The Minnesota Timberwolves were turned down on an offer of Brandon Roy and a first-round pick to Denver for center Timofey Mozgov, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Timberwolves GM David Kahn has been interested in negotiating a buyout with Roy, presumably as a way to show owner Glen Taylor he can get some money back on a failed free-agent signing.

:biglaugh:

I'm gonna hold off on laughing at Kahn until the dealine passes. Rumors that they and Utah are working on a Derrick Williams for Paul Milsap trade. If that gets done, kudos to him

yeah, anytime you can turn last years #2 pick into an expiring contract, you simply have to do it

But Derrick Williams sucks. And they'd have the inside track on re-signing Millsap. And if they do that it opens up all sorts of trade possibilities for them, as they could likely use Love to acquire a handful of assets.

Kahn is trying anything to save his job. Having the inside track on resigning Milsap is probably a better bet than Williams blossoming in Minnesota.

renting a player when you are out of the playoffs is brilliant, i forgot

Maybe they'll take Nolan Smith for their pick and Brandon so he can retire in Portland? That way, instead of retiring the number of a player who retired somewhere else, we can name a handicapped access ramp after a retired Trailblazer...

Typically I agree. But when all it costs is a player you don't want on your team anyway, then what's the big deal? Again - it gives them better options this summer: either sign Millsap or S&T Millsap. Even if neither of those happen you're not out anything useful. It's like trading Nolan Smith for, I dunno, Reddick, and then letting Reddick walk. No gain, but no loss either.

Cannot trade Brandon back to us till the contract we amnestied is complete.

I think Rebound kept the meniscus and we could hang it next to all of the retired numbers though.

Trade. Gives you the flexibility to use your most valuable asset to acquire other assets.

Milsap will not sign with Minny. That franchise is the worst possible destination for any player.

Also, Love is already disgruntled; which plays into my "Getting value from a team with a disgruntled all-star"

I agree that it's highly doubtful. But they still have the ability to pay him more than any other team, and the opportunity to do a S&T. That's certainly worth giving up Derrick Williams for.
And yeah - putting him at SF with Love/Pek would be fun.
But I think MIN knows they're not going to get Love to re-sign with them and so they're preparing themselves to trade him.

What if we make an offer for Love, using Batum (who they wanted to get in the first place) and Hickson; then use Aldridge to NY for Chandler and a pick?

Lillard, Matthews, Scrub, Love, Chandler looks a little tempting.

Minny gave Roy a chance, but it didn't work out. Now they are trying to trade his contract as salary cap relief and if it doesn't work there will probably be a buyout of his contract or Roy retires after the trade deadline.

I am all for trading LMA if we get back some good pieces but it would take me more then just Chandler (who is getting up there in age) to pull the trigger. A 1st from NY doesn't appeal to me much as they won't be in the lottery for some time.

Roy's contract is not guaranteed for next year so it is actually fairly attractive to a team who wants to immediately cut him.

I know you're trying to bait me with a Batum trade scenario.
I don't like it. I like Nic better than Love and I like LMA better than Chandler. LMA for Chandler is downright terrible - NYK's pick will be crap. I don't like Love as much as you think I do, and certainly not at the expense of Nic. Nic is a more complete player. I like complete players. And of everyone you mentioned Nic is the ONLY complete player.

Where'd you read that?

• Chad Ford, ESPN.com: “I’ve heard rumblings that if Howard told Laker officials this summer that the only way he’d stay in LA is if Kobe leaves, the Lakers could end up choosing Howard over Kobe. It’s an unlikely scenario, but one worth watching.”

This is bullshit because Kobe has a "no-trade clause" on his contract. Even if the Lakers decided to go with howard over Kobe; they couldn't deal him. Maybe a buy-out; but that's an expensive buy out.

It's been reported on twitter by a lot of the NBA people

• Chris Broussard, ESPN.com: “One of the teams Utah has talked to about Paul Millsap is Minnesota. The name of the very available Derrick Williams came up.”

Not even the Lakers could afford that buyout. His contract is 30 MIL per year for the next 2.5 years isn't it?

Howard is gone. Lakers should get something for him now or during the summer.

I really don't get it?

Howard for Lopez makes so much sense for both teams. Can't do it straight up, but it makes sense

I agree. I think even trading him to NY for Chandler would be a good move, IMO. I bet they could get Chandler and a few other players too.

I'll give Kahn full marks for knowing it's time to pull the plug on a blown pick. If he can somehow flip that blown pick into a really good player like Millsap then good for him. The only cardinal sin I can think of in personnel is holding onto a guy for years out of stubborness or pride (see: Colangelo, Bryan and Bargnani, Andrea)

I just think it's hilarious that he thinks he can trade Roy. It's not going to happen.
