Kakko signed

Development is up to the individual, last year the Rangers coaching/management provided all top prospects with the opportunity to succeed, most have spent little or no time in the AHL. The Tkachuk brothers have a father with a successful NHL career who was able to mentally prepare them for NHL level hockey, that's why they are strong players not flukes. Our prospects were dominant young players in their own right who are now facing a competitive challenge for perhaps the first time in their lives, something that definitely shakes your confidence. Laf overcame it postseason rolling around on the ice mixing things up physically, Kakko not so much.

are you really bragging about a 31yo who was drafted almost 15 years ago? Lol

It actually goes to show how incompetent we are at developing forwards in this organization.

I'm just starting to add them to ignore 31. I can't take another year with dumbasses in our fan base who can't grasp the concept that when you take players really high in the draft unless they are just lazy and don't care, you have to make developing them your first priority.

Congrats on being drumpy's best friend, 31!
Why anyone would remain a fan of an organization that operates in a way that is counter to their desires and then takes his frustrations out on the other fans of the same organization? Puzzling.

What's funny is it's Drury and GG's first year, they have one of the best first seasons in franchise history after finally adding grit to protect marquis players and now the same guys who said they would not even sniff a playoff spot last year have changed the argument to who cares about the postseason, these poor kids are being mishandled - Brilliant!! Forget that CK, Panarin (who's not going anywhere) and Trouba had their best seasons due to those precious extra minutes stolen from the aforementioned downtrodden lads bursting with the ability to score but hampered by the incompetent old school behind the times coach. This has the makings of a Hallmark Channel miniseries or a updated remake of the Rob Lowe classic "Youngblood".

I don't hide the fact that I was one of those 'Rangers won't make the playoffs' types last year because I fully expected them to stick with Laf and Kakko on the top two lines sink or swim. But Gallant and seemingly Drury went the other way and decided they were in win-now mode. With slower development from those two maybe it will allow the Rangers to keep both of them on more reasonable bridge deals while those big priced vets are still performing at near peak levels for another couple seasons giving the Rangers a little more time to contend for a Cup without losing their high-draft capital players to teams that have more cap space.

Hurts my feelings to be on an ignore list...oh wait.. i dont give a shit..someone has a different opinion and it's cry baby season.
Hey great for Austin Mathews, a centerman, and the Toronto Maple Leafs organization for the wonderful season of developing a terrific centerman. I'm sure all Maple Leaf fans are going that's terrific developing an outstanding player to reach his full potential. It was great seeing him lift the...wait..nevermind..maybe next season
Him and Mitch Marner have turned a couple of top end picks into domination...yet the team still hasn't won anything..so congrats on developing two high end draft picks.

Unlike some...inhave patience not to throw 21 year Olds into the deep end of the pool and expect them not only to swim but become instant leaders. Make them earn the minutes and learn it's not just about scoring goals on the power play its about being a complete player. It's also showing the other players that jobs aren't just given to people.
Anyone think that maybe Kreider had his best season this year because the rangers had drafted Kakko and Lafreniere? Maybe it drove him to push himself knowing his replacement was drafted?

But when Miller first came on the team he was instantly given 20+ minutes a game. Or Fox whose first year got almost 19 minutes a game and plenty of PP time and starting with his second year he's played close to 24 minutes a game on average. Don't remember you saying we were taking it too fast with them and they needed to be protected and earn their time.

Aren't Miller and Fox defensemen? Don't defensemen, by nature of there only being 3 pairs to rotate, generally play more minutes per game than forwards?
Couldn't you also argue that based off their performance on the ice, those two earned and deserved the ice-time?

you do realize there is a difference between the ice time between a defensemen and a winger right.

not to mention that when Fox and Miller came to the team, the rangers didnt have All Star caliber players ahead of them.

Of course there is, but the point is they were given the opportunity right away to be key members of the team with top minutes. The team could have easily brought them along slowly, give them 13-15 minutes a game (like when Hajek played and got 13 minutes a game, or Lundkvist who got about 14 minutes) and not see PP or PK time. That did not happen, instead Miller and Fox were immediately playing top minutes at their positions and we are better off now because of it.

We handled Fox and Miller exactly as we should have but for some reason don't do the same at forward which is evident to everyone when you have to bring up Kreider who was drafted almost 15 years.

what all star defensemen did the rangers have on the blueline that would have supressed Fox and Miller from getting ice time....

Btw..by your logic why arent people bitching that Brenden Schnieder didnt get more icetime?

Exactly 31. The kid line was our best line at even strength many playoff nights. Just think how much better they would have been with more icetime, more PP time and more confidence. Not to mention how giving vets less PP time would have forced them to do more at even strength than rely on the PP for most of their points. The Rangers have been totally incompetent developing Lafreniere and Kakko. It can't be disputed. With developing goalies and defenseman the organization is elite. With forwards they are the bottom of the barrel.

This isnt the minor leagues..the concern isnt to develop kids its TO WIN GAMES. Period.
IF the power play was ranked in the bottom third then yeah...throw out Laf and Kakko..but .....it wasnt...it was one of the best dam pp's in the league...and gee whiz...the season was one of their best ever yet all we hear about is how fucking dumb the rangers were for not putting Laf and Kakko on the PP..smh

If all Kappo needed was a few more minutes of ice time per game to become a superstar 10 teams would have made him a $4 mil offer the Rangers wouldn't have matched. One season in with Drury/GG ridiculous success and now it's actually not about winning, it's about development.

I think this season we see both laf and kakko (with good health) take big steps forward and 1 of them gets added to the first PP. Bigger question is if the rumors about panerin being moved come to pass.

What rumors are those? I haven't heard any but I also haven't been paying attention much since the season was over.

Those rumors are bs, Panarin gave an interview and clearly stated he's not going anywhere and referenced his NTC. He's coming off a career year so I'm happy to have him back, some would have him moved to get more time for the kids, a perpetual rebuild. I agree with you Mel, the only thing holding them back is if they come into camp poorly conditioned like last year. I'm very interested in seeing Kakko, my hopes are that he comes in with a chip on his shoulder, getting benched in the playoffs and getting nothing in the way of offers should be a huge wakeup call. Laf figured things out postseason, I'm not worried about him.

I would consider moving Panarin, not because of the kids but because his contract is pretty bad and still has 4 season to go.

However, i would have him move to RW so we could have Lafreniere-Zib-Panarin make the first line.
