Keep Felton

Maybe the offers he gets will be low. If his cost is flexible, I can take him being here next season, maybe even as a substitute.

Can you imagine what troubles this guy would be causing in the locker room if he had to play 2nd string?

Gotta love it when Quick just lays into Felton like he has been lately. It's been awesome.

The best part is that he was a primary reason why we sucked bad enough to blow it up, and now he's playing well enough to fuck up our tanking.... this guy is a real prize.

We're not tanking. How can he fuck it up? The idea that we're tanking is something made up in your head. The players and coaching staff are all trying to win.

Heh.... we traded two of our best players for draft picks and young bench players. That's not tanking? Nobody said the team is tanking... management is tanking.

Blazers are 3 games out of the 8th seed.

If they do make the playoffs, anything can happen, though expectations won't be high.

If they do make the playoffs, Felton may well be a big part of it and his value will go higher.

If they do make the playoffs, the Blazers' #1 draft pick will be just out of the lotto. This doesn't preclude packaging the pick to move up in the draft - that would be how I'd be thinking right now.

Those were smart business moves and both players were playing wildly inconsistent and weren't helping us win, so it was best to get something while we could. Management isn't tanking. There are moves they could make (shut down Aldridge, tell Caleb to evaluate instead of competing) but that's not what they're doing. Tanking is merely in you and your friends Nik and MM's minds. We're playing some of our best ball of the season right now. 3-2 under Canales including wins over Chicago and Memphis. We finally closed a close game tonight, something we hadn't done all year. There is no tanking going on. You're merely wishing we would.

Exactly. You nailed it right on the head. And by the way, we're 3 games out of the 7th seed too.

You're damn right I wish we were tanking, and if the Blazers don't wish it too then they are more inept than I thought.

Do you really want to make it into the 8th spot to get smashed by the Thunder? Or worse yet, just barely miss the 8th spot and get the worst possible draft position for a lottery team?

No, I don't want to get smashed by the Thunder. I want to BEAT the Thunder. Just like the Grizzlies did to the Spurs last year.

As for lottery position, if we don't make the playoffs, you can't predict how the ping pong balls will fall. Maybe we'll win with the very last spot. I remember a late season game in 2007 when some people wanted us to lose to Seattle for better draft position. We won the game and people were pissed but we ended up getting the number one pick as a result. We misused that pick but we got it just the same.

Absolutely, resign him next year. His value is low, and his potential his high now that Nate is gone.

Watch the post game interview from Tonight with MH and you just might agree.

You must be high on something.

That wasn't Nate missing wide open 3 pointers repeatedly.

That wasn't Nate having the ball taken from him in the 4th quarter of close games.

That wasn't Nate making idiotic passes in the 4th quarter of close games.

That wasn't Nate losing game after game with horrible play.

What was Nate's problem was letting Failton start and play as many minutes as he did.

Anyone who thinks Failton is a starting caliber NBA PG has serious issues.

And I mean really serious issues.

This deserves it's own thread. Quick is spot on. The Blazers are fucking morons.

absolutely, I go from starting to think mgmt may be getting their shit together with the Wallace amd Camby trades and then they talk and think like this about the playoffs - un fukkin real.

To the OP, you are high. Felton is not a keeper. Carry on here.

Then management needs to tank harder.

TankHard. That would be a good screen name. :)

Wanting something and having the means to get it done aren't the same thing. This team might be able to steal a game, but in a seven game series the Thunder are just way more talented -- A series with the Thunder would be like (in the words of Sean Connery) bringing a knife to a gunfight.

If you want to beat the Thunder then think about next year or the year after when we have enough reinforcements to maybe get the job done. Tanking is like a tactical retreat at this point, losing the battle so you have a chance to win the war later.

Felton has bitched wherever he's been (except maybe NY). He was unhappy sharing minutes with Augustin in Charlotte. He was unhappy playing behind Lawson in Denver. They say he's been causing a ruckus here. And his play has been terrible, other than 6-8 games (most of which have come after we're pretty much out of contention). Cut our losses and move on, please.

I sure hope he's not here next season. I'm all for playing him to win and setting a precedent to other nba free agents, that we take care of our players. But no way I want him here next season. No way!

Yeah.... because the Spurs and the Thunder are so much alike. Maybe if you were talking about the Spurs ten years ago, but Tim Duncan is not on KD's level anymore.

So we want free agents to come to Portland because we showed them that no matter how horrifically they suck once they get here, we'll still let them start and play big minutes? No. Felton came into camp fat and out of shape. He's played like shit's shit plays when it plays like shit. Everyone knows that. If he is benched, it's because he's earned it. Please don't over think this. Whether Felton plays or doesn't play is not going to affect any free agent's decision to come to Portland. The very idea is silly. In any sane world, Crawford has also played himself out of playing time. That's just the way it is.

Unforunately, you forget that many of these players think everything should just be handed to them. Case in point: Felton. As they say, the inmates are running the asylum, at least to an extent. Players manipulate trades and hold their organization's hostage. People, let's not act like this is some big surprise.

The crazy thing is that the Blazers hold all of the cards right now re: Felton, yet they're letting him do pretty much what he wants now, and he's using it to showcase himself for free agency. None of this helps the team's future. The Blazers barely beat a terrible Golden State team and score 90 points in doing so, and suddenly everybody is excited about the team?

Felton took 17 shots last night, Batum 16, and LMA 12. Put in a real PG and let LMA and Batum become comfortable carrying the offensive load.

Absolutely. If we landed an All-Star PG our offensive woes would be gone. We do that and all we need is a solid back-up:

Felton > Flynn > Smith

Right now yes.

Potentially

Flynn > Smith > Felton

And that's what we should be shooting for.

Just two weeks ago, Felton was universally considered as the worst starting PG in the NBA. What changed all of a sudden?

He's not > anybody and is still the 46th ranked PG in PER (up from 48th last week- yay).

In that case, how much are you potentially willing to bet on that?

A slightly worse record and no playoff appearance either way?

If the idea is to keep Felton, then I'm done with this team until Paul Allen sells it.

Does it matter? Doesn't look like we're going to get the opportunity to find out. Let the kids fucking play, DAMN!

Ray hasn't helped us out, let's stop helping him out by letting him play and earn another contract!

If only the Blazers would have had the balls to finish what they started at the trade deadline and waived this joker. Keeping this guy around is like taking half a round of antibiotics instead of finishing the bottle --the infection gets supressed for a little while then comes back twice as strong and you still end up having to take the damn pills for two weeks.
