well if this season wa$nt bad enough... blazer fans have now been told get ready to be lower theN twolves. fuck you paul allen.

• With the Trail Blazers' obvious struggles and the health challenges (that's putting it mildly) of Greg Oden and Brandon Roy, two people with knowledge of the team's strategy told CBSSports.com that Portland management is contemplating trading older players and going young. The obvious targets for such a purge would be Marcus Camby (36), Andre Miller (34), and Joel Przybilla (31). Roy isn’t old, but his knees are -- though one of the sources said Portland would find no takers for the five years and $82.3 million remaining on Roy's contract, given the state of his meniscus-less knees. Przybilla ($7.4 million expiring contract) and Miller (whose $7.8 million salary in 2011-12 is fully non-guaranteed) are eminently moveable. Another candidate to be dealt, though not because of age or health, is Rudy Fernandez, who has wanted out of Portland for some time. Sources caution that the Blazers have engaged in only internal conversations about this strategy, and it is contingent upon the team (10-11) continuing to struggle. But the writing certainly is on the wall for major changes in Portland.

oh good, we can try sean marks at center for the next 61 games. poor camby. so basically if we come out of this trip 10-16.... its over.

I can live with this.

For now on though, when were in the lottery, lets not draft players with a history of injuries.

people who want rebuild are fucking clueless. take a look at twolves, kings, gs, pistons, raptors, etc.... it takes 5 years to even get decent unless you get real lucky. after drafting babbit, bayless... i am pretty sure we will get it wrong. you retool... not rebuild.

As sad as saying this makes me feel, I could live with this as well. I don't see us being any better than a 7th or 8th seed, if that.

Retool with what? who?

Exactly. I'd rather be a high lottery team than an 8th seed anyday.

I could see them trading Andre, and maybe LaMarcus and Joel, but I don't know if they'd trade Marcus. He's almost the iron man of our 5 spot! Ha.

Although it seems that right now, the team has one or two semi-keepers. Batum and Matthews, and right now neither one is a sure fire keeper.

Whoda thunk it.

What's the difference? If we were to retool, which players would you recommend trading to make us better?

You are aware that in a trade we get players back, right?

um... expiring contracts???? which joel and miller are. we are gonna get more garbage picks?

and trade babbit or williams or even oden if it meant getting a good player. nobody is trading for aldridge or roy. therefore for 4 years we will get bad lotto picks and miss playoffs. great.

I think people overrate expiring contracts. What have expiring contracts ever got us?

I look around the league and the Hornets just traded Peja's nice, juicy expiring contract for a steaming pile of Jarrett Jack. Yippedy doo da, yippa dee day!

Well, Raef LaFrentz got the Trail Blazers...um...

Grizzlies wanted Marc Gasol and the future picks in that deal. The expirings were hardly the selling point on that deal.

Didn't read enough about the Jefferson situation to remember one way or the other how that went down.

Mavs brought Tyson Chandler over from the Bobcats for Matt Caroll, Eric Dampier and Eduardo Najera? All he’s doing is averaging 12.5 pts, 12.5 reb, 1.8 blk and shooting 65.8% from the field?

The point is, we need Cho to and braintrust to put their heads together and bring over a deep value/underestimated player who can provide us depth and more.

The astute GM can pull this off. Can Richard Cho?

Chandler throughout his career has been a product of a good PG. Bottomline.

Considering Przy and Miller aren't under contract(Miller's option won't be picked up) for next year and next year is the last year Camby is under contract this seems more like a retool than a rebuild. Przy probably can't be a starter anymore, Miller has never been a great fit and Camby is 36 and will only decline. Can't ride Miller and Camby forever. It's one reason why trading Miller for Mo Williams would be a good move because Miller isn't in the long term plans and Mo is only turning 28 in a few days.

keep telling yourself that mc-cluless

you swore i was wrong all october... well get ready for me to prove your ass wrong again.

Wow. I wouldn't. Neither would ownership of any team, I'd venture to guess.

Two 8 seeds have ever got out of the 1st round.

Unless your grooming young talent, which Portland is not (for the most part), I'd rather be a bottom half of the lottery team rather than hovering around .500 and getting an 8 seed.

I think most front office types would agree with me.

thank you bgrant fan.... again posters are clueless if they think having 2 extra home playoff games (at worse) is something any owner would pass on. making the playoffs regardless what seed is HUGE for a franchise. that is why i cannot buy that they are rebuilding. they have no choice but to retool like the mavs have done for about 5 years.

however you need a good gm and we dont have one.

making playoffs... means $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

reading the responses in this thread has made me want to leave these boards forever

Boy, this makes every single move by Larry Miller look retarded.

On the day he was hired we were a player or 2 from being an honest contender for the title.

Now we don't even have 2 guys worth building around, and nobody that anyone wants to trade for.

He set the NBA record for quickest total devaluing of a team.

Paul Allen is a moron who hires morons and until someone else owns this team don't expect him to ever get it right.

Typical pampered nerd.

Not everyone can make rebuilding look as easy as KP made it look. Rebuilding a team is an ugly process. KP did it with flawless execution.

I don't have faith in Cho to do it.

Absolutely. We are poised for years of success with the roster he constructed.

Two years after being named GM he had the Blazers as a 4th seed in the playoffs. That's pretty much success right there.

If you want argue he didn't get the team into elite status that's one thing. You can't argue he didn't rebuild the team and turn it around. Two straight trips the playoffs sounds like successful rebuilding to me and the Blazers are certainly good enough to make it to the playoffs for a 3rd straight year.

Sac/Min/etc would kill for that.

Only if they work for the Clippers.

All other owners are in it to win it.
