On Inside the NBA, Ernie said "Greg Oden has a CAREER night!" and Kenny said "He had 11?"

Ouch.

I don't think that's what he meant. It was a slight since Oden has had so many 2, 3, 5 point games that a career high for Oden would probably be 11 points. It was a sign of what non-Blazer fans think of Oden, which is not much.

Maybe, but usually when someone refers to a career game...mean an overall performance...meaning the statline as a whole...but I can see your logic as well:cheers:

He was wrong, it's his 12th double double which leads the team in double doubles as a rookie.

I think Eric's interpretation of the "11" comment is the right one. However, it doesn't really matter what Kenny Smith thinks. What matters is that Oden finally had a big game, maybe even a break-out game, and it should do wonders for his confidence.

Go, Greg! You're on your way, and tonight was a big step forward.

haha I actually laughed when I read that. That's very quick by Kenny.

I took it as Kenny pointing out that Greg's career is just starting out. Saying he had a career game when he has only played a few games is kind of ridiculous. (However not as ridiculous as some of the idiotic "bust" statements)

This thread is a good example of how easily misinterpreted humor can be...

I hate to pull the "you people" card, but God damn, why do (some of) you people give a rat's ass what anybody says about the Blazers... or Greg Oden, for that matter!? I mean, seriously, who gives a shit what Kenny Smith and his mediocre-career-havin'-ass says about Portland. This is a guy that rode the coat tails of Olajuwon and Drexler to a couple of championship rings, only because Jordan decided to take a couple of years off. And he thinks that just because Charles Barkley's taking a drunken leave of absence that he needs to try to pick up the slack in the comedy-relief aspect of the show? It's a moronic job, but somebody's gotta do it.

Who cares what members of the media and/or fans of other teams say about the Blazers? Fuck 'em--fuck 'em all! Just enjoy watching our young team grow and learn to play with each other... and everything else will take care of itself. I swear, just when I think we have some pretty sharp individuals around this joint, the median IQ seems to drop below 0, which, of course, isn't an easy feat.

Something tells me Eric needs a new hobby to occupy his down-time or that he needs some new "meds." Either way, these types of threads just kill the enjoyment of what used to be a fun place to visit.

Would you have said that if it was a compliment to Oden? If you don't like reading these then dont open them. The thread title was Kenny Smith on Oden... obviously that means the thread is about something Smith said. So why even open it? This place is to talk about Blazers, and Eric wanted to mention what someone said about the Blazers. Nothing wrong with that.

Would you have said that if it was a compliment to Oden?

Yeah, probably. You know why!? 'Cause I couldn't possibly care any less what Kenny Smith says about Greg Oden, the Blazers, or the city of Portland. I've been watching sports long enough to know what I see--I don't need someone else's $.02 to influence my opinion on any player, team, or city. Everyone has an opinion, but, as they say, they're like assholes: everyone has one and they ALL stink.

If you don't like reading these then dont open them.

I'll open up any thread I want, thank you very much... but thanks for the concern.

O RLY!? Is that what it was? Thanks, dude... I can't read!!! I don'y know where I'd be without you!

So why even open it?

Maybe 'cause I don't want to miss the one that actually ends up containing a suicide (or, shall we say, "An Ode to Kenny Smith) within it!?

Wow, I was just asking? You bitch about something that you have control over. I was just wondering. Don't have to be a immature about it. Grow up.

I thought it was funny too. Greg has had some poor games, and the national media sees these more than the games he plays well in.

I laughed out loud when he said that.

I thought it was very funny. And if I didn't follow the Blazers at all I probably would have thought 11 was true.

"11" what? I'm not following. If he meant 11 points, that is a lame, ignorant, and seemingly meanspirited "joke." But, whatever, it's an entertainment show. They get paid to be asses; good for them.

2nd 20/10 game of his young career/rookie season and 12th double double of his young career/rookie season leading the Blazers and the Rookies. GO GREGORY!

I think that's funny. Humor is often intentionally steeped in ignorant statements that overstate the truth.

And the truth is that Oden has not been impressive on many levels this year.

I have no problem with the joke. I am not at all worried about Oden.

If I were an Iverson fan, I'd be pissed off at Webber's comments... did you guys see/hear them? About Iverson being the most difficult to get the ball from in Webber's career? WAY too honest. Poor Webber got away with that on NBATV, but on TNT he's going to catch hell for being honest.

I liked how they threw Webber under the bus when David Alridge told Iverson that Webber said he should be coming off the bench. You could see Iverson didn't like that. Makes an entertaining show.

Yea that is actually why I like watching NBATonight on NBATV with Cweb, Ahmad Rashad, and GP. First of all, they are laughing most of the time about something. Secondly, they throw each other under the bus all the time, especially when comments are made to players in order to "brown nose" them. Lastly, GP and Cweb will call it like it is. They have no problem talking about guys who are not producing and calling them out.

Indeed... I don't like a commentator being overly negative, but NBA players DO mess up, and they DO have flaws, and it's frustrating to see those negative opinions never given because they are friends with the players.

Barkley once did color commentary on a game on TNT and he was awesome. I wish he would do more.
