<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Atlanta Hawks on Thursday night extended a six-year maximum contract offer to restricted free agent Kenyon Martin, ESPN.com has learned.

Martin has not yet told the Hawks he'll sign their offer sheet on July 14, which gives the Denver Nuggets a small window to make a similar offer to Martin.

League sources told ESPN.com that the Nuggets plan to decide by Friday or Saturday whether to extend a rich offer sheet to Martin or pass on the All-Star forward and keep their name in the Kobe Bryant sweepstakes.

At this stage I would be very worried If I was a Nets fan. He may of stated he doesn't want to play for a loser but money talks and can quicky change the mind of players in this league.

I would expect Denver to make him an offer close to this so he will likely end up there.

Wow thats a lot of money.. kind of hard too pass that deal.

I think the Nuggets will give him a real nice offer and he will sign their sheet, I dont expect him to be a Net next year.

Nets should let him take that. Look at signing Stromile to, I dunno, 6 million per? I firmly believe Stromile will give you more than 6/13ths of KMart's output (i.e. 6mil vs max deal), if not close to equal with JKidd feeding him the ball.

I still think Kenyon could end up in a Cavs jersey, though

</div>how, how can that happen?

Not sure at all but I didnt think we could let Boozer get away so anything can happen.

This is not good hope the nets can match cause they have to if they want him to stay

Either sign-and-trade with the Nets, Z for KMart... or send Z to Atlanta with a future-first for a second-rounder, then sign KMart to the max.

well with the reports of kiki telling kmart to stay in nj if he is happy, i wouldn't be suprised if denver didn't offer him anything unless they had a strong feeling that new jersey wouldn't match. i rather kmart go to denver where they have a bright future than atlanta where they are not close to anything.

we all know we have match and give kmart more money than any team in the league and ratner told rod/ed to keep kmart with whatever it takes, except trading kidd. he said that in the papers and if he goes back on his word, his rep is going to take a shot. he was already pissed that he was being called a 'penny-pincher' so now it's his time to prove he is not a penny-pincher and a man of his word. i doubt a business man would want to be seen as a liar in the public. i still have confidence that kmart will come back.

After the events that occurred re: Carlos Boozer, I don't think anyone will be willing to trust anyone's word for the remainder of the off-season, whether for better or worse.

Lose a 2nd rounder and Z for KMart? I dont see that happening at all.

Wow.., now we have to wait and see what the Nuggets are going to do..and what the Nets do about all this

It's quite do-able. Cleveland get KMart not to sign w/ Atlanta or Denver, therefore forcing Atlanta's hand. Atlanta can absorb Z's contract, which they'll have to do to meet the salary cap minimum. Cleveland can tag how ever many future-firsts they want to, because they are irrelevant at this point, they just want to please LBJ. If Atlanta's out of the KMart market, I don't see any reason not to rent Z for a year and get two, maybe more, first-rounders out of it.

Once Atlanta is out of the picture, Cleveland offer KMart the max, which NJ surely do not match.

Hehe... I just thought. NJ would probably decide to match, just to totally screw over Cleveland (no Boozer, no Ilgauskas, no KMart). Maybe better to organize the S&T

Wow, the Nets could be in trouble. I realize Kenyon wants to play for a winning team, but, damn, that much money could be hard to say no to. Plus, who knows, the Hawks could surprise everyone like the Heat and Nuggets did last year. Granted I don't think that's at all likely, I'm just saying. Strange things happen.

No way, the Nets let K-Mart walk without matching any offers at this time especially since alll the decent big-bodies on the fA market are already pretty much locked up. And they wont be able to make a trade to aquire a replacement because their most trade- able asset just walked which means that the Nets are going to have to match the offers now or be stuck without any type of decent post player.

They should not match any offer over 65 Million. I don't even think they should match any offer he gets because no matter how much he gets, it's going to be a lot, and then your going to lose RJ next offseason. Personally I would rather have RJ than K-Mart if I'm the Nets.

if kenyon accepts this offer we are witnessing the disintegration of the nets before our eyes. jefferson's contract expires and i'm sure he will want max. money as well so its look u NETS fans are stuck with a highly skilled, old by nba standards point guard. they should have traded him to the spurs for parker and some other young studs when they had the chance last offseason i thought the billionaire real estate developer and a rap mogul could turn around your fortunes but guess not.

From what I have heard: The Hawks offering KMart the 60 million is rubbish. His agents could be leaking this false info out to force New Jersey's hand.

nice for everyone to bash on kidd now when most people agreed to keep him when he didnt hurt his knee. lot of flip-floppers out there. next year, we will have money to resign rj, and yes we could max him out too. that would be three max players. of course thats a lot of money for only three players, but these are not just any three players. they are key players to turning this franchise upside down and not making us a joke in the nba anymore. if we had to max out all three, i could understand it but it would also make us have to surround them with a cheap supporting cast and possibly rookies (since most are cheep besides lottery picks).

jayz wont care about the nets till they are in brooklyn. it is sad he is that selfish. i was never a fan of his,but im not a hater either. i think him being apart of the nets is more of a publicity move than anything else. he can get his 40/40 name out there along with his clothing line. once in brooklyn,im sure the owners will spend more money and jayz will try to turn the nets into the lakers of the east. meaning that the brooklyn arena or whatever the name will be called with be a 'hotspot' in ny. im sure he will have his clothing line in the arena somewhere. sure he can show up at the nets/knicks game in the playoffs, but that doesnt mean he cares for the team. he wants to give something to brooklyn so he hopes on ratner to get his name out more. thats my PO.

Thats a good point banks3 cause if they do decide to keep martin what will jefferson ask for next season and but we do have players freeing up space. but i dont think it will be enough. Hopefully it will cause RJ is the man.

I heard it was a 6 year 85 Million dollar offer.

has nj matched yet? if not when do they plan to match the max?

Zo contract & a few other big salaries come off the books next year, so we should have the money to give RJ, even if we keep Martin this year It will just limit the moves that we can make around the big 3. I could have sworn I read somewhere that RJ said he was willing to take a reasonable contract to remain a Net but dont quote me on that.

I wont qoute you on that Hen. Hopefully he won't let greed get to him like other people and ask for a max contract. But i think he wont ask for a lot. Like he said he would rather win an olympic gold than nba champioship so i have respect for him. And by that it seems hes one of the rare people that plays for the love of the game.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting KingCarmelo:</div><div class="quote_post">has nj matched yet? if not when do they plan to match the max?</div>
kenyon did not sign the offer sheet for atlanta so the nets don't have to match anything yet. FA's can start to sign contract on July 14th i believe. if kmart does sign an offer sheet from atlanta or if denver makes one, then i think the nets have two weeks to match that offer. so if/when denver offers kmart an offer sheet (unless they are holding out to keep the money for kobe) then a few days after i expect us to match any offer made. if denver doesn't offer kmart something towards a max, i don't even think he would sign thier offer sheet unless if he and dyke feel that the nets wouldnt give him max w/o signing an offer sheet. so i would that that around july 14th-20th kmart will be signed somewhere. hopefully it is here, but if not then we need something back. we can't let him walk like nash did out of dallas. it will set us back.

RJ has been with the Nets for 4 years after next season. We easily own his Bird Rights, meaning we can sign him for whatever we want no matter how little cap space we'll have, same reason why we can sign Kmart for whatever we wants. It'll put us over the cap. However, I doubt RJ will command a max contract. Looking at all the other comparable swingmen out there, Corey Maggette, Rip Hamilton, Lamar Odom last year Ginobili this season, all didn't get max contracts. Only swingman that's going to get is Kobe Bryant. So obviously there is a big difference. I believe RJ will get around the 65-70 mil area. What he deserves.

If it's a max contract, I rather see the Nets not match and see Martin in Atlanta. I'll wish him the best but he'll see how hard it is to suceed without Kidd.
