Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant is your NBA Finals MVP for the second time. For many, Durant is the second-best player in the NBA, right behind Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James.

And while James played with one of the worst rosters to ever make an NBA Finals appearance this season, no doubt Durant did so while playing with one of the best.

After the conclusion of the Finals, some chatter has begun about who the top player in the NBA will be heading in to next season, clearly with some folks believing that Durant has taken over The King’s throne.

Meanwhile, Durant gave comments to Yahoo! Sports saying that he believed it was actually harder to be seen as the best player on the planet when playing with multiple all-stars.

Via Yahoo! Sports:

“I feel like it’s easy to be the best player when you don’t have good players around you. I feel like it’s harder to stand out when you have great players around you,” Durant told Yahoo Sports. “I pride myself on standing out wherever I am. I pride myself on working hard wherever I go. And I feel like these guys embraced me and I feel like I’m a Warrior.”

Is this self-promotion or simply a small dig at LeBron? Is it both? It’s hard to say, but you can sort of see Durant’s point. All throughout the playoffs, it was apparent that Durant could get just about any shot he wanted at any time. Although the Warriors sometimes relied on Durant to a fault during the playoffs, there was no doubt that both he and Stephen Curry were the two most important offensive players for the Warriors.

Does playing with better teammates make it harder for you to stick out? That logic makes sense, although I think you would be hard-pressed to tell me LeBron didn’t have one of the best seasons ever, even if he was playing with a rotating gang of bench guys.

Oh and KD it’s easier to win championships when you bail to the team you just go whipped by after being up 3-1 isn’t it. I wish he could just own what he did instead of be a fake tough guy about it. Least LBJ owned up that the decision maybe could’ve been handled better. KD is so fake. Great player, but his act since joining up with GS has just been so annoying.

Durant has never had to carry a team....he played with James Harden and Russel Westbrook...had talent around him...then went to a team stacked with superstars....unlike the guy who willed a lesser team to the finals pretty much by himself

And mid season when GS was mediocre when Curry was out, was busy telling us that Curry was the system, so Curry is really what makes GS go not KD

What a bullshit statement.

Yeah, it's super easy to be the best and have great games when the other team only has to focus on stopping you. It's super hard to have good games when you've got four other players on your team who can score and spread the floor for you. Yeah. That makes perfect sense.

Just when I thought I couldn't dislike that douche more. SMH

Put KD on CLE in place of LBJ and that team doesn't make the Finals.

Not really convinced they even make the playoffs with KD. Yes hes a great scorer, like LeBron, but unlike LeBron, is a shitty passer/playmaker for his teammates. Durant is a great player, but will never reach LeBron's level. Ever.

So funny the if you can’t beat em join em dude that choked is sti trying to convince how tough he is... gah I need to get off this thread this dude annoys me.

Maybe he meant that it's easier to be the best player if the rest of the team sucks ass.

But to be the best player in the league? It's actually much easier if the rest of your team makes the game easier for you.

On equal teams, I'd take LeBron over every single player in the league, on every day of the week and not even flinch.

And the year, he had to play without Westbrook, when the Grizzlies beat OKC, he was HORRIBLE.

Lebron carried the cavs to the finals. Durant couldn't carry the Thunder anywhere. Hence why he joined the Warriors for easy rings. He couldn't earn one himself. Fucking coat tail rider.

Finals? They don't even make the playoffs and if they do, they certainly don't make it out of the first round.
Eh - it's still the East. I think KD is good enough to at least get that team to the POs, and maybe even the 2nd round. No way they beat BOS though, and probably not TOR or PHI.

A shitty passer/playmaker? He did average 5.4 Assists per game this year. While thats far less then LBJ's 9.1, I wouldn't call his playmaking from the forward spot "shitty". That would be like calling James's 0.9 Blocks per game shitty because Durant averaged an outstanding 1.8

I don't get the dislike for James or Durant. Both are all time talents with decent enough temperments for big time jocks.

How do you know it’s easy to be the best Kevin, when you never have been?

Seriously F KD. If him and LA had kids, Tampax stock would skyrocket.

So it's harder to win when you don't have to worry about being the main focus of the opponent's defense\double teams ?
And i thought i knew something about basketball!

At first i hated him because i thought he was trolling, now i laugh at him because i understand how stupid he is.
I listened to all five of his podcasts with Bill Simmons , the guy is just dumb, he's like a 14 year old kid.

Best song ever:

Should be played before every game instead of the national anthem.

Hey, that's insulting to 14-year-olds.

Getting assists is not being a play maker. Look at the guys he’s passing too... not

if him and LMA had kids where do the eggs come from...?

I have resigned to the fact that everyone hates Durant, and its fine. I don't dislike him at all but who cares what I think. I just want to make sure everyone admits if he was in Portland they'd love him and have no problem with everything he says. Thanks byeeee

You do realize how much different a decision to go to Portland would have been compared to going to a 73 win team who he just choked too and had won a championship without him, is?
People “hate” him because he basically said can’t beat em so I’ll join them, and since then has basically been trying to convince us and himself how awesome he is...

Do you know what else is easy?

Coasting to another title win on a 73 win team. Who cares if he won Finals MVP? He barely broke a sweat for the second straight year in the playoffs. His teammates openly talked all year about being bored in the regular season and struggled to find motivation to even try. What other team can sustain its two time MVP to go 1-13 in a playoff game and still come out winning a finals game on the road? It's a pathetic display.

The TV deal, KD, and the Warriors ruined basketball for everyone else in 2016. Ratings are great now, but this is doing more damage than good in the long run in non-Bay Area media markets.

Hate to be a yeah but guy buuuut....

He averaged 3 TO per game. His AST = 1.80

LeBron:

9.1 (career high) to 4.2. His AST = 2.17

Compared to LeBron he is a shitty passer.

And play maker altogether, Lebron finds guys open / good shots more often than KD does. Lebron may be hard for some guys to play with because of how much the ball is in his hands, but he’s a way better player at making plays for his team mates.
