OT Kevin Durant: ‘It’s easy to be the best player when you don’t have good players around you’

You do realize how much different a decision to go to Portland would have been compared to going to a 73 win team who he just choked too and had won a championship without him, is?
People “hate” him because he basically said can’t beat em so I’ll join them, and since then has basically been trying to convince us and himself how awesome he is...

Uh yeah, I know Portland didn't win 73 games any time recently. What I am saying is that if Portland miraculously was in the position of being a great team with a title, and Durant wanted to come here there would not be a PEEP about it from anyone in here.

Apparently there were some AWK-WARD jokes at Durant's expense at the Warriors' parade:

Hate to be a yeah but guy buuuut....

He averaged 3 TO per game. His AST = 1.80

LeBron: 9.1 (career high) to 4.2. His AST = 2.17

Compared to LeBron he is a shitty passer.
yeah but... compared to LeBron pretty much every player is a shitty passer. Compared to Blazer forwards, Durant is worlds better as a passer/playmaker. So are all Blazer forwards incredibly worse then shitty passers or maybe are you & whoeverthefIquoted1st mischaracterizing what a shitty passer is?

Getting assists is not being a play maker. Look at the guys he’s passing too... not
Sweet not joke, only 15 years stale. Hey, wheres the beef?

I'm a Blazer fan living in the Bay Area. Between the gym and friends houses, I'm probably subjected to as much W's ball as anyone here. Without question, you've no idea what you're talking about. KD is a complete stud at most every facet of the game. Like most every one of the long timers here I wanted Oden, but I'm not drinking haterade to drown my woes in the offseason.

KD is obviously really good, but he is not that good of a playmaker for his team mates, sure he gets some flashy assists sometimes but he’s the only really ball stopper on GS which is fine that’s his game. Also the comparison with Lebron in terms of play making isn’t even close Lebron is so much better at getting guys involved than KD is.
The reason why KD and WB didn’t win a championship together is because they both didn’t trust their team mates, didn’t make anyone else better. How many guys had KD made better? All the dudes on GS were good without him, Klay, Steph, Green already champions, who had beat him.
KD is a hall of famer and 1st ballot too but acting like he’s now Steve Nash is ludicrous, he’s mediocre at best with getting guys involved. That’s his job though score, rebound and when doubled pass it, and he’s great at those things.

Good grief with the bipolar takes. I'm contending he's not a "shitty passer" not Steve Nash. I'll know better then to respond next time you derail

I never said he was that.
But tell me who has he made better?
I’d argue the warriors probably win the last two without him.
So you’re right he’s not garbage, but he’s not really good either... He’s just ok at it, but when you’re one of the best scorers ever you don’t really have to pass a lot.

Probably not from in here but his overall popularity would be the same, and on the broader scale other people would say the same.

Oh and your contention was that KD is a stud at almost every facet of the game, I disagree in terms of passing and being an actual playmaker for others, sure Steve Nash was hyperbole, but what do you consider a stud in terms of play making for others?

Lebron carried the cavs to the finals. Durant couldn't carry the Thunder anywhere. Hence why he joined the Warriors for easy rings. He couldn't earn one himself. Fucking coat tail rider.
I used to think the same but now I see him as a pretty good ball player. Not as good as LeBron, no one else comes close to LeBron.

every team he's been on since HS? Honestly, all your takes seem to be hyperbole. Not for me.

STOMP
Sure he makes his team better because he’s great at what he does, but he doesn’t really make individuals on the team better. Which what I mean by play making for others. Steph is the steam engine on GS his presence makes every single player get much different shots then then he’s not on the court. Lots of guys played with Lebron, and were pretty good and went and got a contract some where else, Steve Nash earned a lot of guys contracts too, because a really skilled play maker in terms of passing, gets guys the ball in good positions to score, hits them in there shooting pocket on passes, has great court vision.
Durant has been a better passer since being in GS, but I don’t consider him a great passer, or a “stud” at passing.

Saying KD is a stud when it comes to passing playing for others is hyperbole to me, but whatever. The guy is definitely a 1st ballot hall of famer and he's gotten better at passing, don't know what you think I'm supposed to say. I don't believe KD to be a "Stud" passer / play maker for his team mates. I don't think he's even in the top 20 of any passing categories, assists, assist t/o rating, all the passing advanced stats I've seen don't have him that high.
You're the one who came here asserting I don't know what I'm talking about, but haven't provided any proof that KD is a "stud" play maker / passer. I'd call him alright, but maybe it's just semantics.

Am I the only one around here that doesn't hate KD? I think the dude is only great off the court and a rare talent on the court. I don't get the hate around here. Yeah sure he ran to the Warriors. I mean have you seen how Westbrook is as a team mate. KD deserved a ring after putting up with that dude for so long. Bck to back finals MVP, his finals numbers don't lie. Come on

Easy to put up 35 on great efficiency with two of the best shooters in the NBA on the wings next to you (one of whom is a two time MVP and climbing the all-time charts) and a DPOY center feeding you dimes. He faces like 0 double teams on GS. What other superstar can claim this?

Every other star in this league struggles to counter defenses. Look at how NO completely bottled up Dame while leaving his teammates wide open. Durant didnot encounter any of this on his stroll to two titles.

It was his prerogative to go there, but he and the rules that enabled his free agency that year effectively destroyed the competitive balance of the league. It should also reflect in his all-time ratings. (Asterisks everywhere).

The quote in the thread title is so ridiculous, I can't even every time I see it.

I get what you are saying but I don't get how you can say it's easy just because he has two amazing shooters playing with him. In that case lets start taking away accolades from players who play with other all stars, Lebron James for example one of the greatest of all time. Yeah lets just say it was easy in Miami with Bosh and Wade. Easy in Cleveland with Love and Kyrie. I don't think that argument holds. KD has been scoring like this since college

Sorry, but for your equivalency to hold any water, MIA and CLE would have had to have been 73-win champions BEFORE they got LBJ.

CLE without LBJ is garbage.
MIA without LBJ is a mid-pack PO team in the East.
GSW without Durant is a CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.

It's not that Durant is playing with "two amazing shooters" - it's that he walked onto the MOST WINNINGEST TEAM EVER. GSW didn't win those titles because of Durant, Durant just made it much easier for GSW to win them.

He rubs me wrong, so much so there is a mental asterisk in my head when I think of his accomplishments with the Warriors.

And of course the GSW made it EASY for Durant to win them. I respect that he's a great player, but I don't respect his rings. And I think he's really douchy. I'd honestly rather root for LaMarshmallow.

Right but Bosh and Wade were two all stars. That's the part I was addressing. Love and Irving, also all stars. If we are talking teams, yeah sure this GS squad is one of the greatest of all time and were already a dynasty by the time Durant joined. Dude wanted a ring. I can't hate on that. I mean where else was he gonna go that he could get a ring? certainly wasn't gonna stay with Westbrook and I doubt any westbrook led team can win a title. I mean you guys can hate GS and the players all you want, I don't like the lack of competitiveness either but there is nothing we can do. You gotta respect guys like KD. KD has proven he is one of the best and a future hall of famer. Steph has proven he is the greatest shooter of all time, Klay also one of the best spot up shooters we have ever seen. Draymond is a high energy defensive monster and does so much for that squad with his passing as well.

Where has he proven he is a douche? shit, steph curry acts more like a douche on court than Durant has on or off the court. Durant does a lot for charity and what not. I respect that. I don't see how he acts like a douche.

I'd honestly rather root for LaMarshmallow.
Ooof - I dunno about that. They both equally suck, just in different ways.
I'd rather root for Westbrook though. He may be an idiot, but he doesn't shy away from competition.

I saw a TV commercial with Steph Curry where he says something like everyone thinks he's the nicest player in the league or some such bullshit. The guy walks around with a conceited perma-smirk. He's a great offensive talent, but I don't like him either.

Your anti-affinity for LaMarshmallow is well documented :)

Personally, I don't think he's a winner. At least not as a first option. And he has the reputation of being emotionally fragile. And that's the reason I don't miss him. He needs to accept that he's not a first option, and get over it when other teammates take the spot light.

Once they won their first title he because so smug and entitled. Klay too, though he seemed that way before...it just got worse. Of them all the only one I don't hate is Green. I know, it's weird - he should be the least likable. But he's the most genuine and least-changed of the bunch and the league would be better with more players like him in it. I just wish the league wouldn't let him get away with his ball-kicking and ref-hitting.

No you don't.
I really dislike Westbrook as a player but I respect how hard he plays and his freakish athleticism. I dislike how Harden tries so hard to draw fouls and complains but he is still very very good. It's not difficult
