Kevin Love to Portland?

Works for me, depending on what we'd have to give up.

"Dwyane Wade has canceled some of the free agent meetings he had scheduled this week. Wade had been scheduled to meet with the Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets."

It should also be noted that Wade is still in negotiations with his incumbent team, the Miami Heat.

In the meantime, the Cavaliers need to clear cap space to sign Dwyane Wade and this could be reason enough to reopen the Kevin Love trade proposals. There are other teams that would be better fits for the former All-Star Power forward and Neil Greenberg of The Washington Post pointed to the Portland Trail Blazers.

They're way over the cap (with an assumed max salary for James). Trading Kevin Love doesn't get them the kind of cap space to give Wade a big salary. They'd need to trade Love and have James take a big hit to his salary. Seems unlikely.

So they get rid of Love's contract and make room for DWade?

What exactly are we giving up?

This article lost all credibility when it said the Blazers needed a star and that Love would improve our low-post scoring and transition game. Apparently the writer hasn't seen the Blazers or Love in a few years.

Yes, please! Not sure what he'd cost us in this scenario, but I'm down if the price is right!

If Portland where to renounce enough cap space, Davis for Love works. It improves the Blazers but still leaves them short of contender status. LeBron may have to opt out and then sign for less but they've done that before.

His rebounding and outlet passing could help start fast breaks but agreed, not sure where they get "low post scoring" from Love.

I have serious reservations that this article is credible, but if it's true I guess it'd be worth a flier. It'd be a total reclamation project with huge bust potential, but at this point it's going to take a big gamble to change this team's fortunes in the next couple of years.

We would completely rehabilitate his career. He's really underutilized in CLE.

I don't trust yibada. They got nothing.

Unless we give up CJ, there is little risk.

Anyone thinking Wade to Cleveland for the money he wants is possible should read up on S&T's and teams being over the apron.

Not on board with their credibility either but interesting at least.

Kevin Love was in downtown Portland for the Fourth of July. Some of my friends were talking to him for a while about basketball and took pictures. I guess he was really nice.

My understanding is if they could trade Love for someone who could absorb around half of his contract, and they were to renounce all the rest of their FA's including LeBron, they would have somewhere around $30M to sign Wade and LeBron with cap space money. I believe you can re-sign your own renounced FA if you have the cap space but please correct me if that is incorrect.

Who would we have to renounce? Prolly Crabbe, Leonard, and Mo?

If so, blech...

It was a guy from the Washington Post who was speculating, yibada just quoted him...

Harkless or Leonard would be close to getting it done. They lost a bit of room when they acquired Napier.

I'd be interested in the details. I think I might prefer to get Griffin, depending on his health. It will be interesting to see how trades shake out as FA cools down and we head towards training camp.

We have around 10mil if we waive Alexander and Montero

I think it'd be great to facilitate Love getting out of Cleveland depending on what we can get out of it, but I don't like Love on this team all that much.

I could see a few of our pieces being valuable to them with Wade/Lebron/Kyrie/Thompson. We could offer Cleveland additional relief by taking on Frye's contract I suppose.
  • Aminu - probably perfect. Floor spacing (at the 4 spot) and defense on a reasonable contract.
    • Irving/Wade/Lebron/Aminu/Thompson - not a lot of shooting, but that team could beat up Golden State physically.
  • Plumlee - Cheap, can fill the Thompson role in a b/u position.
The fantasy would be to flip Love for boogie. One of the rumors recently was Boogie for Love, but I think it was more of a Cleveland fantasy. If Sac was open to it at all (with additional picks provided by us or something), that would be great.
  • Boogie/Frye to Portland
  • Aminu/Plumlee to Cleveland (not a ton of value but they would clear net $20M in salary)
  • Love/Vonleh to Sacramento

That would only clear some space as the roster charge isn't much less than their contracts because they are so small.

You can, but are either going to be happy making 15M a year to play in Cleveland?

It would be more likely that they would somehow do a sign and trade, but have many stars that would have to align.

First, Miami would have to agree to do a sign and trade. May not do so with both teams in the Eastern Conference. What would Miami get in return?

It would require a three year contract. Is Cleveland willing to pay that much and would Wade want to play there that long?

Cleveland would have to be at only $4M over the luxury tax after the trade and would be hard capped for the entire season. They are about 2.5m under if they renounce JR Smith. Love makes 21M. I guess it is possible if they do not take salary back they create a trade exception for 21M.

Just went through their numbers Cavs have 42 mil in capholds, mostly distributed between Lebron and JR. Trading just Love still doesn't open room for DWade unless he takes a MASSSIVE pay cut
