I don't know if #3 would be right. Magic Johnson is definitely ahead of him, and so are Oscar Robertson and John Stockton. #4 would make sense though. I'd have to put him and Isaih Thomas on about an even keel at this point or maybe give Kidd a slight edge. Their career APG is actually the same I believe. Maybe Thomas is .0001 ahead of Kidd, but the difference is almost unnoticable. Thomas was a better scorer, but he wasn't as well-rounded as Kidd, and that's reflected by the fact that Kidd's career RPG is almost twice what Thomas' is; his career SPG is higher as well. As far as defense goes, Kidd's got the leg up; he's a 7-time All-Defensive teamer who can still lock down the best point guard's in the game at age 33 with bad knees (just look at what he did to Billups and Nash). Thomas has two rings, but I think that's overrated, especially since Thomas was such an a-hole to all of his teammates and Kidd is such a positive influence to his team, which brings me to another point: Kidd makes all of his teammates better in a way that's not measurable by statistics, which Thomas never really did. I had season tickets for the Bad Boys and always felt his playmaking abilities were really exagerrated. He put up the APG, but he had way more of a shoot-first mentality than Kidd. Then you've got the triple doubles, where Kidd's only trailing Robertson, Magic, and Wilt. Going on down the list, the next point guard ranked ahead of him is Cousy, who probably gets more respect than he deserves (as does Frazer) because when Cousy played the competition level wasn't near what it is today. He gets a lot of attention because he was the original 'great' point guard, but think about how he'd fare in today's game. As basketball has become a more universal game and we've been exposed to more advanced training techniques, the level of play has dramatically improved, to the point where it's just unfair to compair a player like Cousy to a player like Kidd. So in conclusion, I'd have Magic #1, Stockton #2, Robertson #3, Kidd #4, and Thomas #5, with Archibald and Payton not far behind.
