Jason Kidd has started strong out of the gates for the Nets. His averages of 19.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, and 10.5 apg have many thinking about a MVP type of season, again.....(as in another MVP-Caliber season).
But one thing that has gone overlooked in the Nets slow 3-5 start, is the play of Kenyon Martin. Quitely, Martin has been averaging 17/9 out of the gates. Admittedly, its still very early in the season, but he seems to be putting a strong case towards the type of contract extension he was demanding in the offseason.
His 44% from the field leaves a lot to be desired, but no one can question that his play so far has been pretty good.
---------
Other notes: The Celtics, after dealing their second best player, have a better record than the Nets. The Celtics(4-4) have been a suprise, while the Nets(3-5) have also been a suprise, but on the wrong side of the spectrum.
Look for the Nets to build some momentum with a win against the Knicks. Kidd should have a great game, with no Sprewell there to defend him.
Looking ahead:

18 Tue New Orleans 7:30 pm YES NBALP
22 Sat Toronto 1:00 pm YES NBALP
25 Tue @ Seattle 10:00 pm YES --
27 Thu @ L.A. Clippers 10:00 pm -- TNT
28 Fri @ Portland 10:00 pm YES NBALP
30 Sun @ Sacramento
Atlanta should be a relatively easy win. But New Orleans, Toronto, Seattle, Portland, and Sacramento will be a brutal stretch. The 4 game road trip(Seattle, LaC, Portland, and Sacramento) will prove if NJ is a contender to the throne this year.
