Good question. There may not be a clear succession plan. His kids are too young. His only living brother is a boy bender. His uncle is old and retired and his sister who seems to be the inherent successor may not be allowed to be.

I could see North Korea trying to keep things quiet while they figure things out, to keep the people in line, to stop South Korea from invading, to stop China from taking over the country, etc

Though China seems to know what is up and has people on the ground. South Korea seems to be basing their assumptions of Kim's status on where his train is.
