On the Trump impeachment inquiry, and Republicans' reluctance to cooperate with Democrat-led House committees, Maher quipped: "The president of the United States is going to be impeached because he treats subpoenas like parking tickets."

Maher also made the case that Democratic presidential candidates Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders were too "far left" to win the general election, and touted Sen. Amy Klobuchar as a "dark horse" who could potentially top the party's ticket.

Maher spoke to Klobuchar in a one-on-one interview. He argued that Klobuchar was "plenty liberal" but could actually beat President Trump.

"Obviously this is a fight between two wings of the party, which is almost every election. There is a center in the Democrat, a center-left wing. You're plenty liberal. You're plenty progressive," Maher told Klobuchar. "And then there is a far-left which I think would be represented by Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren."

Klobuchar would not address Warren and Sanders directly but clearly dismissed their platforms and pushed her center-left agenda.

"I want to win big and if someone is looking to kick one hundred forty nine million Americans off their current health insurance in four years then I'm not your candidate," Klobuchar said. "If you want to use a bunch of hardworking people's money to send rich people's kids to college for free and I'm not your candidate. And just because people say ideas are bold doesn't mean they're bold. They may be bad."

Maher also slammed former Vice President Joe Biden, saying he may be too old for the presidency, and that Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., wasn't doing well in the polls -- despite the media attention she's received after debate performances.

Klobuchar ripped Trump on his Ukraine phone call before making a case for her candidacy, saying "she could bring in moderate Republicans" and "win big." She is currently polling at 2 percent in the latest national Fox News Poll.

In an awkward moment, Maher emphasized that Klobuchar being a woman might help her chances as well.

"I'm saying it's a lot easier to be on the center side of things, as Obama was, if you are not a white man," Maher tried to clarify. "If you're a white straight man.

Klobuchar responded: "I want to make clear and I am excited to be one of several women in this race. But I'm not just running on that."

"I think your moment is to come," Maher said.

Thank you for posting this! I’m not a fan of the two party system, but the only Democrat I can get behind is Klobuchar, if for no other reason than she appears to be the only moderate on either side running for president. She’s gotten kind of buried early on (probably due to predictable trash thrown on her when she announced) but she’s hung in there, bided her time and stayed on message. She is pragmatic, grounded in common sense (compared to virtually every other candidate, including the infant in the WH) and she appears to realize that she would be responsible for ALL Americans, not just those who want everything handed to them or the idiots in goofy red hats. And it seems like folks are finally hearing her through the sound, fury and bullshit thrown up by the rest of the Democratic candidates. Good to see! I hope she plows through because I really would prefer not to have to use my vote on Libertarian or Independent candidates who (unfortunately) have no real shot at winning....

??? I like Klobuchar - because I'm a moderate commie pinko Democrat - but she's hardly the only moderate in the race.

Off the top of my head: Biden, Buttigieg, Bennet, Bullock, Ryan, Harris, Delaney...

I kind of like Yang, though Im really hesistant to throw my hat his way, as he seems like he’s got one idea and is running everything on that... Not comfortable with it. I totally agree on the party system though, I normally would vote independent but it does sort of feel like its throwing it away, but what other method do I really have to communicate with them that I dont like the DNC or GOP at this point...

I think Klobuchar could be a good running mate but fear she doesn't have the fire it's going to take to get in Trump's grill. There is one candidate that Trump would fear facing in the race and to me that's Warren.....a Warren/Klobuchar ticket would be a strong one. My favorite candidates so far have been Booker and Yang but I don't think they can cut through the BS that's going to come at them from the Trump camp....Warren I believe can. Beating Trump will take a BIG personality....Hillary came off as passive aggressive....the opposition to Trump in my view has to be UBER aggressive.

Like dont take this as an attack, but I dont understand why I keep hearing the Warren would kill Trump in a debate mantra (probably the wrong term here), she doesnt seem like that great of a debater to me. Just seems like it would be two grown adults yelling at each other..?

Well nothing about Trump's campaign culture is understandable....in retrospect coming off a loss like last election if you look at the end game...Trump won by yelling a lot....Warren doesn't have to yell fake news....she actually knows what she's talking about. She's one of the toughest candidates in the race when it comes to understanding her own process. Klobuchar is a moderate but she's a role player personality and not a starter. Yang and Klobuchar have the same issues when it comes to the popular vote....neither is very popular and I like both of them the same way I liked Pat Connaughton on the bench....solid, but not a starter

I guess? Obviously my own bias' plays a part I'm sure, just I haven't seen Warren debate or in the media and thought wow she's really gonna stomp Trump in a debate. Maybe she will? Just don't really see it. I agree that the other candidates are definitely just not popular enough (at least right now).

I like Klobuchar, America's nice aunt. If she somehow wins the nomination cool. She probably won't, but I hope she gets the VP nod.

You keep hearing it because she would.

I think in this case you've bought into some right wing spin on her....I watched the debates and she's clearly won them pretty easily. She's the alpha for the dems in the race....and if there's anyone spinning a repetitive mantra out there, it's Trump...with fake this and fake that....I brush that off like a cobweb....it's not a mantra..it's an observation. My mantra is a Cmaj7 chord

To me she comes across as a flighty whiny lady. She wears on you. To me she comes across as faking her enthusiasm to gain approval.

To me she comes across as a flighty whiny lady.
I think that's fairly sexist in observation......I mean...Trump is the whiny Richie Rich of the globe.....she's angry at Trump, I'm angry at Trump...aren't you? How can anyone not be at this point is beyond me....what I don't think flies is Joe Biden smiling through serious questions...Warren doesn' t smile when shit gets serious. To me that shows heart.

I can guarantee you I haven't. Because outside of looking up why a poster was calling her Pocahontas I haven't read any commentary on her from anywhere EDIT:(I guess other then here). It's just my own opinion no need to tell me I'm just buying into some propaganda. I saw her on Youtube, and saw some of the debates and my opinion is just based on that. It literally has NOTHING to do with believing someone's spin on her, it's my own spin on her. Like your observation, my observation is just different I guess.

Well you questioned why her supporters would see her as a threat to Trump and I answered.....I never said you were stuck in a mantra about your choices though..if you pose such questions is it for the sake of disagreement or understanding? If you ask me why I think what I think, I'm going to answer so the whole "no need to tell me" is not making sense when in fact your asked why people would support her.

I said mantra is probably not the right word lol. Just I keep hearing oh she's gonna kill Trump in a debate and I was just asking why that keeps getting said because my observation is she doesn't seem like that great of a debater? I think you answered it ok, but I guess didn't appreciate being told I only thought she wouldn't because I was just believing right-wing spin on her, but either way, I get what you're saying though.

Its just my observation and Im not sure why it has to be sexist? Your right about Trump and I do agree and about Joe and his on camera smile.
When my daughter would throw her arms around and talk all excited like, as her Dad I'd try and get her to come down some and collect her thoughts. She now thanks me.
I shouldn't be so critical, she's probably a really nice lady.

Riiiiiight..........and virtually everyone you mentioned has been peddling at least parts of the “Green New Deal”. I guess it all depends on what your definition of “moderate” is......

That Green New Deal in my view is the dems version of the Wall....just a sensationalized counter to uber wealthy tax evasion. It's ideology but with no pragmatic hope of becoming law.

That is an interesting take. I should think about that.

2%. :cheers:

I would vote for her for the local school board. She'd be great at it, probably the sanest out of the Dem 2020 clown-car travelling circus.

Dems have no candidate who can possibly be elected POTUS, and they all know it.

Assassination remains their only realistic option to stop Trump from bringing them to justice and saving American from their treason.

Hopefully, they fail at that also. :dunno:

When did they change the name of LaPine to Denial? Cause you are definitely living in Denial. :blahblah:

I don't think you are correct about that, except in the sense that practically anything can be considered part of the Green New Deal. I don't think any of them have endorsed the Deal overall or talk about it regularly. And I agree with Riverman - it's aspirational, not a map for governing.

it is the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal—
(A) to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions through a fair and just transition for all communities and workers;

(B) to create millions of good, high-wage jobs and ensure prosperity and economic security for all people of the United States;

(C) to invest in the infrastructure and industry of the United States to sustainably meet the challenges of the 21st century;

(D) to secure for all people of the United States for generations to come—

(i) clean air and water;

(ii) climate and community resiliency;

(iii) healthy food;

(iv) access to nature; and

(v) a sustainable environment; and

(E) to promote justice and equity by stopping current, preventing future, and repairing historic oppression of indigenous peoples, communities of color, migrant communities, deindustrialized communities, depopulated rural communities, the poor, low-income workers, women, the elderly, the unhoused, people with disabilities, and youth (referred to in this resolution as “frontline and vulnerable communities”);

Now, you might object to some of that, but do you disagree with (B) or (C) or (D)? I'll bet you don't, you crazy liberal!

I was talking the really stupid shit, like free 4 year college tuition, a guaranteed basic wage (whether willing to actually work or not), “free” healthcare, “free” or unsustainably low cost housing, etc, etc, etc. I’m reasonably liberal, but not so liberal that I’m willing to foot the bill for those who don’t have the motivation or interest in putting for an effort towards their own survival. There’s no free lunch Barfo.....and no one has the right to expect one. I’m all for leveling each and every playing field, but every capable individual needs to do their own part in life. And those who aren’t capable deserve our help. But even in socialism, if you don’t work you don’t eat.....

I think you underestimate Amy's ability to shine given the opportunity. I know she will be well liked in the mid west and by more republicans than Warren. Actually AK has a nice balance of in command and wit, and I don't think we have seen her best as yet. I think even tough she hasnt been able to field as many questions as the current front runners, I think she has hit the ball just as well as EW to date.
I actually think AK would do well against EW in a debate on issues and policy. Just my opinion.

fair enough....I hope in the endgame it's the voice of reason that defeats Trump..that's the bottom line for me

You're describing prison life....but you left out free gym membership

You're describing prison life....but you left out free gym membership
I get free gym membership with my Providence Medicare Advantage, its part of the monthly premium. So, it's not really free.
Since I worked all my life, budgeted the best I could, Invested, Im now retired & able to now purchase a medicare advantage plan. When I was a young pup I never thought Id be able to retire or collect the SS I paid the government for so many years. Ive tried to encourage my kids to work hard manage their finance's/Budget/save, stay out of jail, make sure your spouse works too (or you will pa spousal support if you are the only bread winner) and they too will be able to retire someday, if they want.

I doubt it's even aspirational. Errrr....wait! Do you smell a cow fart?
