Knicks @ Grizzlies

Definitely; this is really a hell of a way to kick off the NBA season, a triple over time game, and it could possibly go into a fourth overtime here with the way the game has been played so far.

Just a few more thoughts:

Chucky Atkins is amazingly selfish. He's been calling his own number time in and time out. Coach Fratello can't be drawing those plays up, and I thought it was sweet vindication when he got blocked by Crawford a minute or so ago on that three point attempt. (Edit: And he just lost the ball trying to be a one-man team again, at the most crucial point of the game.)

How about that behind-the-back alley-oop by David Lee to momentarily tie up the game for the Knicks? That's got to be one of the five or so biggest baskets in his career so far.

Again, I'm impressed with the Grizzlies' rookies and their clutch play. Rudy Gay has ice water running through his veins. For that matter, where did Lowry's tenacity under the boards come from? I remember him being a decent long ball rebounder at Villanova, but I don't remember him pushing fours and fives out of the way for boards like he's doing tonight.

I dont get how they could keep on giving the ball to crawford who is chucking every chance he gets. Give to Lee or Nate not a cold-shooter. Im sick of crawford now. His stupid shots are costing the knicks the game. not to mention we cant rebound for our lives. And the horrible officiating isnt helping either side.

Update: Crawford finally did something. Q hits boths FT's and theyre up by 1 with 8 seconds I think. I MORE DEFENSIVE STAND. LETS GO NYK

Dave Lee makes a lot of key plays last year. He flew under the radar because well, the Knicks, as you may have heard, weren't a very fundamentally sound or winning team last year.<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">

well yeah, he's getting some seriously inflated first-game-ppg stats from this triple (or 4x) OT game

Can you say 4-22? Crawford can.......

Your right VC, Rudy Gay has ice water in his vains.

Is it just me or is it funny to hear the "Vans" song in the background of a game this close?

Edit: Good game, neither team should hang their heads.....well maybe both should the way this game was

You can say that on JBB?

@ the Fratello comment. My friend actually said to me at the start of tonight's game, "What the hell is that guy's problem? The team looks so pumped up out there starting the season, and he looks like someone kicked him in the nuts."

I know Lee's had tons of key plays, and I even saw him live a few times as a Gator, but that play was pretty damn smooth, wasn't it? Not only did he tie the game, but he did it on a reverse alley-oop. That's just sick.

The players' stats are slightly inflated, but the minutes were pretty well distributed for the most part, and the game didn't become ridiculously high scoring. In fact, Phoenix can score this many points in regulation on any given night. Stats or no stats though, the rookies were just clutch and showed a lot of poise out there.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">You can say that on JBB?</div>

It's all about connotation. If he was calling a someone an asshole or saying that he likes it up the asshole, then I'd have to edit it, but since he's talking about Mike Fratello (while not baiting), it's alright.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Halleujah!</div>

And so begin two eras: the Isiah Thomas coaching era and the tanking for Greg Oden era.

Yeah, J_Ray. Learn how to spell, dammit.

Wow such an impressive game. Too bad I couldn't see it for myself, nba.com highlights just don't cut it.

David Lee sounds/looked amazing, really impressive with 10 and 13? Atleast that's what it said on NBA.com

Francis was ice cold, and Q-Rich looked pretty good.

</div>the last thing i'll say about M-Frat is he looks like the kind of guy that his wife would cheat on cause he never enjoys sex.

</div>yeah it was cool. he's in the league for his phundamentalz. he's well rounded as a player in all aspects - finish/pass/rebound. he puts the ball on the floor SOMEtimes but thankfully the knicks have other guys who do that - like the entire rest of the team.<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">

Why draft a big guy when you can trade, I dunno, for Telfair? Then MSG would be just like Ruckers except $50 for a bleacher ticket.

<div class="quote_poster">MrJ Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Tribute, what's good?

Ugh, another OT, this time without Marbury.</div>

The Knicks won so at the moment life is pretty good. I actually have a paper due tomorrow that I probably should have been working on during the game but it was the first game of the season and a good one at that so I couldnt miss a second of it. I'll probably go do it now or something.

Anyway this is a decent win for the Knicks. They played pretty well for the most part for about 3 quarters then they fell apart and blew a big lead as soon as the Grizzlies started applying pressure. Against a better team the Knicks would have certainly lost. In fact the only reason why they won now is because of Miller choking and Warrick's God awful free throw shooting. On the other hand a win is a win anyway you slice it. So I am moderately pleased. Curry was aggressive tonight which is a good thing but he was playing against a rather weak frontline so he should have dominated and he did offensively at any rate, his defense was still somewhere between horrible and mediocre. I hope he can do this against teams that are stronger upfront. Crawford was Godawful tonight but that great steal against Atkins made up for some of his extremely poor shooting. Richardson looks poised to return to his old form, Lee is looking really good and Steve Francis is just...I dont know. I seriously doubt the Grizzlies are going to make the playoffs with Gasol out for so long but it will do wonders for the developments of Warrick, Gay and Lowry and should pay dividends next season. The Knicks in my opinion still wont make the playoffs but they should be able to win 30 games or so. Oh yeah I almost forgot, if Frye isnt hitting his jumper he is absolutely useless. Not an especially satisfying win all things considered(big lead blown, Gasol out, Swift not playing) but better than losing.

Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

I was actually talking about the Grizzlies tanking. Why else would you trade Shane Battier for Rudy Gay, let Pau Gasol play in the FIBA games, and re-sign Chucky Atkins?

not to mention hide the coach's viagra so he acts like an uptight jerk all season long??

i see your point. Jerry West is a GENIUS. This is all a conspiracy to get oden. I see it now.

Nice win for the Knicks. It's never pretty looking to see a team to blow a 19 point lead in the 4th quarter, but they were able to battle it out to 3 overtimes. David Lee looked solid off the bench, I'm excited to see how he will progress over the season. Quentin Richardson is returning to his old self, knocking down his shots. Hopefully, the Knicks will make a bigger statement against the....Hawks.

Not to mention if the Knicks get the #1 pick it'll go to the Bulls.

A win is a win, so I slept comfortably yesterday. Still it is a bad sign giving up a 19-point lead to a Gasol-less Grizzlies team.

Glad to see the Knicks pulled this one out. Q Rich was on fire and I have been braggin to my peeps about him for the last 2 weeks. Hopefully he'll keep this up. We have a good chance to go 2-0 leading into the 1st home game cause the Hawks not looking good at all. PLus we will have more Knick fans in Phillips Arena than Hawks fans...GUARANTEED!!!
