Chandler would be a fantastic get, but I would bring him in off the bench for 24 minutes a game, playing with the starters quite a bit because he's taking 6 more of Robin's minutes than Freeland/TRob do now. But you have to start Lopez for the rest of the season, and re-evaluate after the championship parade.

I would do Freeland, Leonard, Claver, Wright.

Dame/Mo
Wes/CJ
Nic/Barton?
LA/TRob
Rolo/Chandler

Whoever is backing up Nic is kind of unimportant in Stotts's rotation: when Nic comes out, they go three-guard with Mo, CJ, and Wes; or Dame, Mo, and CJ; or Dame, Mo, and Wes). But yeah, Barton is as good as Wright practically speaking. Basically, Wes or CJ back up Nic the most.

That's the most I would give up, too. Even then we have less depth at C. If Chandler gets injured, or starts having back spasms, we no longer have anyone to back-up Lopez. For that reason I'd rather roll with Freeland/Leonard. I just don't see the sense in paying $14M for an over-the-hill C, when we don't have any sort of defensive scheme for him to succeed in.

The guy is a DPOY type, still one of the elite defensive C's in the game. Of course you would start him. I think he needs to play himself more into shape to return to form, though. He's close.

His injury was a broken leg, not one of those career altering knee or ankle type injuries.

He definitely would come off the bench here this season. Lopez has earned a starting spot and has LaMarcus playing at an MVP level. You don't disrupt that for any player this team can realistically acquire. Lopez has been good defensively, he isn't elite but he is far above average. Lopez has been better on offense than Chandler ever has though, his skillset meshes with our offense and penalizes teams for leaving him open at the free throw line. Chandler would disrupt that spacing and allow teams to cheat off him and double team Aldridge.

I'd love Chandler. He was the defensive anchor on that Dallas championship team. Having him slowly play into shape behind Robin would be ideal. There would certainly be situations where he could finish games over Robin depending on what was happening in the game.

I forgot about his connection with Stotts. I wonder if that has any impact.

Our offense is so smooth with Lopez right now though. Do you turn around and deal Rolo?

No. He's awesome backup for $6M. You want to play Chandler enough so he's ready for playoffs.

I like Lopez over Chandler at the end of games because he's a good foul shooter. Tyson's a career 64% FT shooter, and is a risk at the end of games. But the wastelands of mid-quarters? We need another anchor and Tyson is that guy.

Yeah, but he's also a defensive anchor when healthy. He will help stave off Durant/Harden/Westbrook wild drives to the rim and won't get as many fouls called on him because of his defensive reputation.

**UPDATED NBA RUMOR**Source: Knicks very open to trading Tyson Chandler before the trading deadline. (Blazers / Hawks / Warriors) interested

Any value to the thought process that keeping GSW from getting him is an important consideration here as well?

Absolutely. It was bad enough that they landed JO in the summer. Now with him out for the season, they can't get Chandler to play behind Bogut. We can't allow it to happen

Who do they have that they would trade for Chandler? They have to get at least 11 MIL going out I believe.

No, you do a deal if it helps make your team better. You don't make moves just to prevent other teams from making moves. Now if its a 15th man minimum salary for a month that will cost another team $10 million in cap space you'd have a point. But if we have to acquire a player with a $30 million salary it needs to help the team.

Is what we would get for what we would give up for Chandler at $14MM that much more than what we would get out of Hawes for so much less?

Good point, they would have to break up their starting 5 which is not happening.

...assuming that Philly would give us Hawes for what we would want to send them...

Of course but I'm just looking at the amount of production for the cost in salary.

................Pts..Rebs...Asts...Blks...FG%...FT%...3pt%..Mins
Chandler...7.9....7.5....1.3.....1.5... .567.. .617.. .000....26.7
Hawes......14.4...8.7....3.5.....1.4... .488.. .775.. .437....32.1

I think Chandler would change more shots even though their block rates are similar. Obviously Hawes has a huge advantage on the offensive end and even though his 3pt shooting is elite for a big man, it's his passing that intrigues me.

Hawes plays in a gimmick offense that has such a high pace it increases players stats and increases their efficiency. The team gives up a lot of points and losses by design. There is a reason Hawes, Thaddeus, and Turner are all having career years in both raw numbers and efficiency yet the team sucks.

Defensive effect is very hard to measure statistically. Chandler is great in that regard, and you won't be able to find numbers to back it up.

Yes he does but shooting .437 from '3' is not gimmick no matter what the pace. Also, assists from a big man are not fast-break oriented so those are legit as well. his rebounding numbers and points certainly are a bit elevated.

Felt that was too much youth to give up for Chandler. I kinda wanna hold on to at least one of TRob/Meyers.

Really too much considering Meyers has been a bust and we got Robinson on the cheap the deal would be a steal for a former All Star, DPOY, 3x All NBA Def, Olympic Gold Medal Winner and NBA Champion. His 14 million dollar contract will be worth a fortune next year if he does not work out.

Although we might need to get Philly involved since they have cap space and the Knicks do not have roster space for 4 players.

I like Freeland too, but Portland does that without blinking. New York on the other hand...

It saves them over $4.5 mil cash and another over $4.5 mil luxury tax. If they are over the tax for multiple years in a row there are some stiff penalties (BrianWA would know). The players we'd be giving them aren't horrible, they'd save $, Shrug.

It also helps them tank.
