Yes he does but shooting .437 from '3' is not gimmick no matter what the pace. Also, assists from a big man are not fast-break oriented so those are legit as well. his rebounding numbers and points certainly are a bit elevated.

:matrix:

Could Hawes be a contributing player on a good team? Yes I think so. But Chandler can be an anchor of a starting lineup. If Hawes is more than a backup his team is in trouble in my opinion. Comparing stats is silly for those two.

Well, since RoLo is great as our starter, maybe Hawes is the better choice. One more shooter, one more option for the bench.

Chandler is making so much money though.... I hate blowing up a third of the team just to bring in an aging center.

I love the idea of bringing in Hawes because I think he could play both positions.

The Blazers salary is irrelevant this year and next year. It'll won't be until the following year when Chandlers deal comes off the books that we need money for our starters.

I hate the idea because the last thing the #1 offensive team in the league needs is more one dimensional offensive players.

Our bench is not the #1 offensive bench in the league though... it's definitely filling a hole there. Granted our defense will suck more, but...

What if you traded Rolo to get him and signed Bynum to back him up?

That's where you're wrong. Our team is built almost entirely around offense, so part of the problem is that our bench simply couldn't keep up the scoring pace that the starters had set. This is why we've seen big leads diminish, or opponents build leads while our starters are out of the game.

If the bench had more firepower, there wouldn't be as much of a dropoff when the starters go out.

Yep... We'd win way more games by 15 than 5... Granted, the final score would be 135 - 120, but who doesn't love that?

See thats the thing, I wouldn't play Hawes over Freeland right now. I think it would make our team worse. Thats not because I think terribly highly of Freeland either.

Would Hawes be a better option when LaMarcus goes out of the game than TRob or Meyers? Oh heck yes, absolutely. But in the playoffs that will be an ~8 mpg role. Not terribly important.

8 minutes in a playoff game is important! 8 minutes is the difference between a 28 point lead and an 8 point lead (just ask Dallas)! With the way we lose leads when our bench is in, every minute we lack offensive production is a minute the starters have to spend digging the team out of holes. If we can't get better at forcing consecutive stops, let's make it harder for the opponent to do it.

The Blazers are going to appeal to the league to get more timeouts to rest our starters. That way our starters can play the whole game. The league will allow it calling it the "Meyers Leonard" rule :)

How about an 8-minute "quarter time" between quarters.

I would trade Claver, Wright, Leonard and either Barton or T-Rob. Would make Chandler our 3rd Big man, Freeland our 4th. Wouldn't trade anyone from our top 8 for him, including Freeland, CJ.

1st on offense and bottom 3rd on defense (team) isn't typical champions' rank

If we trade Robinson, the poor guy might just retire.

I'll trust our genius gm. I mean I hate Chandler and I love our chemistry but there is no denying he can defend and could probably be Lopez plus.

It actually works for Robinson, Wright, Leonard and Claver.

Is Robinson and Leonard too much? If Chandler could come back and be 75% that would probably be worth it.

This doesn't give NY any salary relief, but it would give them younger talent. But, if we are talking to them then they already know we don't have any expiring contracts.

With where Chandler is at in his career, Robinson is. Very similar to Jermaine for Dale all over again. Not insinuating that Thomas is the next Jermaine.

If they could get him without moving the core of LA, Damian, Nic, Matthews, Robin, TRob, Mo, CJ. I'm all over the deal and think this gives Portland a great chance this year.

Man, that's a lot to give up for a guy that's 31 and just coming off an injury.

Honestly, I don't shed many tears for Wright, Leonard, or Claver, but I'd hate to give up Robinson. New York needs to give something else back. Second rounder or something?

We would be decimating our bench in a trade for Chandler. Send some draft picks our way, baby!
