Not much to say about that choke job. I think the series is done after that kind of loss. We'll see if I'm right or wrong, but to lose with an all-time epic collapse I think is too much. Look at how the Cavs series went after their epic all-time collapse in game 2. It's a shame actually, and sort of not surprising being a NY fan.

You had to feel really good about how the Knicks were playing up 9 with 58 seconds left, and not just about this game but feeling like hey maybe the Knicks can actually win the championship. Then NY did what NY does, epic collapse, missed FT's, missed easy shots, stupid mistakes, and the rest is history.

Honestly, I most likely won't even watch the rest of the series, really no point. Just like they had no shot to win the OT, I do not see how the Knicks win the series after this collapse. And yes, I do think it gets Tibs fired, how do you keep your coach after this.

Interesting off-season for the Knicks and Rangers, both collapsed in different ways.

Forget up 14 with 3 minutes left, they were up 9 with 58 seconds left after Brunson's 3. You could play that last 58 seconds 100 times, and the Knicks would win 98 or 99 of the 100. All-time collapse, and I just don't see how you come back from that kind of loss to win the series. I wouldn't be surprised if Indy rolls in game 2. I'll find out about it the next day.
 
Miss 12 FT's, 15 TO's, Pacers shoot 40% from 3P range. SMH.

I'll tell you one thing, it's not easy to be a NY sports fan.

Knicks haven't won a title since 73, hadn't made the ECF since 2000 until this season, have an all-time epic collapse with a 99% chance to win late that to me ends their hopes to win the series.

Rangers have one Cup since 1940 and come up short in big spots year after year.

Giants are my only team that actually wins with some SB titles, but since 2011 they have been one of the worst teams in the NFL, so the title wins are fading fast.

Mets have one WS in my lifetime, 39 years ago, and have struggled for long stretches. Sure, they'll collapse this season when the time comes.

It isn't easy. Even the Yanks haven't won the WS since 2009 and have one title since 2000.

Being a NY sports fan really does suck and is agonizing to be honest. What happened to the Knicks tonight is quite frankly expected and par for the NY course.

And BTW, what an embarrassing smack in the face to see Haliburton do the choke hand gesture on the Knicks home court. He 100% earned the right to do it after that collapse, but it doesn't make it any less embarrassing. The Knicks should truthfully be embarrassed by how they played the final 58 seconds, and the final 3 or so minutes.

But again, if we're all being honest it fits the NY sports mold perfectly.
 
I wish someone would punch Haliburton in the face next game. I honestly stopped watching after knicks 17 point lead then the knicks pulled this shit. Up until that point I thought the pacers are not that special and the knicks will beat them in 6 then the knicks decided to take the night off with 3 minutes left.
 
I hear you on Haliburton, but truthfully the Knicks deserved that. If they didn't want him to do it, don't have an all-time epic choke job. That's a don't hate the player hate the game type of moment. The Knicks were a disgrace down the stretch, and good for the Pacers and Haliburton for helping to make them look foolish and embarrassing them.

I agree, that was my point earlier as well. You really started to feel like wow the Knicks may actually do this. Indy doesn't look that tough, solid game 1 win, good chance to make the Finals, and then anything can happen against OKC. An epic collapse later, and everything is gone and over IMO. Welcome to NY!!!

Comedy of errors down the stretch, both physically and mentally. It will be really interesting to see if the Knicks can overcome this. Mentally you have to figure they are crushed, meanwhile the Pacers are the exact opposite filled with confidence and energy. I think it's going to be extremely difficult to battle back mentally and win this series after a loss like that, and I don't think they will and this ends in 6, especially when I question Tibs in general and I don't think the Knicks have the highest basketball IQ as a team.

The plus is game 2 is tomorrow night, so it's a quick turnaround. Obviously a 100000% must win for the Knicks if they want to have any shot. Simply put, they need to win 2 of the next 3 (I think 3 of the next 4), and we'll go from there.

It was a quick play that continued after the 'block'...refs didn't detect the ball hitting glass a millisecond before the 'block'. Sucks for the knicks but in live action thats almost impossible to catch. One of many things that didnt go their way at the end of the game...including that ridiculous shot Halliburton hit at the buzzer. Still cant believe it dropped after bouncing off the rim.
 
Saw a stat, the Knicks are the first team since 1998, over 1400 games, to blow a 9+ point lead in the final minute of the 4th Q or OT. The Pacers had a 0.2% chance to win the game with under a minute remaining. You cannot make it up, I truly don't know how you overcome that mentally, not to mention the momentum Indy will get from the win.

Physically the Knicks will be fine, mentally, I think it's going to be a lot to overcome. I truly hope I'm wrong, which I doubt I am, but it's extremely difficult to see them winning the series after that type of loss.

If the Knicks want to have any longshot chance to overcome the mentally crushing loss, game 2 is a 100000% absolute must win. They cannot lose game 2 and have even a tiny chance of winning this series. I actually think the Knicks will win game 2, but the series still ends in 6. I am doubtful the Knicks will win a game in Indy.

The NBA took 10 minutes to concoct a ridiculous interpretation of the rules to give Indy the ball after OG was clearly fouled twice attempting to tip in a ball he bobbled. Having Reggie Miller screech "There's the foul!" every time TBS went to super slo mo to isolate the ticky tac call against the Knicks while keeping quiet when Pacers committed obvious uncalled fouls makes his broadcast bias that much more intolerable.
 
Let's see, Reggie Miller not only hates the Knicks, but he is also an all-time Pacers legend with his number hanging in the rafters, I wonder where his loyalties lie. Like I said prior to game 1, it is a flat-out joke TNT decided to have Miller call this series, it's difficult to listen to. Not only that, what Knick fan over 30 wants to hear Reggie F'ing Miller call a Knicks/Pacers game, ridiculous. They don't care about NY, the largest market in the world.

What's even worse is to me I think Miller isn't a good analyst anyway, it's confounding to me how he ended up on their # 1 team especially give their analyst talent pool, then you compound that by having him call games of his # 1 hated team, the Knicks, against the team he was a legend for 18 seasons, the Pacers.

All this as he's sitting on the sideline smiling as the Pacers came back, and Haliburton gave the choke gesture.

Yeah, fair and equal coverage...

One thing I have realized is these non-MSG announcers and networks, love to hate NY in general. Doesn't matter if it's the Knicks, Rangers, other, just the way it is. Everyone loves to hate NY. It's very clear and obvious to anyone who is listening.
 
The series was over after game 1, period. I didn't even watch a second of the game tonight, just took a look at the score after 10:30. There was no way they were going to have an all-time epic collapse in game 1 and win the series still, wasn't happening. The Knicks were crushed mentally, and the Pacers got a huge energy and confidence boost. I did think the Knicks would show something and win tonight, I was wrong about that, but I knew the series was absolutely finished after the collapse. I'm not even bothered by tonight because it didn't matter after game 1.

To me I think everything that was said before the Boston series holds true, just one round later. The Knicks will never win a title with Tibs as their coach, and they are one player away. The real question now is does Rose get fooled into thinking this team was right there since they made the ECF, and he keeps Tibs and makes minor tweaks OR does Rose see the big picture and get the deal here and change the coach, which absolutely needs to happen, and does he try to add the one more player the team needs. A great executive sees the big picture, we'll see if Rose is that guy.

Be it Durant if they can get him, or Giannis if they can get him - I'd offer every pick I had and every player I had outside of Brunson to get him, but I doubt the Knicks have the assets to pull it off because they unfortunately shot their load on Bridges.

The Knicks and Rangers both have extremely interesting off seasons coming up. The Rangers need major core changes, does Drury have the balls and creativity to pull it off. The Knicks need a new coach, and one more very good player to be a legit title contender. Does Rose get that Tibs isn't the right coach, and does he have the assets to add the one more player the team needs to be a legit contender.

In a weird way, I'm actually more concerned that Rose doesn't get what needs to be done than Drury. After this season Drury has to get big changes are needed. I can totally see Rose being fooled into thinking the Knicks are so close, they made the ECF, how can you fire Tibs, you don't need another very good player added. I am concerned Rose falls into the trap, it's a dangerous situation for Rose IMO, he has to be very wise and forward looking to stay out of the trap and know what needs to be done.

It will be fascinating to see what happens starting in about 5 weeks or so.

I think some of you guys really underestimate what happened in game 1. The first time in TWENTY-SEVEN years, over 1,400 games, a team blew a 9+ point lead with a minute left in the 4th Q/OT. The Pacers had a 0.2% chance to win down the stretch. There was simply no shot the Knicks were winning this series after that type of demoralizing, crushing, devastating loss, NO SHOT. The series essentially ended when Haliburton's shot bounced high in the air and came down in the net. That hoop was the end of the Knicks season, and it was setup by an all-time epic collapse.

The real shame is if the Knicks would have won game 1, I strongly think they would have won the series, they outclassed the Pacers for a lot of that game, and it would have changed everything in the series...too bad.

1 championship combined in 5o years for both MSG teams. Just pathetic. One of the biggest markets in North American professional sports.
 
NY is a terrible sports town with regards to winning titles, just terrible.

Knicks haven't won since 73, Rangers haven't won since 94 (1 Cup since 1940), the Giants have won SB's, but since their last title in 2011 they have been one of the worst teams in the NFL, my Mets haven't won since 1986, and even the Yanks haven't won since 2009 (1 WS title since 2000).

I thought the Knicks were gonna lose a series before it started. As I said the Pacers are pathetically underrated. Coaching matters and they have the best coach in the league. They beat the crap out of the number one seed.
 
The Pacers are very good, in the best-case scenario this was going to be a long coin toss series, but everything changed with the way the Knicks lost game 1. It essentially took any competitive mental battle out of the series. To me, everything has to be viewed differently after the game 1 epic all-time collapse.

What I find interesting is I would argue Rose is in almost the exact same situation as Drury was last summer.

The Rangers were coming off an ECF run, and obviously very clearly needed major core changes after the Florida loss, it was obvious to anyone who was paying close attention. Drury fell into the trap of "we just made the ECF, how can I make major changes, we don't need that", and the rest is history as the Rangers had a horrific season.

The Knicks are coming off an ECF run, they don't need major core changes, but obviously very clearly need a new coach, and one more very good player to be a legit title contender, it is obvious to anyone paying close attention. Will Rose fall into the Drury trap "we just made the ECF, how can I fire the coach, and we don't need another very good player, we don't need that". He must have the foresight to see big picture and know what the team needs, he cannot be fooled like Drury was.

I have faith in Rose, but I also understand it is going to be extremely difficult to fire the coach after an ECF trip and making it further than the Knicks have in 25 years. Adding another very good player may be a challenge also due to available tradable assets and cap flexibility, but Rose must find a way to do it. The Knicks are not good enough as is, that's just reality, staying the course with this roster is dooming the Knicks to a very good but not a great title contending team, and that is worst thing to be. If Tibs stays I fear the Knicks will not make it back to the ECF next season, let alone win the title. It's a huge test for Rose this summer.

Drury failed the test miserably, and we paid for it as Rangers fans (I am hopeful he does much better on the test this summer). Will Rose pass the test, or do we have to suffer through a major step back Knicks season, we'll see.

The miracle comeback in Game 1 couldn't have happened without their pro wrestling style officiating, missing obvious goaltending, allowing moving screens to free up shooters then grappling Knick defenders trying to work through. The NBA and NHL have always operated with the philosophy that NYC teams will always sell out whether they win championships or not while smaller markets need officiating help to win championships to grow the sport. The NHL has always disrespected the Rangers, allowing another franchise within 20 miles of the Garden then completely changing the rules of hockey to help the hapless Devils succeed while the sport faltered. The NBA officiating has always been suspect to the point they had to admit that one (just one) ref was fixing games for gamblers, no sport has as many late game shenanigans with the point spreads as the NBA.
 
Overall, I do agree NY gets the short end of the stick in many ways. I think your point of NY always selling out win or lose plays a part. Meanwhile, you have teams like the Pens about to relocate until the league gifted them Crosby. So, I agree with your overall premise of officials and leagues themselves disrespecting NY teams.

With that said, while I do agree with you, I would also say these NY franchises have been so poorly run by ownership and/or Pres/GM's, that is a factor also (always going for the fat cat soft big-name stars instead of building a real tough cohesive blue-collar team). I would say the poor ownership and/or leadership have compounded a bad situation of anti-NY officials and leagues. It's been sort of a perfect storm, that's why NY almost never wins in sports, zero titles since 2011, and 3 titles since 2000.

It's really sad NY is awful in sports.
 
I don't think it matters, and I expect the Knicks to get blown out tonight, but I was reading Tibs may put Robinson in the starting lineup over Hart, I like that idea. It's too late now to make an impact and change the series, game 2 would have been a better time to make that move, but it makes sense to me.

It pains me to say it, but I do not think game 3 will be close at all. I think the game will be over early, and there won't be much to watch. There is a pretty strong chance the Knicks will get embarrassingly swept.
 
Blaming the officials makes you look like a pussy. The Knicks lost the first two games because their head coach is inferior to the Pacers head coach. Thibodeaux has had every opportunity to play the bench more during the regular season to develop them and he refuses to do that.
 
Indiana is not as good at home as on the road. Does not mean that the knicks will win but hopefully can still make a close series at least. They've been one of the best teams on the road in the playoffs. MSG teams have sucked ass historically at home in big games in the playoffs. I would rather prefer both the Rangers and the Knicks not to have any sort of home ice/court advantage this deep in the playoffs.
 
Tibs is not a good coach for where the Knicks want to go and be. I said it last season during the playoffs, I would have fired him last summer. I also said it before and during these playoffs. Tibs needs to go, and Rose should not have his judgement clouded by an ECF run, Rose needs to avoid the Drury trap.

I also don't think you can blame the officials for an all-time epic collapse in game 1. I do agree they blew some calls late, but when you blow a 9-point lead with under one minute remaining in the game, the first time in 27 years and over 1,400 games that happened, that's not on the refs.

Did the refs miss FT's down the stretch, did the refs turn the ball over down the stretch, did the refs leave Indiana shooters wide open down the stretch, the answer to all is no. Multiple things can be true, the Knicks F'd themselves with their terrible sloppy play late AND if the refs did a better job the Knicks would have survived their terrible sloppy play late and held on to win game 1.

Both things can be true, but at the end of the day you cannot blame the refs for the L when the Knicks were terrible and sloppy late and never should have put themselves in a position where the refs would matter late.

Indiana is much better at home than on the road the past couple of seasons, especially with Haliburton.

They were 29-11 at home during the regular season and 20-20 on the road.
In the playoffs last season, they were 6-0 at home in rounds 1 & 2, before Haliburton got hurt in the Boston series. They were 2-7 on the road in the playoffs last season with Haliburton.
In the playoffs so far this season, they are 4-1 at home, and 6-1 on the road. This season they are good at home and on the road.

I do like the Knicks better on the road, I agree there though. They have played much better on the road in the playoffs overall, they are 5-1 on the road so far this year. But they were also 0-3 on the road against Indiana in last year's series and got blown out twice. I have liked the Rangers much better on the road in the playoffs for years now, and I feel the same way about the Knicks, though not as strongly.

With that said, I really don't see a way this game is close, I think the Knicks will get blown out tonight. They lost everything in the epic collapse. I just checked, and Indiana is only favored by 1.5 points, man that seems like a slam dunk cover, crazy the spread is so low.

I think we all can agree, if the Knicks lose game 3 it's over. If there is going to be a prideful emotional last stand, this is it. We'll see what type of energy and passion they come out with. If they lay an egg, I think it makes a huge statement about them mentally and should tell Rose all he needs to know about the coach. And if it were my choice, I would absolutely be starting Robinson tonight. I think it should give the Knicks better balance and flow starters/bench. I hope Tibs makes the change.

lol I don’t even know these new guys Thibs decided to put in because he barely uses his bench except for deuce and Mitch and sometimes crappy Payne
