Do you guys think there's any way for us to get Kobe Bryant? I tried a trade scenario on RealGM and it worked out:
New Jersey Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Vince Carter
6-6 SG from North Carolina
25.2 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 4.8 apg in 38.1 minutes
Antoine Wright
6-6 SF from Texas A&M
4.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 0.9 apg in 18.0 minutes
Mile Ilic
7-2 C from Serbia-Montenegro (Foreign)
0.0 ppg, 0.2 rpg, 0.0 apg in 1.2 minutes
2007 Draft #17 Pick

L.A. Lakers Trade Breakdown

Mile Ilic
7-2 C from Serbia-Montenegro (Foreign)
0.0 ppg, 0.2 rpg, 0.0 apg in 1.2 minutes
Change in team outlook: -1.9 ppg, +3.3 rpg, and +0.3 apg.
Successful Scenario
Due to New Jersey and L.A. Lakers being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New Jersey and L.A. Lakers had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Basically, we sign and trade Carter and send him along with Wright, Ilic and our first round pick (#17) to the Lakers for Kobe and on of their 2nd round picks (#40).
Ilic doesn't look like he's really a part of the Nets' future, and Wright has been a bust so far. Both could really help out the Lakers rebuilding proccess (Wright could even start or be the 6th or 7th man, while Ilic is a gamble for the future who could become a good backup big man for Bynum). Our 17th pick is a sacrifice, but it's a huge part of the trade for LA.
Carter probably doesn't want to stay, but the big question is whether he'd want to sign if he knew he'd be traded to LA. Obviously, he's not close to Kobe's level of play lately.
Anyway, there are a few big questions:
1)Can Kobe help lead us to the title along with Kidd, RJ, Krstic and Moore?
2)Can we sign at least two solid benchies in the offseason to help us out?
3)Will the Lakers even want to trade Kobe for an aging Carter, a draft pick and two risky players?
4)Is three players and a good draft pick too much for one player?
