Thoughts? Think it'll work? Please take time to watch! It's absolutely worth it!

I think this is awesome and am looking forward to see how it plays out. I can see there being a few idiots taking advantage of April 20-21, but I hope everything goes well. Great to see people fighting for this, I know it made an impact at my school when they came through a few years ago. Crazy that it's already at 600k views, I bet it'll be into the millions by the time people wake up on the west coast.

Blowing up my facebook feed the last 6 hours.

Coincidence they put it on 4/20? Pretty unlikely IMO.

Shouldn't we Free Tibet first?

sorry, that was SO 5 years ago. :MARIS61:

Well, they can't protest the Afghan war, because their guy is the civilian-killing warmonger now, and the Occupy thing fizzled out when it got a bit chilly outside, so it's on to a new cause that will accomplish nothing in the end. :MARIS61:

Yeah. I went to an invisible children event like a year ago. its just "viral" now.

"educate yourself by watching this film that we heavily edited to elicit an emotional response"

I went to an invisible children event last year. bunch of art-hipster dofuses, spending most of the time drinking free booze and checking out overpriced street art exhibits.

And you really think that that's the goal of Invisible Children? You're going to take one experience with a bunch of fools who are more into saying they want to improve things than actually doing something and take that as a representation of everyone who supports Invisible Children, especially the leadership?

Can somebody tell me who or what are the invisible children? Is it the group that put together that heavily-produced YouTube video linked in the first post?

Its a lot like this recent fluff on facebook and twitter the last 24 hours.

armchair philanthropists who only get their news through viral media and the latest craze, watching heavily edited and skewed videos and believing that is "educating oneself". Its just annoying and another case of typical lip service.

Goals? They want to send US ground troops against an army of children? just wait until THAT youtube video pops up.

The problem is you have a bunch of idealist who want to enforce their own superficial beliefs with fluffy viral videos. Its like a gigantic TED conference where "intellectuals" want to solve all the world's problems by intervening and forcing their own beliefs on the world.

After 3 minutes of no information being presented, I'm not spending another 27 minutes watching this snail-paced whatever it is. Maybe you could recap the basic idea/message if there is one.

Yeah, I felt the same way, except I only made it 1:34 into it. Make your point without the theme music and production, and maybe I'll be interested in your cause.

WHY DO YOU GUYS NOT STAY IGNORANT? WATCH THE DAMN VIDEO!

hey, 70% of their budget was to make videos. so it has to be "good".

Can somebody tell me who or what are the invisible children?

They are Ugandan Children who have to hike several miles away from their village each night to a refuge camp just to sleep. OR, fear being abducted by the LRA and forced to become child soldiers. Kony is the leader of the LRA.

Watched the movie 5 years ago, very powerful film:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invisible_Children

http://www.amazon.com/First-Kill-Your-Family-Resistance/dp/1556527993 - First Kill Your Family

"For more than twenty years, beginning in the mid-1980s, the Lord’s Resistance Army has ravaged northern Uganda. Tens of thousands have been slaughtered, and thousands more mutilated and traumatized. At least 1.5 million people have been driven from a pastoral existence into the squalor of refugee camps."

No, Maris, you are making the same mistake Rush Limbaugh did - it has the word Lord so it must be Christian. In fact LRA is not and has no backing from any Christian group, conservative, liberal, apolitical, Catholic, Protestant, Eastern Orthodox, Latter Day Saints, name it.

I'm not defending Christianity, just facts.

I can't comment on the vid since I have not viewed it.

Several months ago, Pres. Obama announced support to forces in 4 countries that are trying to root out LRA and Rushbo went on a rant about how the "muslim" president was attacking Christians. A 5 minute Google search would have shown what LRA is. I guess he didn't do his homework in high school either, that's why he is so furious about educated women!

It is led by Joseph Kony, who proclaims himself the spokesperson of God and a spirit medium, primarily of the Holy Spirit, which the group believes can represent itself in many manifestations. Ideologically, the group is a syncretic mix of of traditional African religion, Acholi nationalism, and Christianity, and claims to be establishing a theocratic state based on the Ten Commandments and local Acholi tradition.

If you believe Alex Jones this is a ploy to eventually kick the Chinese out of Africa.

It's about control, oil, and minerals.

Apparently....

I was at Tualatin HS today for Opening Day ceremonies for the softball/baseball season.

Kony 2012 crap was painted all over the sidewalk and a few walls in graffiti.

Nobody with me knew what it was. I said it's the latest Free Tibet thing for young people, except this one includes sending US troops to Africa to stop some guy name Kony who was big in 2003 from making kids fight. Everybody pretty much laughed, shook their heads, and said "kids". The only thing not funny was the vandalism.

Does Israel want us to start a war there? No? Well then, we won't.
