Charlotte Bobcats bid Acie Law, Flip Murray and their 2010 first-round pick, a league executive said. The Bobcats have been searching for a long, athletic forward like Thomas, the fourth pick in the 2007 draft, and are expected to be aggressive pursuers. Portland Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard made an offer they’ll have to improve upon to be taken seriously – one of his expiring contracts (Steve Blake or Travis Outlaw) and two future second-round draft pick

Meh, that is all I would offer for Thomas as well because he really hasn't been all that. His attitude also sucks. Good rebounder, I believe.

Weird, Charlotte owes their first rounder(top 10 protected) to Denver this season. Can't see how they would offer it to Chicago. I don't think, since the protection isn't off until 2014, that they can offer anything but a 2016 1st rounder.

Still, I couldn't figure out if he meant Charlotte or PDX has to improve their offer. Assuming PDX. Meh, I dunno. Is Thomas really that much better than Cunningham is?

I think we'd play Tyrus more at Center in the smaller second unit.

He's a decent rebounder, and a great weak-side shot blocker, but he makes Travis look like Larry Bird in terms of court sense and Basketball IQ. I certainly wouldn't want to see KP break the bank to get him (especially as a 28 game rental), but a Blake or Trav plus some paltry second round picks seems to be pretty weak.

I will give Thomas this though, since he came back from injury that Bulls team seems to be playing a lot better ... I'm not sure how much you can attribute to Thomas (pretty small sample size so advanced stats may not be all that helpful) but it's something to think about -- he'd definitely improve our interior defense.

No thanks. Dude is a head case. Portland doesn't need a guy like that around the team.

lol...KP is amateur hour when it comes to making trades...

Maybe he has watched semi-pro too often?

Here I got a bag of used basketballs and $3 million dollars, what do you say to trading me Derrick Rose for that?

Wonder if Rudy will be dealt in a package for him. .....he's too undersized though.

Amateur hour?
KP got us Roy and Aldridge and pulled off the most trades in draft day history. That's amateur?

At least your avatar is nice, because your post sucked.

Thomas is expiring and will expect (and deserves) a decent contract. I suppose trading him for someone like Blake or Outlaw makes sense, but he won't be anything more than a rent-a-player unless the Blazers want to pay him big money to be a back-up to Aldridge.

So often fans around here do not want players because they are not nice guys. You know the reason Juwan Howard had to go off on the team before the PHX game? Because all of them are nice guys and playing like they are nice guys. I would love to get some more nasty and attitude on this team. I think Thomas would bring that, although his basktball IQ can sometimes drive you insane, his effort and rebounding and shot blocking would be very welcome here.

Brian T. Smith said:
A league source confirmed to The Columbian on Thursday that the Portland Trail Blazers are highly interested in Chicago Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas.

The source said the Blazers' are intrigued by Thomas' youth and his shot-blocking abilities. In addition, Thomas would fit in well with Portland's timeline and current roster needs.

Yahoo! Sports originally reported that the Blazers offered either Steve Blake or Travis Outlaw — both of whom have expiring contracts — and two future second-round draft picks for Thomas. The Bulls reportedly declined the deal, though, because they want more value in return.

Thomas, a fourth-year forward out of Louisiana State, is averaging 8.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.1 assists for Chicago this season. He has only played in 27 games, though, due to an absence caused by a fractured radius in his left forearm.

Thomas' best season came in 2008-09, when he averaged 10.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks. He is averaging 7.8 points and 5.1 boards during his career.

The 6-foot-10, 225-pound Thomas is set to make $4.7 million this season. He will then become a restricted free agent. The Bulls hold a $6.2 million qualifying offer on Thomas in 2010-11.

The Blazers have long been interested in Thomas. Portland originally selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. But Thomas' draft rights were traded by the Blazers to the Bulls in exchange for the rights to LaMarcus Aldridge and Viktor Khryapa.

There's many kinds of nasty. There's "cut the other guy's balls off to win" nasty, like Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan (as players). Then there's "complete asshole, not necessarily going to help you win" like Ruben Patterson. Then there's "complete asshole, doesn't give a shit", like Derrick Coleman. Methinks Thomas is in either the second or the third, whereas you want the first.

I dunno, for all of his warts I kind of like him. He's a hothead, but he's tough, and you have to wonder how much playing for Del Negro has stunted his development.

I'd offer Trav plus a lottery protected first for him

At the same time, when Thomas and Noah moved into the starting lineup last year with Chicago, and when they faced Boston in the playoffs, I think both of those young players demonstrated the type of nasty I am looking for. They block shots, they rebound, they play with an attitude. It wasn't that long ago that Noah was the guy who was maligned for his attitude. Look at him now. I know it's not a sure thing, but I think Thomas could fit here as a backup PF type. He is also an excellent finisher on the break with his ability to play above the rim.

Blake OR Travis? I'd trade Blake AND Travis for Tyrus Thomas. The best part would be watching Nate's head explode when KP takes Blake and Trav away from him and he has to figure out how to incorporate Thomas into the team and get him to play 'the way we play.' Oh, why does KP hate Nate? :devilwink:

why is this even getting attention? kpee already said hes in love with the roster. no trades.

Let me clarify...I give Pritchard major props for evaluating talent via the draft and making trades necessary to go and get those players, so yeah in your example you are correct.

However, when it comes to making deals that are NOT on draft day, Pritchard keeps thinking he can pick up othere teams' good players dirt cheap and he overvalues his own players (he pretty much said that in today's article BTW).

Eventually he is going to have to trade some players he is emotionally attached to, b\c even if he thinks the roster "as is" is capable of winning an NBA title (and I don't think it is)...He is delusional if he thinks players like Bayless, Batum, Rudy, Webster, Outlaw are going to be happy playing limited minutes...Is he also not a chemistry major?...Maybe he should call Bob Whitsitt about that?

I personally dont think Thomas is worth an expiring contract and a 1st round pick. Expiring contract and 2nd round picks - yes... but not a 1st.

His stats:

If I were another team I'd ask for Joel Freeland rather than future picks.

Tyrus isn't a tough guy. He's a dipshit who believes he is WAY better then he really is.

This isn't the case of a dude like Stephen Jackson who is actually a good player.

The last thing this team needs is a guy who is going to bitch constantly about playing time/touches.

Fuck Tyrus Thomas. I was bummed when Portland drafted him and would be bummed if Portland traded for him.

I wouldn't want that dude if the Bulls gave him to Portland for nothing.

Let's put it this way. If a shit team like the Bulls don't want to give him PT what makes you think he would fair any better in Portland.

That's why I said Lotto protected. Is there really going to be anybody this year in the mid teens to late first round that is likely to be better? :dunno: Possibly, but this team needs another rookie with a guaranteed contract like I need a hole in the head.

I wonder if Chicago would do this:

Blake, Travis, Webster (total $12M, only Webster goes beyond this year)
for
Hinrich and TT (total $14M)

I think they might. Should we? I would be very torn about getting rid of Outlaw - maybe we could insist that they waive him.

Agreed. Adding a young big man who can fill a role off the bench (a true backup power forward) for a pair of expiring guys that I, personally, would not mind seeing go would be a nice move.

I think Chicago would probably do that, especially since it clears so much cap room for them, but damn Kirk would be a helluva an expensive backup point guard for what he provides.
