Kevin Pritchard goes public on the BFT at 3:05 p.m. on 95.5-FM
by John Canzano, The Oregonian
Thursday July 09, 2009, 12:52 PM

I spent a good portion of my morning fielding questions and making inquiries about the negotiations between Brandon Roy and the Blazers... also, the perception of this summer being awful for the organization... the Paul Millsap offer-sheet reports, etc... basically, doing my job.

Because you asked me to...

Kevin Pritchard is going to break his silence and come on the Bald Faced Truth radio show at 3:05 p.m. on 95.5-FM to talk about the various issues the team is facing. Tune in, or listen online at 955thegame.com. Also, podcasts available at baldfacedtruth.com if you're interested.

This is going to be good.

Ha ha ha no it's not. I believe somebody from the board should be able to post exactly what he will say within a few minutes. I believe they have every piece of corporate jargon down.......:devilwink:

Get the pritchforks out! Let's string 'im up!

barfo

KP delivers a back handed "PrichSlap" to Hedo. Says the Blazers are better off without Hedo, because "they want players who want to win, want players who are HONEST...."

he's going to dodge every question with his culture crap

LOL I agree.

He should go on the radio and tell everyone what his plan is. We deserve that. After all, we post on a message board and Canzano has a radio show.

KP has definitely learned from Steve Patterson the art of answering a question by not answering the question.

When you can take the goldfish from my palm, you, will be the master!:ghoti:

annoying interview, same shit over and over and over..just quit bringing him on for interviews, b/c he's not spilling the beans

There's hardly anyone in sports these days that will say what they actually mean or what they perceive the truth to be. The lawyers have seen to that. Every comment has to be measured. KP can't even hint at the wrong thing publicly or some agent, lawyer, player, or opposing GM will get their panties in a bunch and cry to the media about it. Welcome to the 21st Century.

Reading the tea leaves from the interview, if I had to guess, the Blazers will not make any deal this summer and will hope against all hope and pray that a miracle comes down before the trade deadline.

fuck

no shit. which is why I said quit bringing him on.

i don't understand why people are annoyed by him not saying anything. The more he says about what the blazers are trying to do, the more the other NBA teams know what he actually wants. If they know what he wants, they'll have more negotiating power. It doesn't seem that hard to figure this out...does it?

He started out by asking legitimate questions about Roy. But then he just ended up asking stupid question after stupid question. You sound tired and defeated. OK jason quick.

He kept going back to other teams getting better, but he kept using Utah (Which stayed the same) as a success because they kept their own players. (But if Portland stays the same it is an awful summer). No logic there.

Normally, I'd agree with you ... and hell, I've even said it before. But every time KP has taken this tone, we've been left at the altar (last summer, last trade deadline, draft day, Hedo, etc.). Until he actually proves that he is willing to make a trade to improve this team, I'm forced to believe he isn't talking like he's leaning toward changing the roster because he isn't going to change the roster.

Exactly. He can't even talk about players on other teams. it is illeagal. Yet Canzano kept asking the question.

So why come on?

Did he mention anything about the Roy deal? I know he can't mention specifics, but like if he's on vacation?

He said "these things are complicated". Canzano then basically asked him how complicated offering Roy a max deal could be. Pritchard answered by saying that Roy would be in Portland for a long time without answering the question.

That's actually a pretty easy question, and KP balks at it.

Is Vulcan involved here?

nope. just talked about how roy will be here for a long time and the extension process is complicated

I know we'd all love news (especially GOOD news) but KP's job is about 95% make the team better and 5% make the fans happy in other ways.

The extension process IS complicated. Why should he (a) negotiate in the media, or (b) make Roy look bad in the media? All he can say, until they either sign him or he leaves, is that they want him and will make every reasonable effort to keep him. Does that say a LOT? No. But it's the only prudent position to take until Roy is signed or gone.

Lets concentrate on the steak and not the peas. Roy will be here, the extension will get done, what's the problem? Quit bitching like an infant. HE CAN'T COMMENT ON THE SPECIFICS.

Well Pritchard's not signing the checks. Someone else is involved in negotiations on the Blazers' side.

What did I "bitch" about in my post? I pointed out that Quick's article is likely spot on.

Pritchard said he's talking to Roy's and LMA's agents multiple times a day, and that he's not talking to the players because that is not how negotiations go when agents are involved. I got the impression he was the primary negotiator. :dunno:

Also, how hard is it to offer your two-time All-Star and franchise player a guaranteed max contract? Hedo Turkoglu was going to get 5 years at age 30, yet 25 year-old Roy only gets offered 4 years?

Didn't it get clarified earlier that Quick had it backwards and that ROY wanted the 4 years NOT KP? (This also makes sense unlike what Quick wrote as Roy would have more bargaining power as a 7 year vet and could make more money that way).
