Here's some scenarios I could see helping (as for their chances of happening I have no idea):

Miller, Travis and Rudy for Caron Butler and filler.

Miller, Travis and/or Rudy for Chalmers, Jones and filler

Miller, Webster, and/or Rudy for Battier, Lowry and filler

Ideally I think the Blazers would like to get a defensive minded point guard who can shoot a little and a wing who can either shoot really consistently from three or can handle the ball and create for himself a little while also being able to play D.

Whatever happens I don't expect KP to get everything he wants without parting with some fairly attractive pieces and to me that means Rudy is probably going to have to be very available, Travis' expiring deal will be needed and Miller will almost certainly be moved.

I think Battier would be perfect here, but I've said that before.

Hell, if two separate trades could be swung to end up with Battier AND Chalmers I'd be pretty happy. To that end I'd be willing to part with Miller, Bayless, Travis' expiring, Rudy and Webster ... pick your combination.

with Miami, maybe a swap of Martell and Rudy for Jones and Chalmers plus a lottery protected first or perhaps the draft rights to a guy like Claver or something.

Well I'd tend to agree on the fast break stuff, but if KP can somehow turn Miller into a solid defensive minded point guard and/or a wing defender who can hit shots then I would hope that the moves KP would make would be targeted at shoring up our woefully deficient perimeter D.

Ideally, I'd love to see Chalmers and Battier somehow snagged. With Batum added back to the mix in a few months, we (hopefully) go from having a sieve out there to 3 really aggressive, solid defenders with good length and good instincts to surround Brandon, LaMarcus and Greg.

Nate, most definitely. Unless he pulls some miraculous turnaround with his stubborn attitude and amateurish coaching, I want him gone.

I think KP knows what we all dont want to admit... unless we make a move for a quality SF or PF... maybe both... we aren't making the playoffs. Plain and simple.

And that would be a monster step back for this franchise. With Paul Allens health getting worse... there might start to be a sense of urgency for KP to right the ship. Perhaps Allen might say do whatever it takes to fix it. We have to replace outlaw with a scorer. We also need some defensive help. Im afraid KP needs to act with a sense of urgency.

Blake for Bass works, we need a banger backup PF and he's not playin much in Orlando.

You know, that ain't a bad idea for either team. Houston has a real problem delivering the ball to Yao. Adding a PG like Miller to direct the offense could work. Houston already has Ariza to play the "perimeter defender" role, so it's not a big loss.

Brooks is more of a SG anyway. He's undersized, but they could let Miller guard the SG's.

We could use Battier for spot minutes at backup PF when Batum comes back. Somewhere along the way we dump Webster.

Man--Battier, Aldridge and Oden at the 3/4/5 would be a defensive powerhouse.

As somebody who advocated the Miller signing, I'm not exactly eager to get rid of him, but I do recognize when something isn't working. For whatever reason, Dre in Portland has not been a good fit (Nate and he not seeing eye to eye on how to run the offense, Roy feeling out of sorts, whatever).

No matter what it's going to be a helluva lot easier to move Miller than it would be to move Roy, and even if you fired Nate and handed the reins fully over to Miller I'm still pretty dubious that he and Brandon would ever find a rhythm.

Maybe it's just the cut-and-run, 'surrender monkey', Democrat in me ...

All any of us have to go on is what we see in the games...and truth be told, we don't often see anywhere near as much as the pros who spend hours reviewing and dissecting game video. We also don't see practices where various combinations of players are actually played in various roles so that real information is gained as to which players work best together. All in all, I'd say most of the things expressed here, including my own, are based on way too little information and way too much opinion. It's a message board, so you expect to see this type of thing, but a bit more humility and respect, IMO, would be a good thing.

I know..."testing the waters" is what he gets paid for. He should always be looking for ways to improve the team -- especially in light of the fact the teams needs improving.

I don't claim to be any kind of expert, but I do recognize where the Blazers seem to be most deficient. To me that is perimeter defense and consistent outside shooting to help space the floor (two areas we were considerably better at a year ago IMO) To that end I think people are talking about the kinds of players who would help shore up those deficiencies, who's best and who would be the most complimentary I have no idea, but for people to see these things and wonder about who would help the team isn't being arrogant or disrespectful, it's just discussion and bouncing ideas off of other people.

Sometimes, though, the message board is right (even with its limited information) and management is wrong.

Draft Chris Paul over Webster.
Start Aldridge over Magloire.
Start Pippen at PG (and Damon at the far end of the bench).
Use Zach at PF and Sheed at C.
Don't pay big money to Theo Ratliff.
Zach and Rahim can't co-exist.
Portland can't "get out and run" with Nate as coach.
Take a flyer on drafting DeJuan Blair.

These were all pretty popular themes on the board that ran counter to what management seemed to think (or at least say publicly). But time proved us right.

Now you can also find a bunch of examples where the fans here are wrong (Draft the Stache!). I'm not saying we're always right.

But just given these examples off the top of my head, it's pretty clear to me that it's not arrogant to second-guess management even with our limited knowledge. They see a lot of things we don't, but I think sometimes we see some things they don't too.

I dunno...shouldn't the Blazers test Miller's worth on the court before testing his worth on the market?

Honestly, I don't understand this "It's not working out" idea. It hasn't really been tried yet. Maybe it won't work out. But if it's not even tried, I'd say it's the coach who "isn't working out."
