KP wrestling with failure - Roy and Aldridge talks stalled

Quick did say that word on the street is blah blah blah . . . so it sounds like more than speculation because Roy hasn't signed yet.

No matter what . . . there hasn't been a lot of good news for the Blazers this summer so far.

Reporters like Quick don't necessarily have inside sources with the Blazers, but I'm sure he has a rolodex (do people even still use those things?) with more than a couple names of agents, and NBA league office types who catch wind of what's going on behind the scenes -- at least in a general sense. My guess is that this "word on the street" talk is really "amongst the circle of agents and player representatives word is ..."

Whatever the case this is bad PR and either the agents are completely outmaneuvering KP in an attempt to stir up something or there really has been a snag because the two sides aren't coming to terms -- bottom line: Andrea Goddamn Bargnani just got inked to a five year extension worth fifty million dollars and not a whole lot of production to warrant that kind of deal, Aldridge and Roy have heretofore gotten nothing done, that's a fucking travesty.

I've defended Quick in the past, and I generally think he's a good writer and all with his Behind the Locker Room pieces, but he better have some justification for writing something like this. This isn't the type of thing you write about unless you 'know' something or were told something. This isn't some stupid Iavaroni piece... it's our franchise players.
But if it's true and has any substance.. I'm pissed at our organization.

Quick also appears to get played by more agents and "inside sources" than your average beat writer. All the trades he's talked about, Marc Ivaroni being our head coach, etc.

If Roy doesn't get extended this summer I would be SHOCKED. Once that day in October passes, I'll freak out, until then I'm going to stay cool. If/when we extend Roy in a couple weeks, some people should feel stupid for buying into this.

The only feasible explanation is that Roy wants a 4 year contract (player option for 4th year) and Quick got them mixed up and that Portland is wanting a 5th year.

I just can't imagine even the most incompetent of GMs wanting to sign your franchise all-nba player to a shorter contract. I mean not even McHale would do something that ridiculous.

I'm just going to have to chalk this up to being inaccurate reporting by Quick to save myself some sanity.

I thought the caution: raging melodrama was more pointed towards people freaking out over Quick's possible inaccurate report. I've never seen Ben openly question Quick/make sarcastic remarks about him like I have seen him just heap on Canzano (admittedly justified).

But I hope his comments are true as this is just horrifying to contemplate being true.

I believe they signed four year contracts but the 4th year is a player option. It is possible I am wrong on that though (similar to the LeBron/Wade/Bosh deals).

I have to think that this is just Quick capatilizing on the vocal minortity of internet grumblings about KP and fact that the Blazers haven't gotten around to signing their players yet to make a fabricated story. He needed some "facts" like the 4 years vs 5 years thing to make it sound credible, but he'll just say, "ah my source was wrong," later.

I just don't believe this story in any respect other than the fact that they aren't signed yet. Quick and Canzano going back to their old ways. They couldn't get away with mudslinging for a while, and they had to struggle to actually write well informed stories, but anytime they get a chance to base a story on sensationalism, they jump at it.

If this turned out to be true, I would be utterly flabbergasted. The stupidest GM in the league would sign Roy to a 5 year extension.

I agree with what you said, this is quick trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. I know Ben has a lot of respect for Quick and has defended him on many occasions. Still this might be the most bizarre thing I have ever heard from Quick.
