Exclusive Kris Murray Appreciation Thread

I think Murray will end up taking all of Yang's non-garbage-time center minutes. He's basically turned himself into a version of RoCo. He was always a smart basketball player and now he's found a niche that we need. Now, if Timelord ever gets healthy that would cut into his minutes, but only for a game or two before he gets injured again.

I think Kris is/has figured it out, his D is good and he just looks a lot more comfortable out there. I think announcers mentioned the new offense with a lot of movement/slashing really fits Kris and I agree. Here's to seeing this sustained

I caught some heat a couple of months ago when I posted that a Kris Murray who's even a slightly below-average shooter might make a big difference on this team. It's just that he's playable now. We're not playing 4-on-five when we have the basketball. The other parts of his game are good enough, but he might have been the worst shooter in the NBA up to now.

If he can make open shots and free throws, other teams have to play him honest. If they have to do that, our better scorers see less help defense.

It also means we can rest guys a few more minutes, which plays to the advantage of the style the Blazers are playing.

The style the Blazers play now might lowkey have helped him as much as anyone on the team, but that he can take advantage of that helps the team more than it might look like in the boxscore.

I've liked Kris since he was playing in Iowa....I took a lot of heat for cheering for him when we drafted him. He's going to be a solid contributor with a long career. I'm glad we have him. He said his growth this summer was mostly mental...not beating himself up as much. To all those who didn't think Grant or Murray were good players....I've got some crow in the freezer!

I do think Kris could be a solid player and maybe it was Billups maybe it was not maybe this was one of his handful of games a year where we go -- He might be coming around. Only time will tell but I am not rooting against him cause this team needs bench help but I am not running out buying a Murray Jersey either.

Murray has always looked decent to me. (as a role player) You could tell he had a high IQ, and he did everything well except shoot the 3-ball. I expect that part of his game to continue to get better as well. Older draft picks might have a lower ceiling than the younger ones, but that does not mean they won't improve.

I agree that this offense helps him and Grant, and Thybulle get more involved. And we need to give Chauncey some credit for recognizing it and hiring a staff that could implement it.

Hoping to see more of the same. Kris has always been a great character guy and knows how to play defense. With some confidence in his shot this season, I see him being a guy we lock down on a great long term deal. He’s a role player, I don’t see a reason he “bets on himself” unless it is a disrespectful offer.

More than anything, I love his length. I think this new tempo is going to help him overthink less.

He’s got the length on defense but I want to see more from him before I’m sold. Needs consistency and then it’s warranted.
