Krstic's cap hold...

I saw that his QO was roughtly 2.7M, but how do you calculate his cap hold going fwd now? Is it on 2.7M? If so the Nets are better off with him playing overseas for the next 3 years.

Are the Nets going to maintain his cap hold and keep his rights? I'd guess they'll not do that (and I dropped him from the Nets salary list but just re-added him back).

Cap holds are based on years of service and prior salary. Krstic was coming off his 4th year of a 1st round draft pick scale contract and made $1.889M. Since this is less than the league average salary, his cap hold will be 300% of his prior salary or $5.667M.

They are keeping his rights. Why not? They don't have space to sign a FA at the moment anyway.

At $5.667M, that is reasonable enough to carry fwd a few years if the Nets can shed salary elsewhere...

Why in the hell would the Nets not keep his rights?

This actually works out better for the Nets than trading him away. It allows Krstic to complete his rehab and recovery on another team's dime and the Nets the ability to get him back.

Plus he seems determined to come back to the NBA.

Maybe not with us, but if hes close to what he was, we should make out well in a deal w/ one of a half dozen teams

(Spurs, Heat, Bulls, Cavs, Sonics, Magic ect.)

Either way this is the best way for us to deal with this situation. If we were to keep him on our roster he would have difficulty getting minutes and he would not be able to get back to full strength at his own pace. If we were to trade him at this juncture, we would not be getting full value back assuming he would go on to return to form with another team. So this way with him in Europe he remains a valuable asset of ours as we can watch his progression as he looks to get back to where he was prior to the injury and based on that decide whether to bring him back to return to our team, trade him to another team at a time when we will receive better offers, or, if he is unable to overcome his recent troubles, we can simply choose not to continue to retain his rights.
