In the KVH scenario the Mavs hold on to the players that would have equalled Kidd's salary in the original deal. Since they then aren't cutting any money by sign and trading KVH, they would go over the luxury tax to sign Kidd. So instead of no change happening in salary, the Mavs pay $20 million for Kidd, and another $20 million due to the tax.

that doesnt make sense if they just sign KVH to what Devan George is making to make the deal work,

wouldnt it be just the 2.4 million plus Kidds contract“

why wouldnt they just include the original players in the deal except sub george for KVH?

From what I understand he only has to pay like an additional 5 million with the KVH scenario...not a deal breaker. Personally I think Dallas is gonna give George til Monday to decide and if he doesn't relent then option B featuring KVH will take place by tuesday at the latest. Cuban would wait til thursday but this trade effects the possible Mike Miller trade so I think Thorn wants to get it done sooner rather than later.

Pretty exciting time right now...Two potential blockbusters and an additional big deal. To think we're in negotiations with Indiana, Memphis and Dallas for seperate players...pretty crazy.

Here are the Mavericks contracts on the players Dallas has offered rounded to the nearest $1,000.

DeSagna Diop: $2,146,000
Maurice Ager: $974,000

That comes to $13,865,000.

So if the Mavericks signed Van Horn to a contract for $1,985,000, that would bring them to the total needed to trade for Kidd.

Sources say the Mavericks have yet to offer the option to the Nets and have been working hard today to try and convince George to waive his no trade clause. But for the Nets, having to pay the prorated share of Van Horn's $1,985,000 deal would not be that much different than the prorated portion of George's $2,360,000 deal. And it serves the same purpose to give the Nets a contract that expires after this season.

The unknown in this is New Jersey GM Rod Thorn, who is one of the toughest negotiators in the league. Again, however, it's hard to believe the two teams would be so close to a trade and not be able to work out a deal.

I have always thought Marc Stein was a weasel, but he has done the best job covering this trade, IMO.

that's what I thought at first, too, but as I posted in the other thread, the nets wouldn't have the roster space to keep Wright (or Armstrong) unless they made that 2-for-1 for Mike Miller.

I think they'll make that trade. Memphis want's it and it makes sense for us. Boki, Mags and a first for Mike Miller.

Great things, no doubt. But when I think of a team, I want to think of the players, their records, not their owner, how many fines he has, and how often he'll run on the court.
