OT Lakers are in advanced discussions to try to bring China star Yi Jianlian back to the NBA

Good to see the Lakers land a guy who's 7ft and 135lbs

to add further, Shaq was 344, Yao Ming was 311 and Lebron is 249.

This guy is really underweight.

Now that all the former Laker bandwagon fans have officially left to be Clippers and Warriors fans (for now), they need to appeal to the huge Chinese market for jersey and merchandise sales.

Shrewd business move, shitty basketball move (but it's not like it will matter, they will suck equally hard with, or without, Yi).

BNM

I hope he gets voted into the All-Star game by the fans so that the NBA has to do something different in regards to voting.

NBA All Star Voting is the biggest farce in all of sports. Fans are not unbiased and are crazed. To allow us to choose anything is straight stupid. It will always be a biased vote by the masses...

I completely disagree with you. Fans have so little say in all of professional sports. Nothing wrong with letting them have who they want in the all star game. Fans get no say in All League teams, MVP, MIP, none of the awards. Coaches still get to pick bench players.

Thank God fans don't get a vote in real awards lol

It was all right when it was one ticket = one vote. Once they opened up online and internatinal voting, it went in the shitter...

I completely disagree with you. Fans don't need a say. PLAYERS should get to vote for the All Star team. Then there will be FAR less bias. Hell, keep the coaches out too.

I'm seeing one debatable choice on each team. Kobe on the West, Carmelo on the East. While I don't like Kobe I see nothing wrong with fans wanting to see him play one last time. Carmelo? Meh. But looking at the starters I would say fans got it 80% right. I doubt the teams would be much different if coaches or GMs picked the starters. Doesn't seem like it's in the shitter to me.

The thing is, if fans DO vote in Yi to the All-Star game as a bench scrub then they DO deserve to get their vote taken away. Simple as that. I am not commenting about past choices (although there are certainly some I can quibble with).

Why? We buy the tickets and jerseys. We watch the games. We can't have one game where we get to select who plays? We don't get a say in where and how the games are broadcast. We don't get a say in what fucking ads they're going to put on the jerseys.

It's one game. I'm just not seeing the outrage in letting fans have this tiny say.

If Yi were voted in he'd be a starter.

Really? You don't think fans would have voted Curry MVP and Kerr COY?
I'm not 100% sure. There are some dumb fans, I may be one of them too cause I wouldn't have voted Kerr, Stotts and Stevens were more worthy.

Well, the players that get snubbed that have all-star bonuses in their contracts probably have some legit beef with fans.

I disagree with you along with Wook and Dviss etc. I think there is a REASON the other sports don't allow fans to vote on stuff, because they are smarter than the NBA and know fans are jaded and biased.

Yes the Fans will get it right most of the time, but when All star appearances and starts are notches towards making the HOF, then it is a serious issue when a better player is left off the starting lineup simply because he is less popular.
Makes no sense any way I think about it and I think most other sports already got it down.

I don't disagree that its cool to provide the fans with something, but lets make it something that doesn't have an impact on the players' ability to get into the HOF.

How about the fans vote on WHERE the all star is held and it cant be the same place in any 5 year span?

Id be all down for that, rather than who starts.
There are many ways to reward the fans without impacting the players long term stature.

No, they should have a beef with their agents. Lillard got a big boost for making the all league team. Not making the AS team had no effect on his new contract.

Baseball and hockey allow the fans to vote.
