Lakers @ Blazers Game Thread

Great win. Shame on anybody who thought we wouldn't bring our A game tonight. Portland hates the Lakers, and the Blazers hate the Lakers. I had no doubt we'd come out hard tonight. The crowd made it a playoff atmosphere and the Lakers shrivled.

Props to Joel & Outlaw. Clutch. Roy is the man and Batum played great D. Lamarcus was tough on the glass. Great game all around for us.

Rudy seems like he's going to be ok. Hopefully there's nothing broken or strained.

I don't remember anyone saying Portland wouldn't bring their A game, I think it was more that the Lakers would bring theirs. Throw in the Kobe factor, the refs, (he does tend to get a lot of close calls late in games) and I didn't feel good about us winning. But then that's why I don't bet.

Now on the positive side.......... Great, Smart defense tonight. Loved it.

If you are Gasol and you just watched one of your teammates hurt him badly.... what do you do? I'm sorry but friends come before teammates and I would have knocked Ariza the fuck out.

....

How do you know Ariza is not a friend though?

Outlaw was fantastic, but Batum's "-3" came during garbage minutes. Before that he had a "positive" impact. Just wanted to point that out.

Batum was +2 before he came back in with the game already decided. I think that +/- is basically a worthless stat on a one-game basis, but with the way that poster was bashing Outlaw, I had to post it.

i was at the game today and hooooooooooly shit i wanted to throw a huge rock from nose bleeds all the way to trevor ariza's face.... fuck that guy! cant feel throat from screaming so much.... was a little worried when the lakers got almost as much yelling when they came out for shoot around.... good thing the Rose garden drowned them out...

Not sure how to feel after this one. An amazing buttkicking they put on the Lakers.

But Rudy... I honestly wasn't even thinking it was a flagrant foul, not just in real time but through the entire Laker broadcast. But I just saw the replay on SportsCenter and that was a fucking bitch move by Ariza. He swung VERY hard and while I'm sure he wasn't meaning to put the guy in a stretcher, there was some serious attitude behind that swing. A definite ejection.

FUCK ARIZA and FUCK THE LAKERS.

Fucking bullshit. Can it really be just a coincidence as to how many people they injure? With each injury I find it harder and harder to believe. Maybe they are the anti-Christ.

P.S. The Laker announcers called Travis, Charles... again.

Plus, instead of going to see if Rudy is OK, Ariza immediately starts taunting the Blazer players like a god damned lunatic. Eff that guy. I have a new player to hate, and he's a scrub on the Lakers.

Actually the thing I was happiest about was how the team responded after that cheap shot. Aldridge, Roy, and Outlaw all jumped right into it.

The physical beat down our front line put on them tonight was exceptional. Considering they were double teaming Aldridge all night before he even got the ball, I thought he had a pretty successful offensive night.

Roy was Roy. Enough said.

Now if they can just carry this aggressiveness to the next game, and beyond.

I loved it when Batum dunked on Gasol and held up two fingers :D

Travis Outlaw is making me eat my words lately. He looks so much better out there on the court. It's like he knows what he wants to do and then he does it.

He's simply a very good scorer.

Perfect weapon off the bench.

Something I have just been thinking about. Bayless just became very important to this team. With Rudy down, there is no doubt in my mind that the Blazers are going to need Bayless to play very solidly down the stretch. Especially with Martell out too, otherwise he would step in. Here's to throwing another rookie into the fire!:devilwink:

LA fans are saying they want to face the Blazers in the payoffs

Be careful what you wish for.

Portland matches up well with LA. They don't have a speedy point guard to torment the Blazers with the same way NO, SA and Dallas do. LA hasn't beat Portland at home since Roy came into the league. Not sure if that is what I would hope for. Game seven is a crap shoot no matter where it is played.

haha.. that was great. And they showed it on SportsCenter, and replayed Nicolas posterizing Pau in LA. That is one smart Frenchie.

Anyone else think Roy was the guy who looked like the 2nd best player in the NBA tonight (behind King James, of course)?

Roy is a bonafide superstar. I can't wait to see what he does in the playoffs.

Fucking hell. My internet connection died with 8 mins to go in the fourth, and I had to call some friends in PDX to turn on the speakerphone and put it next to a radio so I could follow Wheels. Too bad I missed the game from the 8 min mark in the fourth to the 1 min mark.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I think he is MVP good.

I'm not sure if he is the kind of guy to put up the stats required to be MVP. Especially once Aldridge and Oden become bigger threats on offense.

However, I do think he will win a few Finals MVPs in his career.

Brandon is amazing. The perfect superstar to lead our team. I still remember people thinking he was expendable at the beginning of the year when Rudy was tearing it up.. no offense to Rudy, but people who thought trading Roy was a good idea... ouch.

No doubt about it. I'm honestly surprised at how good he has become. What is his "ceiling" now?

In a way, I hope he's reached it. Part of him increasing his scoring has been a decrease in assists. In particular, he almost never drives and dishes anymore, once he gets near the rim he's shooting it, for better or for worse. I'd hate to see him up his shot attempts even more because that'd likely decrease his efficiency, and his efficiency as a scorer is what makes him such a special player.

Nicolas with attitude + a refined game in a couple of years is going to be a seriously scary player ... assuming his offense comes along (which I'm sure Monty will make sure of).
