This is so glorious that it deserves it's own thread!

Free Agency is off to a great start!

For real though, wtf are they doing? $16M per year for Mozgov...

If Mozgov is getting $16M per year then I have no sense whatsoever of what this years free agent market is...

I would rather have him at 16M per than Bazemore at 20M per. But both are mind boggling.

Pretty telling for what Meyers should expect....If Meyers is offered 12 million a year, I think we match in this new world.

Wow, just wow. Absolutely baffled.

Bazemore is still young and brings more to the team.

The Lakers could've saved cap space and chased free agents next year in a better class with less competition.. but they signed fucking Mozgov lmao. Talk about the opposite of Olshey's "career arc" principle...

Lakers got desperate

There is a big man tax for anyone who can half way play. Mozgov rates high in a lot of defensive charts and metrics. Bazemore has only had 1 good year and there are a lot of 3 and D guys who can do exactly what he can.

I like Mozgov. But I was thinking about 12 per.......

A year ago, he looked worth it. This year, he hardly played in games I watched. Did he fall off that much or did Lue just not care to put him in?

CLE played small ball most of the year with Tristan Thompson at Center.

Does anyone else have a feeling of imminent doom with the NBA and these gigantic contracts? Maybe I don't know enough about business, but it feels like this is setting a bad precedent for if/when the TV deal runs out. Massive salaries with players not wanting to take less once the CBA needs to be redone. Am I over thinking things?

I guess the Lakers saw what Olshey did last year in signing under the radar players and getting into the second round. They decided to follow that approach and just sign random dudes.

That's sort of a rephrasing of what I said. :) Still doesn't answer the question of why Lue didn't play him. Is he the same impact big of a year ago?

The TV money is driving this. It is still projected to be booming in 4 years so unless it drops I think the players are fine. Someday this will come to a head like you say but it might be further off then you think.

I believe so but going to be hard to tell on a shit Lakers team.

Damn. I got a feeling we are going to see a lot of max contracts thrown around. There is just not a ton of talent out there and not a lot of suitors. Lot of lunches being bought.

If there was any fear that the Lakers had turned the corner and were back on the road to respectville, this squelched that fear.

...In the first hour of free agency? Lmao. They're not a destination anymore and this is proof.

I think the NBA is becoming a global game (look at the draft class this year and how much hype it gets in Olympics). With NBA being the premier league, players are starting to become paid like soccer players, where these salaries are not uncommon.

There are a lot of advertising dollars in the NBA though. And I don't think fat lazy americans are going to be watching less TV anytime soon. If the market for the nba does tank, player salaries would just go back down. But they'd still be making 10000x as much as they'd get if they had a real job.
