I recall some people seeking out a trade of L-Train for Bosh. He has really amped up his game past the all-star break and this is a regular trend for LMA. He is better and younger than Bosh. To be fair to Bosh, he is not a guy who can carry a team, let alone that Toronto team, but they should be better than what they are. I just like how LA responds as the season progresses, and he is clutch.

I think the only PF's better than LA for THIS season are Duncan, Dirk, and KG. I put him on par with Amare but would take him over STAT due to his chemistry with the team and lack of drama. I say Al Jeff and Dwight are centers.

In just a short span of time, he will be the premier PF in the game. We got a good thing going.
 
I am not sure how many people have noticed this. But in every game where the Blazer have reached a struggling point, Lamarcus comes out with energy and makes plays. Even if he doesn't have the ball. Even if he has to slap Kevin Garnett upside the head. The only times he really stops scoring now, is when he isn't in the game, or when the team forgets about him. Top it off with the fact his rebounding has gone through the roof, and he is blocking shots, and I ask


Do you miss Zbo now? Do you really?
 
I also felt that trading Aldridge for Bosh would have been a pointless move. I still have faith that LMA will be one of the best power forwards in the west. He might not ever be a super star because of how many scorers we have on our team, but I think he could easily be an All-Star.
 
Averaging 8.9 rebounds in the last 10, including the concussion period.
 
LaMarcus has really stepped up his game since the all-star break (concussion and its aftermath aside) but I don't know how useful it is to get into player X > player Y comparisons.

I'm just happy LMA is showing he's capable of being an aggressive inside presence (at both ends) and is bringing it night and night out.

Aldridge has been coming on strong. I was a bit dismayed earlier this season at how little he had improved (on offense/rebounding) over last season, but he's been much better of late. I think that while this season hasn't been hugely better than last season, he might be ready to make a big leap next season.

And his defense has improved over last year.

Bosh is still a bit better in terms of scoring/rebounding, but Aldridge's defense might make up the gap.
 
I think one thing that is worth looking at there, is Bosh is relied on to carry that team from night to night. He is an excellent player, but who else do they go to? Look across the roster, and there just isn't another threat that scares you there. You double L-Train and who does he pass to? Brandon Roy.

Aldridge is the #9 offensive rebounder in the league.
 
I think Bosh is more consistent. Doesn't take AS many jumpshots. When LMA is off, he's off...

Pau has been playing like this since he joined the Lakers. He was great after he was traded to LA last season.
 
I think he's our best overall player now. His rebounding has improved, his defense, his offensive repertoire, his understanding of player movement and placement.

I think he'll need bigger statistical games to become an all-star however, unless we move into the top 3 of the West. I think his season high is only 29-tonight.

you missed the point of my post. he named a list of pfs who are playing better than lma this season, and didnt include pau. i was just saying since no1 else had in the thread, that he forgot to list him.
 
bosh never impresses me when i see him play. aldridge has played amazingly the last 2 months.

We got jack shit in terms of value for Zach.

Even the Knicks did better in getting immediately expiring contracts. Portland had to eat a massive amount of Francis's deal (without getting any on-court value) and got a worthless Channing Frye. We also got the cap exception that we used to get Rudy, but I'm not convinced that we could not have otherwise acquired the draft rights to him.

Portland got negative value for Zach, and the Knicks managed to get expiring contracts.

So, while I don't miss Zach, I still think the deal was a mistake for Portland.

Cute, another poster (a producer at that!) who we all know doesn't watch the games, either.

Or at least doesn't know basketball.

Aldridge has added a certain level of physicality to his game this year unmatched offensively by no one on our team and on defense only by Pryzbilla.
 
LaMarcus just needs to learn to be able to put the ball on the floor and drive - this will help him get to the line more which will only benefit our team as a whole.
 
The difference(mainly) between Aldridge and Bosh, is Bosh has a much better ability to get to the FT line. Bosh doubles Aldridge's amount of FTA's. Since his rookie year, Aldridge has marginally improved in this area. When your shot isn't falling the next best thing is taking it to the rim and get foul shots. The thing is, LaMarcus' game is akin to shooting the little elbow jumpers, turn-around fadeaways, and baby hooks. It's weird to me that we haven't seen a slight increase in FTA's a game when Aldridge's low post game is much improved(at least IMO).

In rebounding they're even, I might even give Aldridge the slight edge. Reason being, is that Aldridge plays on one of the slowest pace teams in the league. Rebounding Rate adjusts for this, however Aldridge also plays on one of the best rebounding teams in the NBA. Portland 2nd while Toronto is 25th http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/teamstats?sort=rr&seasonType=2&league=nba) So while Aldridge doesn't rebound at a higher rate than Bosh he doesn't give up that many either. My point is, it's harder to get your rebounding numbers with the rebounding vacuum known as Pryzbilla.:lol:

Defensively Aldridge is extremely effective with his constantly "active" hands. Always tipping balls to teammates or slapping it out of guys hands as they go up to what "appear" to be easy lay-ins/dunks. In our type of defense, Aldridge has to have the lateral quickness to stay with smaller forwards/guards as we're always switching on the picks. He's been extremely good at forcing quicker and smaller players into tough shots. He has longer arms than Bosh and he uses his length to make it extremely hard for people to shoot over him. I haven't watched enough of Bosh to make a fair assessment of him, but from what I've seen he's not a horrible defender but not great either.

In summary, I would love for Aldridge to get to the line more as he's a terrific FT shooter for a big man, but I just don't know if his game is conducive to doing that. Also if we ran some more fastbreaks, especially when he's in the second unit because he's one of the fastest PF's in the game.

Regarding LMA's FT attempts: Aside from LaMarcus' natural inclination to pick n' pop or shoot a fadeaway jumper his first two years in the league, his handle still is nowhere nearly as developed as it needs to be; it's much better this year after a summer spent doing nothing but working on it, but until he's more comfortable moving with the dribble it's going to be tough for him to get to the line consistently.

Right now the handle and fluidity of movement with the dribble is the main thing I see separating Bosh from LMA.

Right on the money. Bosh can attack the rim facing up off the dribble, Aldridge can not.

On the other hand - Aldridge is already a better post-up player than Bosh and a better defender.

Love Bosh - but Aldridge is a beast and anyone who thinks that a guy that already has all these moves he has will not develop his face-up off-the-dribble game is crazy.

LMA will be a max or close to max contract guy as soon as the team extends him this summer, so that's not really all that relevant.

it certainly is relevant. even if aldridge is maxed bosh would cost 40+ million more over the next 5 (including in a conservative amount of extra luxury tax).
 
Nothing about last night's game told me LaMarcus is a softie anymore. He was in the paint, rebounding and outmuscling and took advantage of his mismatch against Barnes on the post all night long.
He wasn't afraid to take it in against Shaq and drew some physical fouls.

LaMarcus is playing at an All-Star level right now, and it's scary to think he's only 23 years old.
 
I have a +/- linear regression using data since 2005. It has Bosh better but it seems to show that LMA might be underrated, especially defensively. This is an overall rating of all years combined, equally weighted. I don't do a current year only because this technique requires huge sample sizes in order to become reliable.
