It’s always tough for me to find that balance where I want to tell [Damian] not to do this or this is better,” Aldridge says. “But I don’t want him to feel like I’m trying to hold him back from being who he wants to be. I do regret not talking to him at times, but also I feel like he was trying to find himself.

I would say him and I have learned more about each other since I left that would’ve helped us when I was there, so I’ve learned from that and I’m trying to be better and not worry if I come off a certain way, because I feel like when people know who I am as a person, they know I have no ill will. I’m more reserved, so I didn’t want to come off as trying to stifle his shine. I just got back in the corner and let him do his thing...I feel like if him and I communicated as much then as we do now, then things would’ve been totally different.”

I know people still hate this guy but this is a pretty in depth article on Aldridge that shares some pretty interesting insights about him and Dame.

He sounds like he has a bit of regret about leaving but he regardless of what he says, he still comes off as insecure.

Those are some great pull quotes. I wouldn't die if he came back for the last year of his contract in a deal that let us dump a bunch of deadweight.

The article says he met with Portland during his free agency NBA world tour... But I remember him refusing to meet with the team, then Dame calling him and offering to fly down to meet with him in person in Los Angeles to try and convince him to resign, and he refused that as well... am I imagining that?

I also don’t remembered us trying to trade him two times like he said.

He does. It sounds like he's saying if he'd been better able to handle the interpersonal communication with Dame, he may not have left.

If you can't get along with Dame, it's on you. Not Dame.

I suspect LMA just saw Dame as another Roy, who I think was not nearly the leader and teammate that Lillard is, and started to just project all those insecurities that he had when he was third fiddle on the Roy/Oden team.

I have always been a strong LA supporter. He was a quite, keeps to himself kinda’ guy. That would sometimes come off as him not wanting to talk to anybody or seeming smug.
That said, didn’t he say the same things about B-Roy?

Ah, you're just an athletic supporter in general, HCP.

It's interesting there are no quotes from his current teammates or coaching staff. Even the Pop comments are from an interview done prior with another publication.

It is interesting that all of his former coaches and teammates (high school coach, Nate, Vanterpool, RoLo) that they did interview spoke extremely highly of Aldridge - especially his work ethic.

Vanterpool better be careful:

"Vanterpool spent the surrounding 25 minutes of our interview gushing about how awesome Aldridge was to coach"

That may be enough to get him fired by a front office that may still be butt hurt over losing Aldridge.

BNM

If you think that's true, that If he and Dame had had better communication he'd have stayed....

Why did he QUIT on us in the playoffs???

Riiiiiiight....

I got nothing to say about LMA. He didn't owe us anything. But (AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT) we don't owe him anything. No retired number. No wistful remarked about days gone by. It's over. His legacy is the Spurs completely.

I think people assume that athletes can't be "on the spectrum" and I think that's just clearly false, and I wouldn't be surprised if Aldridge was. (My prime candidate: Harold Miner.)

His work ethic didn't stop him from quitting on us...
