What Michael Jordan really thought of Clyde Drexler, per Craig Hodges

“Not every great athlete is marketable,” the former Bulls talent said. “I remember having a conversation one time, it was like four of us, MJ included. And the conversations came up about Clyde Drexler. And MJ said this: ‘Clyde Drexler is just as good as me. He just don’t know how to play the game.’

“And we ain’t talking about basketball.”

Praise, and then a slam from Jordan on Clyde. As much as i have a dislike for MJ, i agree with him on Drexler. Drexler was so athletically gifted. I remember hearing Mychal Thompson( atleast i think it was him) saying Clyde told him once, he was as fast as Carl Lewis. I know this, he had incredible straightline speed. I know Kiki tried to work with Clyde on that ugly outside shot, but it only helped so much. Clyde was an incredible competitor. You could see the desire in his eyes. But it seemed like Clyde relied too much on that athleticism. I remember Terry Porter shooting practice shot after practice shot to improve his %. It worked. Dame does the same thing to perfect his craft. But Clyde's shot never changed. Maybe Clyde worked on it, maybe he didn't, but it just didn't seem like Clyde's game ever changed. And i'm sorry Clyde, i don't give a rip about those Rockets. Don't get me wrong, i loved Clyde when he was a Blazer. It just would be nice to hear Clyde have extensive talks about his Blazer years. Like Bill Walton. Not just a few things here or there.
