I want to make something clear right now I DID not put in Sly name i was calling out Chris in PDX not sure how this happened even though I have an idea but i will deal with that end off the forum with Sly and this site

Sorry Sly this happened and anyone who reads this wanted to clear the air

I changed the post to my name as a friendly reminder to stop with the personal insults, lol.

It's like clockwork. We haven't had Blazer basketball in a few months, Summer League just whets the appetite of long-suffering Blazer fans that the abuse-ee starts to rationalize in their head "Well, MAYBE Billups is the right choice? Maybe the team WILL discover how to defense!" and "Carmelo and Kanter were the real pieces holding the Blazers back!" and "McLemore and Zeller will make the difference off the bench!".

And every year nothing changes, still a middling-level team whose ceiling is the WCF if everything falls into place.

If I was Lillard, I'd be shipping for homes in New York or Philly.

1/10 for originality- I've read this same post from 50 other folks.
0/10 for Grammar and spelling
2/10 on the troll attempt.

What an abysmal post.

I’ll be honest, after this summer’s draft and summer league and off season acquisitions…… How can you NOT think we are going to make a HUGE jump!?!? I mean, maybe even 45 wins and a first round exit if we’re lucky……wait a sec……. Seems like we’ve been here before.
Yep. Another first round exit for Lakers.

I jammed once out on the farm 20 years ago but he wasn't there...I knew Ken mostly form N. California and the Sierra's in the 70s..Gary Snyder was my neighbor

Philip Whalen was my grandma’s brother.

Won't bother reading the rest of the replies what you said is simply spot on!

That's so cool...he was a big zen dude as I remember.....Gary and Masa were big on Zen.....from a character in a Kerouc novel to a Zen master....quite a life!

I got to have a beer with him at Chez Ray's pub in Eugene about a year before he passed...he and I were the only guys at the bar and he was talking with Chez Ray...I met him a few times in my life at Gary Snyder's cabin
My only Kesey story: We were watching a movie on TV and it was really confusing, I think because the name was different than the novel. I think only stoned people would think it was confusing. It might have been something else, like they changed the rivers or something. We were so curious that we picked up a phone book and looked up his number and called. The missus answered and was very kind to explain things to us, so we could get back to enjoying the movie.

If it was Sometimes a Great Notion...it was filmed not far from where I live over the pass .near Swiss Home and Mapleton..Florence...Michael Sarandon starred in that film with Henry Fonda, Paul Newman and Lee Remick

You think the Blazers will win more than 45 games and get past the first round? After the key acquisitions made during the draft and free agency?

I was thinking something similar, a few months ago how disappointed I would be if no changes happened, and now myself and others are accepting it.

I do want to see how Billups works as the coach, we've never seen another coach in the Dame era. This is also the most talented 5th starter we've had since the LaMarcus team and I'd argue now the 5th player is superior to Rolo.

Yes there are major questions about Powell as a SF. Yes there are major questions about the bench. Yes there are major questions about the Dame/CJ duo ever being a contender. Yes there are questions Dame will still ask out. Yes there are questions if Billups is an upgrade 0r if Stotts was better than many thought.

I do like that we still have future picks, at least we haven't gambled on the future of the team. Nothing would be worse than a 2013 Nets fan seeing draft picks of Tatum and Brown go to another team.

Now if the team doesn't look good by January it might be time to either trade for an all star or if not available end this run and trade Lillard. Yes I will be sad we never built a contender around Lillard, but it will be a realization it just isn't going to happen in the next few years. It's better to get an enormous haul of young assets for Lillard to hopefully lead to a contender 7-10 years than waste years of Lillard aging into his 30's with no improvement for the future.

We owe one half season to Lillard to see if this roster can be molded into anything. If not we either sell the farm to get him help or move on and wish him well elsewhere.

We will miss what Kanter brought to our team. REALLY miss it.

I loved what Kanter did for the Blazers in filling in this past season for Nurk while he was out. The Blazers don't make the playoffs without him. That said, his lack of mobility on defense made him unplayable against the Nuggets. He's a great teammate, a great rebounder, and a really good offensive big, but he sucks on defense. On top of that, the $2.7 million contract he signed with the Celtics would have put the Blazers over the tax line. If they're going to do that, it needs to be for a guy who is likely going to be more than your 3rd string center.

Kanter was signed using the vet minimum exception....meaning the cap charge for the Celtics for Kanter (1.67M) is the same as Portland's cap-charge for Zeller

Good point. Where are the Blazers at cap-wise? I’m not keeping score at this point. Could they have added both Zeller and Enes and still had any space to use the TPMLE? I think the answer is no, but I’m sure you know better.

This is one of the first times in a long time I have very low expectations for the Blazers coming into the season.

I feel like our bench depth at least in terms of putting the ball through the hoop has got worse. I also feel that playing Powell at the 3 is going to be tough defensively.

If only we could trade for Barnes and have Powell be our super sub still playing 30 mpg.....

Yes. Using the TPMLE does not have any restrictions on it.

If a team uses the BAE or the Full MLE, they are hard-capped at ~$6M above the tax line.

as long as the Blazers don't hard-cap themselves they could have signed both Zeller and Kanter to minimum deals. That would have put them at 14 players so yes, they could have still used the TPMLE on another player

What I won't miss is knowing there's a 17-4 run coming every time he plays in the playoffs. Zeller is better in almost every aspect outside of rebounding (but Zeller is really good in that area and it isn't as big of a gap as many think).

Where is @Homer Loves Koolaid?
probably playing drums with the Scottish bagpipe troupe or playing golf....great guy. I drove down to Creswell and had a couple beers with him at a golf tournament he was playing in. I think he told me he was the drummer for the Nelson Riddle big band at one point or maybe it was Lawrence Welk...he's one of the funniest people to ever post in S2.....one day the humor died off and he was outta here.Homer and jlprk provided me with the biggest laughs I've ever had around here.

Great points, but is our backup center this season better than him? I am being dead serious when I tell you I don’t even know WHO our backup center is.
