Layman to T-Wolves

No we can't. We're over the tax apron so we're not allowed to bring a player in with a sign and trade.

you might want to clarify that the Blazers can trade for a player(s) using the TPE, just no S&T

and you'll probably have to answer it 7 or 8 times going by the way things go around here. I mean, doesn't Portland still have their tax-MLE?

I’m not clear what the point of this was. We can’t do much with the TPE. It’d have made more sense if it was for the full amount of Jake’s salary.

We’ve got a year to use it. The Blazers may not be over the apron or even the LT by this time next year.
He was talking about specifically doing the same thing Minnesota just did. Next summer if we're under the cap the TPE would go bye bye anyway. We can use it to bring in a player that wasn't a free agent this summer and fits into the amount.

can't do much with a 1.8 TPE but I'm still questioning where the hell that number came from. I'm thinking it should be north of 3.5M, which is a usable TPE

HCP tried so hard to be the first to report this that he messed up the thread title:roflmao:
I have a career kid. Work for a living. Don't really have time to try to be the "first to do anything" around here to be honest.

Isn’t there a cap hold for the rights to unsigned players? I figure this reduces the exemption...

Ok, I just have to point out that this is a ridiculous amount of turnover. Tolliver says he’s excited about joining “a contender,” but when you lose seven players in the off-season, are you even the same team anymore? We were contenders with those seven players, but what are we without them? Who knows.

You know what dumping Jake for Hezonja reminds me of? Dumping Connaughton for Stauskas. I heard so many arguments about how we were a much better spot for Stauskas than his previous spots, and how our system would make him a useful player while Pat would struggle elsewhere because our system helped him out as well.

Connaughton was great for Milwaukee last year and Stauskas' numbers here were NO BETTER than any other stop on his journey. Now Stauskas is on his way out of the league.

Ok, I just have to point out that this is a ridiculous amount of turnover for an NBA team. Tolliver says he’s excited about joining “a contender,” but are we? When you lose six players in the off-season, who the hell are you now? We were contenders with those six players, but what are we without them? Who knows.
Everyone knows we're a much better team than last year.

None of the "players" that left can consistently hit a 3 pointer, except for one who didn't know where he was half the time. Opposing teams ignored them to double our guards in a literal attempt to suck the life out of them. It worked, Lillard was crazy tired in the 2nd round, and was simply exhausted in the WCF.

We're losing more than 6:

Layman
Turner
Meyers
Harkless
Kanter
Curry
Aminu

Why only a $1.8M TPE...?

his number for the TPE doesn't make sense. If Jake is getting an 11.5M deal with 5% raises, the TPE should be over 3.5M

My understanding is you get the TPE for what he was on your books, not what the new team signed him for in the trade.

He is light for PF. So is Hezonja.

According to Mario, he was 6'6", 195 when he was drafted and is now 6'9", 240 lbs. That is 25 lbs he's got on Jake who is listed at 215. Not saying Hezonja is a PF but that's quite a bit of difference. Hezonja has filled out quite a bit in that last couple of years.

For the 1st time in a long time, the Blazers are gonna look a lot different. I think this year will tell you a ton about Stotts. I know your feelings there, I think one could argue that some of the problems could have been roster related and not just Stotts. With so many new pieces and basically a new team around Dame and CJ, we’ll learn a lot about if it was limitations due to the roster or just Stotts.

Are we? On paper, maybe, but this new collection of guys hasn’t played a single minute together yet. It’s going to be very interesting to watch this team jell and learn to play together. I give credit to Olshey for taking some chances and swinging for the fences, but this is really a major overhaul, and who knows how it’s going to turn out?

Am almost positive it's for the amount he signs for.

there's a cap-hold for unsigned 1st round picks but Boblan was a 2nd round pick. No cap-holds on them. Until they are signed, draft picks hold no nemerical value in trades. So no, it wouldn't impact the TPE

Ah, that makes a lot more sense now.

Exactly

sigh. A terrible argument. Unfortunately, I've heard it before and refuted it many times - too tired to yet again.

Good point. I haven’t done the numbers after all the trades. If over the Apron you’re right...though technically we aren’t until the moratorium lifts, right? ;)

.

Layman wasn't "on the books anymore" except as a cap-hold. His contract expired on June 30. Layman didn't accept his QO so he was a free agent.

teams trade contracts and until Layman had a signed deal, he was untradeable. Once he signed his deal, then the TPE for trading him was his current salary which should have been over 3.5M

the only way that TPE can be as low as 1.8M is if somehow Tolliver was added to the deal
