I gotta admit, when I saw the hit this morning I really didnt think it was terrible. I didnt see it live because it happened at what 1am, but I watched it a few times and I dont think it was as dirty as people were making it sound.

The injury occurred because McDonagh had just reached out to play the puck. His left arm was extended and got crushed between himself and the boards. This is exactly what happened to Gaborik in the OTT series. Burrows did get his arms up a little bit but didnt get him in the head and I dont think that had anything to do with the end result. He did lead a little bit with the elbow which is a bush league move, but it was close. Even if it was all shoulder it would have been the same result.

I still would have liked to see him answer for it because that's what youre supposed to do when your star player gets rocked, but I think I have to agree with Shanny here. Jesus I cant believe I said that.

Watching it live your first reaction is dirty hit because you're upset he got hurt, but it wasn't overtly dirty, just unfortunate McD went in a bit awkwardly. I figured it wasn't a separation or anything major, just a bad bruise.

agree with Prod and 71.. I watched the hit on Youtube and didn't think it was that dirty, certainly not dirty enough to warrant a suspension. McD was not facing the boards and it was more of a side hit than anything. Being in a vulnerable position you'd like to see the opposing player not make that hit, but it's still not dirty.

i think the time in the game had more significance then anything else, early in game he would have been fined for trying to take out rangers best player, MAYBE!! lol

thought it was an overreaction and the only reason people were up in arms is because it resulted in a injury to our best player on the blue line...it wasn't a cheap shot...it wasn't head hunting..there was no intention there...just unfortunate that his arm was in a bad position

The ref that gave him a 5 minute major and game misconduct doesn't agree with you

The league didn't say it wasn't a penalty. They just said they didn't think it warranted a suspension.

Man, I wish I could have that discipline job from shanny for a year. Every headshot starts at minimum 5 games and each additional headshot adds 10 games to the last suspension total. Only way these players and I assume teams who don't want to lose said player for multiple games get the message and cease with this.
