Leaked Windows 9 screenshots

Let's put it this way. I would never, and have never, run Windows without a virus checker full time and doing frequent malware scans. I've never run those things on my macs, nor a defragmenter. My computers have not slowed to a crawl after 4 years of use and no fresh OS installs.

With my old windows machines, I'd reinstall the OS every so often because the more it got used, the slower the system became.

I also never have problems uninstalling software. Just drag the app to the trash and it's gone. I don't have to go hunt for dlls or .ini files it might have left in numerous places in the filesystem.

In 2005 I bought the top of the line MacPro tower. It lasted up until last year and that's only because the new OS wasn't supported any longer.

On the flip side, my sister bought a Sony Viao top of the line. After 3 or 4 years, her computer took a shit

Her computer evolved to the point of human actions like taking a shit and you're arguing for macs?

Music, video and ebooks are fine.

If you are downloading pirated software then you should be very worried about viruses. But that is a concern about any software you illegally download from the internet and not just a problem with torrents.

Running any Microsoft software. You can get a virus just from receiving an email, opening a spreadsheet, etc.

Now you're sounding like jlprk and some of his crazy BS. You can't get a virus from an email, you can get a virus from opening an attachment in an email. There is a difference.

Wow, the Hindustan Times huh?

I found a number of sites with similar articles.

When an email program receives email and parses it, any vulnerabilities in the email program can be exploited.

By parse it, I mean to be able to show the subject and from, among other things.

Which is why one should use gmail, leaving any executeables on the Google servers, unless you specifically download them, rather than a POP/IMAP client.

So get a chromebook then. Do everything on Google servers.

I actually like Apple products.

I just think using gmail is a sensible approach to not falling victim to e-mail viruses and malware and such. You still have to sweep your system more, though, with a Windows machine than an OS X machine.

If you don't mind google reading your mail and you have no security concerns, then sure.

Do you have evidence that Google is reading the mail, or are you referring to programmatic ad targeting based off keywords in your e-mails?

Why does every thread about a PC have to turn into a jackoff session for Apple fanboys? I seriously don't get it. Are you that insecure about your favorite product that you have to constantly crow about it to people who clearly don't care?

At least, that's what the Internet giant articulated in a brief that was filed last month in federal court and recently surfaced by Consumer Watchdog. The document was written in response to a class-action lawsuit accusing Google of violating wiretap law when it scans emails to serve up targeted ads.

Plantiffs accuse Google of violating the emailers' privacy by mining their personal messages for information that it uses to inform which targeted ads it displays. The suit calls for Google to fully disclose exactly what information it's taking from emails, and to pay damages for these alleged violations of privacy. (You can read a redacted version of the complaint here).

Google has made it known that your privacy is not secure with google. They store all files in their server to work with law enforcement or for their own needs. When you sign up for google, you release your privacy rights.

Oracle's Larry Ellison calls Google 'absolutely evil,' says NSA surveillance is 'essential'

Even before it aired in its entirety earlier today, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison's rare interview with Charlie Rose for CBS This Morning already caused quite the stir last night, with early clips revealing Ellison's prediction that Apple would suffer without Steve Jobs in charge. But those were far from the only incendiary comments that Ellison wanted to get off his chest. He also said Google acted "absolutely evil" in terms of its treatment of Oracle's Java programming language, and enthusiastically endorsed the US government's mass surveillance programs recently revealed by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden, saying they are "absolutely essential" for preventing attacks like the Boston Marathon bombing.

Oracle sued Google for its use of Java for $6 billion in 2012 and lost, so it sounds like Ellison still has some sour grapes over that outcome. As he said in the interview: "the only guys I have trouble with are the Google guys." Prodded by Rose, Ellison elaborated: "Larry [Page] specifically…Because he makes the decisions over there." He also said: "I think what they did was absolutely evil," in reference to Google's use of Java, and that he blames Page "100 percent."

Turning to the topic of the revelations from leaked documents that the NSA has many programs collecting millions of users' data on the internet and through their wireless carriers, Ellison said he wasn't bothered, asking "who's ever heard of this information being misused by the government?" and adding:

It's great. It's essential. By the way, President Obama thinks its essential. It's essential if we want to minimize the kind of strikes we had in Boston. It's absolutely essential.

Ellison said the only way surveillance would go too far is if it was used by one political party to target the other, instead of terror suspects. The Oracle CEO, one of the world's richest people, doesn't give many interviews, but when he does, he always has lots to share. Check out the full interview above via CBS This Morning.

It's a thread about windows, and most of you came in here only to talk about Macs.

I said nothing about macs... Try again

Edit: I did say about my awesome 2005 Mac Pro tower, but that was only in response to Denny.

So I wasn't talking to you, was I?

Well you did say this

Why does every thread about a PC have to turn into a jackoff session for Apple fanboys? I seriously don't get it. Are you that insecure about your favorite product that you have to constantly crow about it to people who clearly don't care?

But I am aware of your "double standard"

Like when you chime in on apple threads to talk trash about how they are overpriced and shit.
