And how many defensive players of the year did Magic win, while leading the league in scoring AND winning the league MVP that same year? And how many all NBA defensive did Magic make, while leading the league in scoring?

That's why he isn't the best all time player.

Remember when Magic rolled the ball down the court out of anyones reach to run out the clock and our hopes for a NBA championship? Where's the stat for that? He was one of the best ever to play the game. And I can't stand him!!

clever does not make best all time.

Magic Johnson retired at the age of 31.. He lead his team to ion 5 NBA titles in only 12 years and went to the NBA finals 9 times in an era with tougher teams such as the Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets ect.

On another not, I don't know how anyone in today's game can be called better than Johnson, Jordan, Bird, Dr. J ect. When the NBA has gotten to be so soft. The game is different than it was back then.

Johnson played in a Phoenix Suns fast-paced soft defensive environment. With weaker athletes and no zone defense, it is no wonder defensive ratings are better now than back then.

Jordan is the greatest player ever.

Magic may be the most unique player ever, considering he was a 6' 9" PG. It's a shame he had to retire at age 31 because of the HIV. Even more amazing to me, Magic's career PER is 24, yet his career USG is 22. That's really insane, when you think about it.

People talk a lot about the next Jordan, but will there ever be another Magic? I doubt it.

The thing that really stood out to me about Magic was his love for the game. You could just tell that he was completely in love with basketball. There's actually a really good 30 for 30 on the whole Magic HIV thing. I can only imagine what it must have been like for him to decide that he was never going to play again.

So it's settled. We play lma at sf!

Sounds good. Sheed played small forward for a while when we had Zach at PF and Sabas at C.

Remember the big lineup that almost brought us back from an 0-3 deficit against Dallas?

Pippen
Bonzi
Sheed
ZBo
Sabas

If fucking Cheeks would have gone to that lineup earlier, we would have won that series. Bastard bought himself an extra year or two from that Natalie Gilbert thing.

Sheed was a better defender at the time. I would love to see it someday though. It would be nice to see a huge line-up of Lillard, Batum, Aldridge, Hickson and Leonard. I wonder how we'd do?

Sheed had better coordination than Aldridge does and he still struggled at SF. Still, that big lineup was something to behold. I'm just taking a stab at the heights but

Pippen 6'9
Bonzi 6'5
Sheed 6'11
ZBo 6'9
Sabas 7'1

Just a crazy athletic and versatile lineup. I wish they would have had more time together.

The reach is the important thing. All of those players have tremendous wingspans. Very tough to pass through d like that.

I'm not sure.

What's insane is how underrated Chris Paul is then, going by your barometer. Jordan also isn't loved by advanced defensive metrics like RAPM, other players get more love there because his defense is soft. Lastly people talk too much about Magic, Kobe won five rings and he was a better player offensively than Magic probably, yet he was a mere role player in 3 title runs.

Ultimately Kareem and Wilt have better stats than Jordan, but only because of their weaker eras. I think Jordan's era is also weaker than this current one, so you have to take into account that as well.

Yeah reach is more important than height for a lot of stuff, think of Dwyane Wade versus Evan Turner for example.

I keep agreeing with people I don't usually agree with lately..

Don't forget Magic played center in 1980 NBA finals and won with kareem injured in game 6 and although it was just one game it was with one of the greatest centers of all time in Moses Malone. I believe he even had a triple double in that game.

Awesome performance by a young star literally put on the spot, eclipsing anything I ever saw from Jordan, Bird, or anyone else.
