The NBA will announce LeBron James as its MVP on Monday, The Plain Dealer of Cleveland and The Associated Press have reported, citing unnamed sources.

A day before the Cleveland Cavaliers begin their second-round series against the Atlanta Hawks, the league will anoint James, 24.

The announcement will be made at James' alma mater, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, the reports said. The Cavaliers called a news conference for 4 p.m. ET but didn't specify the nature of the event.

ESPNEWS will carry the Cavaliers' news conference, expected to announce LeBron James as the NBA's MVP, at 4 p.m. ET

His Cavaliers teammates were expected to attend.

agreed. DaRizzle, do you think Kobe was ripped off, or do you think LeBron was deserving.

Lebron easily...Im not blind.

Thats not a knock on Kobe, he was just asked to do less because the Lakers have a better starting lineup. If Kobe was in Lebrons exact situation (and had the familiarity of his teammates) I think he could do some very amazing stuff.

Since May of LAST year I thought Kobe would only get that one MVP from last year. I knew barring a miracle that this would be Lebrons year. The Lakers are too stacked to give it to him again for the foreseeable future.

Kobe has been screwed on MVP's his entire career. Last year for him was good, but he has had several better seasons...I still cant believe Nash has two MVP's...such a fucking joke

Probably the two years that Kobe was at his physical peak were the Lakers two worst years since all he had was Odom and a bunch of scrubs...Go look at those lineups after Shaq...they are sooo pathetic

No shit. D'Antoni and his SSOL offense turned a very very good player into something he wasn't. Besides, how the hell can a guy who doesn't play defense win an MVP, let alone two. :dunno:

1969...but that will remain the only time :ghoti:
I am afraid that KingSpeed disease is spreading throughout our metro-LA resident forum members. Contradicting oneself in the same thread. Someone should alert the CDC... :pimp:

Huge blemish on the NBA IMO. Tell me how 05-06 wasnt deserving of a Kobe MVP?!? His stats

He only dragged a piece of shit team into the playoffs almost single handily, plays good to great D, scores the 2nd most points in NBA history, and AVERAGES 35.4 ppg.

*charles barkley and allen iverson raise their hands*

I thought Nash deserved his first MVP award, but I agree that either Kobe or Lebron should've won it the following year.

WTF, LeBron only got 109/121 first place votes. He got 1172/1200 points, which means that one person didn't even think he was in the top three. That guy is crazy and doesn't deserve a vote in this award. I know that's anti-democratic, but democracy assumes knowledge of the situation.

If Kobe were in LeBron's position Kobe would do what he did two years ago. Namely, throw his teammates under the bus and try to force a trade out of town.

The only amazing thing about that would be the people who would defend Kobe in spite of him being a total fucking dick.

Who did he throw under the bus? He got a fringe All-Star in Pau Gasol and with that alone he got to the Finals last year in this incredibly deep conference. The other dude is having career months playing with Bryant and will make the All-NBA team for the first time because of how much Kobe makes his team better.

Kobe wanted to win when he had nothing, don't see what is wrong with that though. I'd much rather get traded than stay in Minnesota like KG.

Oh you mean how Lebron was implying he would bail if he didnt get help. Kobe was not gracious how he did it but he got the job done.

I defend Kobe as a player, not a person. Kobe is a dick. A dick who is the best bball player in the world.

Shit like this makes my day.

Why? If you think its because Im all bitter about Kobe not getting it Im sorry to disappoint you cause Im not. Im disappointed because it ruins the integrity of the award IMO

Steve Nash winning two MVPs and beating Kobe out fair and square in 06 ruins the integrity of the award??!

Hop off Kobe's dick. Seriously.

Wow...Im not on Kobe's dick. You're just trying to fuck with a Lakers fan right? Kobes 05-06 year was one of the most epic in NBA history.

Kobe is good. Hell, Kobe is great. But Kobe is not the best bball player in the world. At least, not anymore. I honestly can't fathom how anyone could say Kobe is better then LeBron. If Kobe was on this years Cavs I really doubt they would have been as successful. If you put LeBron on the Lakers with that supporting cast and that team wins 70+ games.

Yeah, Its debatable...Im aware of that...Ill take Kobe, especially in the 4th quarter

...and I disagree with the 70+ BS...That has happened all of once in the history of the NBA. It took 2 of the top 50 best players of all time to do it. Lebron doesnt come close to Kobe's outside shot. Lebron goes to the rim much more frequently. Lakers already have two bigs clogging the lane. The Lakers are built for Kobe, not Lebron

Well LeBron's had the better regular season, Kobe's minutes were scaled back and he was supposed to pace himself. I'd judge them both on the post-season actually, and LeBron's numbers dip more against the good teams in the league.

Him or Paul should have gotten it last year, but meh... he was obviously the best player in the game this year. It seemed like his award to lose though, IDK why exactly. Someone would have to have a spectucular season to have beaten him out. But either way, he deserved it.

O MAI GODZ HE SKORD 35 POINTZ A GAEM!

Steve Nash took a ragtag team that was minus Amare Stoudemire to 54 wins and the West finals. He averaged a double-double that season. That trumps Kobe's impressive scoring average easily.

Scoring champion =/= MVP.

Professor JE is out.

You've already admitted you're not that good with numbers in the past.

Nash plays 35 minutes a game and no defense. Basketball-reference gave him 13 win shares on a 54 win team, Kobe had 15 on a 45 win team. He contributed more wins and is a more complete player. There is no statistical manner in which this is a close call, you have nothing to cite anymore.

45-37 with this piss ass team.

Remember, Bynum wasnt playing, Ronny had heart surgery, Von Wafer was cut, and Smush Parker is now playing in China...Kobe won games all by himself. PHX minus Nash is WAAAAAYYYYYY better than Lakers minus Kobe that year

Have I.

You want to use win shares to try and hold your argument? You can't look at a bunch of numbers and say concretely 'Nash contributed more wins'. This isn't baseball. Steve Nash did more with his rag-tag team (averaged a double-double and kept them afloat after a crushing injury) than Kobe did with his (lol scoring champion!!). Its that simple.

Nash's offensive production per possession has been measured already, he didn't even break 15 wins on a 54 win team. The way he made his teammates better is directly calculated in offensive rating, which is a team stat as well.

Teams that win more have a huge edge in win shares, yet he clearly doesn't even break even with Kobe at 15.

He's not durable, or complete enough on both ends to be the MVP that year, it's not hard to understand.
