No debate about who is the best player in the NBA right now.

Where is "The Taint" from the ESPN days? He claimed that James would be bust, and staked his board name on it. I have a guess he still posts here under another name that begins with jl...

HE is the Taint?!

Is he better than Jordan?

I think that he might be.

Ed O.

All around physical talents? Yes.

Stone cold refuse to lose killer? No.

It's a sign of how weak the league has become.

Debate LBJ vs. MJ, but where's anyone who ranks with Pippen, or Ewing, or Barkley, or Karl Malone, or David Robinson, or Kevin Johnson, or Shaq.

MJ did it against those guys. LBJ puts up his numbers against Thabo Sefalosha.

How the hell did Kevin Johnson make that list? Did you mean Kevin McHale or Magic Johnson??

I really don't get this comment.

None of those guys were MJ's position, one of them was his teammate.. And Kevin Johnson... What?

Most of the players you listed are big men, and yes, there are not many big men these days on the level of Malone, Barkley, and Robinson.

If you say MJ did it against those guys, you can just as easily say that LeBron has done it against Shaq, Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Rose.

The league is so much more competitive on the wing, where Jordan played, than it was back then. It was the age of the big man, and MJ took advantage of it.

I think if Kobe had been born in 1975, entered the league in 1983, he would have just as good, if not better, than Jordan.

If K*be had been born in 75 and entered the league in 83 he would've been the best 8 year-old ever. ;)

Shaq was old by the time LeBron came along.

Kevin Johnson. The guy who put up 20/10 for 3 seasons and 19.7/10 for another.

To put it in perspective, only Rondo averaged 10 assists this season. And you act like he's some mediocre player? Sure, he may have been in his time, which says a LOT about the quality of the league now.

My point is how deep the league was back then. None of those guys you mentioned are close in ability to the guys I named.

You really underrate players from this era.

So Kevin Johnson was better than Kobe?

You overrate players from this era. Guys put up gaudier stats because the competition is weaker.

I Disagree, some positions are weaker PF/C comes to mind but the competition at Guard/wings is much much better then 15-20 years ago. You threw out Vanilla Gorillas list but it seems like a disagreement due to a generational gap then due to actual talent gap. You see it all the time at the Bars, the NBA was better in whoevers generation is talking at the moment then anything to due with actual Talent. The game has changed as well as how its reffed and coached but the Talent is always there.

It's tough to put any of today's guards ahead of the likes of Jordan, Magic, Stockton and Drexler - all established, all-time greats - but the depth at PG right now is ridiculous. Make a mental top-ten list and most of them would have ranked similarly high throughout the 80's and 90's. SG is pretty weak right now, but I think that's largely because the position has been bastardized as more and more emphasis is placed on scoring, primary ball handlers.

I live in both generations.

I saw the players then, I see the players now. I saw the influx of weaker players over time. The last two CBA deals put the emphasis on lower caliber talent playing for cheapest contracts possible.

I don't think you're giving credit to the guards who played back then, either. Aside from Pippen and Jordan, you had KJ and Ray Allen and Glenn Rice and Ainge and Stockton and Tim Hardaway and Gary Payton, etc.

I also think it might be a better comparison between Karl Malone and LeBron.

Or how about all-star Joakim Noah is the next coming of Brian Grant?

Kobe is Kobe because of Jordan. He copied Jordan. He wouldn't have been Kobe without Jordan to lead the way.

Also- what amazing SGs were Jordan beating in the playoffs? John Starks? Hornacek? Byron Scott? Majerle? Drexler is the only HOFer he faced in the playoffs. Reggie Miller once in ECF too but he wasn't known for his D.

Alan Houston, Jerry Stackhouse, Reggie Miller, Ricky Pierce, Steve Smith, Jeff Hornacek, Drexler, Jalen Rose, Isaiah Rider, Jim Jackson, Hersey Hawkins, Eddie Jones, Michael Finley, Mitch Richmond, Latrell Sprewell.

Those are the prominent SGs from the 1st year of the 2nd threepeat.

Quite a few of those guys would be elite players today. Jackson, Richmond, Miller, Houston, Finley, Drexler, Smith, Rider...
