Lebron on Dame

I thought this thread was about LBJ covering Dame tonight.....

I think we could make it happen. I think we could put together a package for the Cavs to rebuild, while keeping the team mostly intact.

Hometown boy CJ would be a hell of a rebuilding block for the Cavs to start with.

And we can easily find a SG for the tax MLE, especially with lebron on the roster.

If he wanted to come here, it would be amazing. I'd gladly deal CJ/Harkless/Aminu for Clarkson and a S&T'd Lebron. But even if Lebron and Cleveland were both down with that, I don't think even that would be enough outgoing to keep us far enough below the apron to be able to keep Nurkic and Davis, unless Lebron actually took a significant pay cut.

Forget clarkson. We can find a better SG for the MLE.

CJ, Aminus expiring, and our first for Lebron. That's a hell of a deal for Cleveland in a sign and trade.

The hard cap would still be an issue if he came in a S&T. Now, if he did the Chris Paul opt-in-and-trade...that would be a different story, and that would be something we could work with.

"Give me Damian Lillard. I'll show you how appreciated he'll be."

Jeff Beck once tried to steal Keith Moon from the Who by having him play drums on the song, "Beck's Bolero." When Pete Townsend found out about it. He just stared daggers at Beck all night in club they were both partying in. That is me right now, staring daggers at Lebron.

I wouldn't worry about it. If lebron wants to come to Portland, he'll come to Portland.
More talking about whether or not we'd be able to keep Nurkic. If Lebron came over in a S/T starting at $35M (a figure I'm using simply because it's his salary next year if he were to exercise his player option), the 7 guaranteed contracts we'd have at that point (LBJ, Dame, ET, Mo, MyLe, ZCo, Biggie) would total about $107M, and we'd be hard capped at 129M. Factor in the $5M in dead cap salaries, and allocate the $850K rookie minimum for roster spots 8-13, and we'd be limited to a maximum of $11.5M starting salary for re-signing Nurkic. I don't think that would be enough to keep him.

Given the choice, would we want to deal CJ, Nurkic, Aminu, Shabazz, Davis, and a pick for Lebron? Because for him to S&T, that's essentially what we'd be doing. And if that were the case, would he really want to come here if we had to lose half our roster in the process?

Can Lebron be on a team that is not his? Can he be #2?

I don’t think 11.5m is too crazy of a number for Nurkic. I personally don’t see his number going over 15, just based on the expected market.

I’ll leave the gymnastics to Olshey and co. But guys take paycuts to play with Lebron all the time. This wouldn’t be any different.

Again, in the scenario outlined, the Blazers would have to have 6 minimum salary players. $11.5M for Nurk only allows for rookies. For players with more than 2 years of service to take paycuts to play with Lebron, that would be $9M combined for those 6 spots, which would leave only 7.5M for Nurk.

There are only so many gymnastics Olshey and co. can do if they're under a hard cap, which is why S&T basically isn't an option.

And you're going to explain how that's going to happen?

Well since this is all a fantasy............ Swanigan, whoever we pick this year, and 2019 draft pick. That is 3 young players that they would not have if LBJ goes to the Lakers. However the tougher sell is they have to take back some bad contracts in ET who went to Ohio State, and either Harkless or Biebs.

Once LBJ leaves, Cleveland is no longer a FA destination so if I am them I would not care too much about the cap space.

It probably means nothing more than a hypothetical response to a question.

But it’s fun to dream.
It is--like playing the lottery. For entertainment only.

CJ, Aminu, and Swanigan come out to about $35m, no?

Yeah, unless there are some major salary dump trades (which is also extremely unlikely) it seems silly to discuss any moves that involve a sign-and-trade.

That leaves just two options if Lebron wants to come here. He'd have to take the tax-MLE or he'd have to pull a Chris Paul like you mentioned. The good thing about that for LeBron is we'd own his bird rights and could max him out in 2019 so he wouldn't really lose that much money, unlike Paul George who would be leaving a pretty significant amount of money on the table doing that.

Being able to match the salary isn't the point. It's the restrictions that would follow.
