This thread isn't necessarily a thread to see who is obtainable, but who could legitimately put us into contention with a starting core of just Dame. Then u build around them after you've traded the farm to get this player.

For this exercise, you have the option of getting any talent in exchange of every other player, excluding Dame of course.

And yes, you still need role players, but for arguments sake, the higher upside players on our current team would be necessary to get this said player. Also, the newly acquired player has agreed to some Max extension, so we are guaranteed this player is willing to play with us for the next 5 years.

I will start with a player.

Kevin Durant. The duo of Durant and Dame is a legit big two. Adding Durant with Dame will almost guarantee that we could land a third big time player to compete for a title. Durant's age is young enough to stay in a legit 5-6 year window of title contention.

Kevin Durant wouldn't even know where Portland is unless he's going to Nike for meetings.

We can't even resign our star player how the hell would Kevin Durant consider us lol

How about you play along instead of saying he won't resign. You will see where this thread is going.

So far we have Kevin Durant and LBJ as true game changers. Anyone else?

We re-signed both Roy and Lillard - those are the only two star players we've had in the past decade.

So adding a "injury free prime" Roy with Dame is enough to build a title contender?

I was responding to the comment about not being able to sign our own star players.
But no, Roy didn't know how to play with a PG so pairing him with Dame would have sucked.

I'm trying to decide between Boogie Cousins and Carmelo Anthony.

The only answer is LeBron James. He is the ONLY player in the ENTIRE league who can singlehandedly lead a team to the finals with scrubs around him. He makes everyone around him significantly better.

Durant, IMO, is the best scorer in the league but overrated as an OVERALL player.

Durant has made the finals ONCE with Westbrook and Ibaka, which negates the 'west is harder' argument. He has significantly better teammates. He also had Harden the year they made the finals.

LeBron wouldn't have missed the finals once with that team.

Anthony Davis is the only other person I'd consider.

So you are calling dame a scrub?

Paul George, Marc Gasol, Boogie, Kawai Leonard, Anthony Davis, Blake Griffin, Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, Al Horford,
So you would trade the farm for Al Horford, Demarcus Cousins, Blake Griffin and Jimmy Butler?

The others I could definitely see though

So right now, we have AD, Durant, LBJ, Marc Gasol, and Steph Curry

uh..I thought it was a list of players that would be game changers..Sly already said LBJ, someone said Durant so the list didn't involve trading anybody..I think every player I mentioned is a game changer on any roster. If you read my next post I narrowed it down and Anthony Davis I would trade the farm for

This is a hypothetical scenario bro. I clearly explained it with the first post.

The point of this thread is to truly find out which players our fanbase is willing to give up the farm (everyone but dame).

I kinda think Kawhi Leonard is a touch overrated, but having said that, he'd make a very nice addition to the Blazers. I like his game and quiet leadership.

Is he and Dame enough? Remember that we would hypothetically lose Leonard, CJ, Vonleh, Davis and Plumlee for.

I just kidding by the way. There's really no one else on the Spurs I would really and truly want right now.

Lebron, Durant, Davis (maybe).

Yes, that's it. No one else is winning the title with just Dame
Ding ding ding!!!!!!!!!

So let's get real with thinking about trading 5 potential players (Leonard, CJ, Vonleh, Plumlee and Davis) for players that we 100% know isn't enough to contend now.

Why? Because only when you get those top 3 players we mentioned is when you will have serious consideration from free agents to come here. Otherwise, you take low risk moves and try and field a team organically. Yes, it could be through draft, but it could be loading up on those potential players like Vonleh, Plumlee, Leonard and CJ with Liklard at the helm.

Lebron, Durant, Shaft, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Kaiser Soze, The Guy in the Budweiser commercials that says "Zer!" All legitimate game changers....

after you've traded the farm to get this player.

But I have a question Mags. What makes you think this player will want to stay a play with Dame? Why will he stay after we trade the farm to get him? Lamarcus didn't.
Naw, I think we should keep the newbies and get a coach to teach them how to be game changers.

LeBron is the only for sure player; maybe Anthony Davis.

The current Blazer team is multiple pieces away from contending. If a couple of the young guys currently on the roster can become above average starters we will only be one move away. But thats a series of "ifs" that all have to break our way.

The sad part is no matter what Blazer management does most likely we won't become a contender in the coming years of Lillards prime. There's only 6 contending teams in the league so 80% of the league is not contending. It doesn't matter if we build around Lillard, tank for #1 picks, sign a free agent, trade for a disgruntled star, or even trade Lillard for the #1 pick. The most likely outcome of all of those strategies is the Blazers not contending for a title. Its very difficult and unlikely to build a contending team. Most times it doesn't happen. Yes there's always hope and that chance just as when you put money in a slot machine but mathematically the odds are against it.
