If we're going to criticize Oden, then we should be fair:

Bynum put off having offseason surgery on his right knee so he could play - and we're not talking about playing basketball. He could've repaired the knee immediately after last season, but he postponed it to travel - to see the soccer World Cup in South Africa and then vacation in Europe, as he had the previous summer.

Bynum didn't want to be on crutches, which would've diminished all that fun stuff or required rescheduling. He even had the knee drained, just as he did repeatedly with much ado in the playoffs to keep playing, so he could keep pivoting around reasonably well as a sightseer.

Yes, Bynum's doctor did push back the surgery date also - from July 18 to July 28 - because of scheduling issues, but Bynum's doctor was indeed available to perform the procedure before Bynum went globetrotting. It was Bynum's choice to enjoy himself, assuming he'd be fine by the time the 2010-11 season came - even though his complications with knees are well known and his past healings have been measured by sundial.

I haven't criticized Greg about anything.

You didn't quote the linked article: "Andrew Bynum’s Rehabbing His Knee at the Playboy Mansion"

Why do we have to consider Andrew Bynum if we're going to criticize Oden?

Last time I checked, they are different people.

Why do we have to consider Kevin Durant if we're going to criticize Oden?

Last time I checked, they are different people.

#1. Bynum wasn't in the same draft as Oden, AND he wasn't a number one pick. He was picked tenth.

#2. Durant was selected immediately after Oden, therefor the two players will always be mentioned when talking about Oden until Oden wins a championship or starts playing like an All-Star.

Why wouldn't people consider Bynum when they criticize Oden though? We had to consider Bynum when we were thinking Oden was going to be one of the best young bigs in the league his rookie year.

Consider Durant when criticizing KP, not when criticizing Oden. Oden has nothing to do with Durant.

With Greg being in his 4th year any critiques of him playing basketball will be fair as long as they aren't flat out lies.

I'm not sure fans are being critical of Oden... I think people are disappointed. We want to see him play and we want to see him dominate.

I am critical of the front office for the selection. I'm critical of the lack of information regarding what should have been a speedy rehab.

One other thought, it's not necessary critical of Oden to admire Durant either.

People knocking them out of the park in this thread. So sick of the negativity around here.

Go Blazers...ALL Blazers!

Keep in mind we could have also ended up with Adam Morrison and Tyrus Thomas instead of Roy and LA. Let's not focus on the negatives here.

And as we all know the past is strictly off-limits

Well let's talk about Michael Jordan then. Man that motherfucker who didn't take Jordan. And fuck Clyde for not getting a ring that piece of shit.

Yeah, lets live in the past instead of rooting for our current squad as assembled right now good call.

Of course I won't dwell on Roy's health issues, I will instead hope that they aren't a problem and try not to think about them too much. Instead I will focus on what he brings in games where he's healthy instead of complaining about the Phoenix series where he was hurt.

Criticism of effort is cool, criticism of injuries is just fucking lame and kicking someone when they are down.

To review criticizing Rudy's douchebaggery = cool

Criticizing Batum for his shoulder injury is lame.

I don't remember anyone criticizing Oden for getting injured. What was questioned was whether management handled these things right: 1) playing him and others when it was known they already had the beginnings of the problem that got worse, 2) a lackadaisically slow therapy program, causing delays to the subsequent lethargic workout program, 3) such delays causing Oden to join his teammates late each season, and thus cause him to play every single damned season with great stress in his face with his mouth wide open gasping for breath and needing frequent rest on the bench, looking as out of shape as you or I would, 4) joining the team late each season also makes him confused about the plays for awhile and confuses McMillan about which plays to use (McMillan may need a preseason with an in-shape Oden even more than Oden does).

None of this was criticism of Oden for getting injured, as this thread alleges. It was criticism of management or coaching. For all I know, the directives may be coming from Paul Allen himself.

In contrast, Bynum made the decision himself to delay surgery till the season is almost started. It's the fault of Bynum himself.

I still think the reasoning of picking Durant for scoring titles and Oden for championships is sound, depending of course on Oden staying healthy, but Durant has turned out to be a more rounded player than I thought he'd be. Have to give him credit.

It's obvious that we shouldn't dwell on the oden/durant debate because it is in the past. But you must admit it's kind of frustrating watching Durant reach superstar status not only on his own team, but leading the USA basketball team. All the while, Oden hasn't contributed anything besides dick pictures.

Thank god for roy.

I hope Bynum and Oden can both get healthy, they are the top two centers in the west depending on Yao's health.

Kind of spookie when you think about all three of those guys having very major injury issues. Sometimes big 7 footers just have a hard time staying on the court in the NBA.

Consider Durant when criticizing KP, not when criticizing Oden. Oden has nothing to do with Durant.

We can wish this all we want to, but the reality is that those two players are going to be forever linked. Instead of pretending it doesn't exist, I embrace the link between Oden and Durant.

There is nothing fair about life. So why be fair?
