Let's Get Roy a Decent Nickname

Welcome to our community

Guys with cool nicknames: Vinsanity, The Truth, The Answer, Franchise, Starbury, The Big (whatever), King James

Guys without cool nicknames: Ray Allen, Duncan, McGrady, Parker, Paul, Deron Williams, Nash

The second group of guys have nicknames, but they don't roll of the tongue. They seem a little clunky, or just boring. (The Big Fundamental? T-Mac?) That second group tends to be a little bit less about the show. A little less likely to throw down the nasty dunk, because they know a layup is also worth two points.

Which group does Roy belong in? The answer is pretty obvious. And while it's fun to pin nicknames on him, it's why I doubt any will ever really stick.

What's wrong with either of mine? I think his mama likes "Brandon" and I hope his father likes "Roy".

I give you an A for creativity, but your ideas are just a little too 'out there', like you're trying too hard. Maybe tone it down a bit. Don't get all crazy on us.

The four guys on our team most likely to get nicknames that really stick are Oden, Fernandez, Bayless and Outlaw. In that order.

Outlaw may never get a nickname, though, because his last name is so badass. How do you come up with a nickname that's going to sound more awesome than "Outlaw"?

I thought Outlaw was "catfish"

I think "Trout" is actually a fairly cool nickname. Nice how a blending of both names turn into a word. But not one that really says a lot about his game. So, not perfect.

Well, he used to look like a trout out of water on defense, but not so much anymore.

We should call Travis "Reckless". "Reckless Outlaw" just captures him and his game.

"The Saint"
Vice-Roy
gg
The Little Fundamental

gg would be all hip and "internetty", but I like "The Natural"

The Concierge . . . he does everything and takes care of his teamamtes

Brandon tends to like superheros: Captain Invinsible, Captain Nice, Captain Universe, Captain Comet, Morpheus, Human Torch, Black Lighting, Slash Gordon, The Shawdow, Yellow Surfer, Yellow Arrow, Yellow Latern, Super Roy, Big Red, Majestic Agent, Hoppy the Marvel Bunny, Warlock, Scooby Doo, Professor B.

Or in honor of the OP . . . e_Roy or i_Roy

To Roy's credit, some believe Portland is THE playoff sleeper and it's mainly because he's turned into such a killer closer. Stay tuned.

From the bill simmons article

"The Closer."

except it makes me think of that stupid show on TNT that is always promoted to death during the playoffs.

Ray Allen - Jesus Shuttlesworth (it's a long one)
Duncan - TD (I had never even heard "the big fundamental"
McGrady - T-Mac (wasn't he one of the first to do the "t-mac" or c-webb" thing?"
Parker - ?? (I don't know any for Tony. Eva Longoria's arm candy?"
Paul - CP3 (I like this one)
Williams - Deron is Deron (it works on so many levels)
Nash - ?? (I've just always called him "fugly"

a male given name: from a Scots Gaelic word meaning “red.”

Interesting. It was fate.

This thread is both entertaining and futile. Wheels calls him The Natural, and if that doesn't stick, nothing will. (Hmmm... Maybe "Teflon"?)

Travis already has a good nickname. It's "Bo".
