No one has mentioned me. I feel like this is a popularity contest and no on loves me. Sly, ban everyone. My feelings have been personally attacked.

Can it be personal if there are two of us?

And yes its a popularity contest. The whole forum is though

Well just do like me... I forced my popularity on the rest of the board by nominating myself for a position and no one veto'd

Remember that Woody Allen joke, "I would never want to be a member of a club that would want me as a member?" That would apply to the Trail Blazers roster this year too.

Grouch Marx remembers it, and he is not amused.

Well we need someone to bring the donuts to every Friday meeting.

I would like to be in quality control so I can tell you guys how idiotic your ideas are for improving the team. And so you wont embarrass yourself with Kaman for Durant calls to Presti in the middle of the night.

Now that was funny MM!

Blaze??? Well he's not vocal but still.

Hey!! Im the Vocalist dammit! I will out scream, yell anyone on this forum. I will put money on it.

Just cause im fat makes me a donut expert?

Wait do I get free nosebleed seats and a seat on the dancer bus?

Hey now, that might be the best prize of all. some of the dancers are hot, hot, hot, like the red head!!!!(don't tell my wife I said that though...)

I couldnt decide between that or

You Asians are all so smug. Sure math tests are easy for you, but do you have to show off and do them with your eyes closed?

Wow. If @dviss1 didn't already have you on ignore, he surely would after that post.

You're in Houston, right? We could call you "mission control" since you are so good at bringing people back down to Earth.

Must be on ignore because I didn't catch it... Must have been some blatant racism? Probably good that I do. MM posts some asinine shit sometimes...

Blatantly racist jokes. You would not approve. I don't either, but I'm less vocal about it than you would be. (We don't need to discuss why...)

@SlyPokerDog Why is this shit ok? Why is there no forum rule about it? There's a difference between blatant racism and simply just offensive.... Calling someone fat is offensive. Calling someone a fat nigger is completely different.

Calling someone either is a personal attack, and actually IS against the rules

I imagine the obviously humorous intent would be what would make what MM posted acceptable, while the hostility in the example you gave would not be. To that end, there's certainly an argument to be made in favor of race-related jokes being one of many tools to break down inter-racial division. Are we better off pretending that differences don't exist, or accepting and acknowledging our differences via light-hearted ribbing?

In my mind, race-based comments become problematic not because of their content so much as their reception. I work with a Spaniard, a Mexican and a Vietnamese woman, and we all joke about our ethnic and cultural differences (mine [or my lack thereof] included), and it works because we all understand that there is no ill intent, and it's all based in camaraderie. If any of us chose to take any comments personally, then we'd be an HR nightmare; the mutual understanding and respect is what makes our interactions OK.

Sooo it's ok to be racist as long as we don't respond negatively to it? MM's comments are is in NO WAY based in comradeship... There is no mutual understanding between he and I. As a matter of fact the mutual understanding is that he's being racist....

I can't speak for MM, and don't intend to. I only speak from my own perspective and experience.

If you made a joke about me having no hops, unable to dance, or having inferior genitalia, I would not care. It could be considered racist, but it would be OK, because I would be OK with it. If you tell me that I am a bigot because I'm white, I might take offense to that. That would also be racist, and not OK.

In my mind, both intent and reception are important. If either the comments are intended to demean, or the hearer feels demeaned, then there is a problem. However, if the speaker is considerate of the hearer's feelings, and both are OK with the comments, then yes, race-based comments--even those involving racist stereotypes--can be acceptable.

Since I wasn't nominated for anything else, I vote myself as the official twitter/media correspondent.

I will be the one to share league wide rumors, while also spreading misinformation to agents and Woj, et al

Only if you make sure our twitter feed is full of snark and trash talk. I will not permit a boring tweeter.
