Sooo it's ok to be racist as long as we don't respond negatively to it? MM's comments are is in NO WAY based in comradeship... There is no mutual understanding between he and I. As a matter of fact the mutual understanding is that he's being racist....

Did you read them? No because you have on ignore. It was completely based on comradeship because mags and i joke. He even liked the post.

I can't speak for MM, and don't intend to. I only speak from my own perspective and experience.

If you made a joke about me having no hops, unable to dance, or having inferior genitalia, I would not care. It could be considered racist, but it would be OK, because I would be OK with it. If you tell me that I am a bigot because I'm white, I might take offense to that. That would also be racist, and not OK.

In my mind, both intent and reception are important. If either the comments are intended to demean, or the hearer feels demeaned, then there is a problem. However, if the speaker is considerate of the hearer's feelings, and both are OK with the comments, then yes, race-based comments--even those involving racist stereotypes--can be acceptable.

Not agreeing or disagreeing, but what you listed as racist isn't racist. To say someone doesn't have hops. How is that racist? or unable to dance? That is not pinpointing a specific race or races and calling them out. There is a difference between a racist and being an asshole.
Now if he said you cant jump because your white, or Asian, or plutonian, then that would be racist... and maybe that's what you meant.

Yes, that's what I meant. dviss1 has never met me personally, so all of those would be race-based stereotypes rather than statements based on actual observation. I erroneously assumed that it was implied since all of those are commonly understood stereotypes of white men.

To achieve that level of respect one should at least know the person they are joking with and have established some rapport. He doesn't know me, nor have we established any rapport... As a matter of fact we've established just the opposite...

Jeez. The amount of bitter acrimony on this board is incredible. Kiss your mother with that mouth. I suggest some cognitive behavioral therapy in the future.

I hear you. He was actually joking with Mags, with whom he has in fact established rapport. In all reality, it was wrong of me to even bring you up in relation to his jokes, because they had nothing to do with you directly, just race overall.

I apologize for stirring up dissension.

See above. It's all my fault. I apologize to you as well.

So, I want to sit in the draft room and smile and nod whenever PA says anything. Can I have that job?

I'm thinking Gestalt therapy.

Fritz Perls said that communication could be divided into "chickenshit", "bullshit", and "elephantshit." Seems much more applicable to the internet! :smiley-beerchug:

No--he would fire you. He hates yes men. However, you can be the guy that gets fired for not having sufficient support for your position. Basically the red-shirt guy in the landing crew.

The funny thing about this thread is there are some that actually think they could run a team
Not without training. But yeah, with a year of training, I could totally do it, but I'd hate the negotiation part. Do you know Olshey's background?

I'm with you--I'm a terrible negotiator. I've never understood people who can haggle. I just don't have it in me.

Your $300 investment in Devry online community college finally panned out!

Remember that Woody Allen joke, "I would never want to be a member of a club that would want me as a member?" That would apply to the Trail Blazers roster this year too.
You misspelled "Groucho Marx."

Just sayin'.
