So ladies and gentlemen it looks like a few things are happening here.

1. LA, Wes and Rolo are all out of here.
2. We are not getting D. Green, D. Carroll, G. Monroe or basically anyone we have been linked to.
3. There is still hope.

I say it's time to go balls out and embrace defense.

Fire Terry Stotts, Hire Thibs

Sign Patrick Beverly
Trade for Taj Gibson
Sign Deandre Jordan

Pairing those three with Aminu our defense would be incredible. We would still need to find a defensive stopper to take some minutes at SG as that is not really Henderson's forte. However if Thibs could get these guys to learn some defense and be able to pair them with actual talented defenders like Beverly, Gibson and Jordan who can mask some of their mistakes, we would be on the right track. Odds are that team would not make the playoffs in the west but it would be a lot of fun to watch and with low expectations we can have Thibs work on developing our young guys such as Lillard, McCollum, Vonleh, Plumlee and Leonard. If Curry can learn to defend in a system, Lillard can as well and if any of the others keep developing the Blazers can make a quick recovery.

Otherwise it looks like we are back to tank mode with a very poor free agent class coming out next summer another rebuild would likely take 2-3 years and I just don't want to wait anymore.

Lillard is the worst defender this side of Jose Calderon at his position.

As long as guards can get into the lane at will we're always going to be, at best, a mediocre defensive team.

Hence why it is essential we sign someone like Beverly to pair with Aminu, we need Lillard to at least be able to learn a role in a defensive scheme, if he can do that then we can let Aminu and Beverly guard the primary ball handlers and hide him on defense. We could do the same with McCollum while he is in there. It might not be ideal but with 4 talented defenders it could be effective. We just got to get the 3 other defenders to town.

Jordon
Meyers (don't laugh, ask Gasol)
Aminu
Henderson
Beverly
...turn Thibs loose and win games 36-31.

Thibs does love Dame (and vice-versa).

Well since we are locking up Dame I think it would be smart to build around him. Thibs can address his defensive issues and who knows maybe we get Bledsoe for LA choosing the Suns and then would could actually field a proper team.

I have a feeling we will try and do a lot of swarm defense and get easy points from steals and turn overs

With quality SG being so hard to find and the likelihood of us getting Bledsoe in a S&T with the Suns is low maybe after getting Jordan, Gibson and Beverly we give Matthews his money.

One it has to be insured against injury and two it should have a team option so that we can get out if he can't recover from the injury. A healthy, Matthews paired with Beverly, Aminu, Gibson and Jordan would make for an elite defense.

Ed Davis now ugh Olshey is just giving money to whoever will take it.

We need to add defense.... shit we just added a defensive player FML!

Okay as long as you guys are happy with our front court being Plumlee, Davis, Leonard, Vonleh, and Kaman. Seems like a pretty drastic downgrade from Leonard, Kaman, Rolo and LA.

Link? He hasn't said he's staying or going. So this is false. Stop being a reporter, you're doing too good of a job.

No just one of our own coaches did though

So it's plain fact. Nothing else to see. May as well just not listen to LA or what he has to say.

Until it comes from his mouth, what anyone else says is complete bs.

Sounds like your having a hard time with this.

What defense?

We might get one some day Aminu is a good defender and Davis seemed like he was good then again the Lakers were giving up like 120 a night so hard to tell.

Sounds like you're having a hard time being patient.

Oh, and it's you're.

Damn you moderate, spellcheck and fix punctuation. That is one hell of a resume, I am sure it will be useful when you apply to join the Spurs forum after LA signs.

So you start a thread talking about going all in on "defense", and in the same thread you criticize Neil for going after a good defender in Davis? I would have thought the thread was based on Neil getting Davis.

For the record, the spurs forum is one of the worst places on the internet, I would never post there.

second, I am not an LA fan. I am a fan of letting a man make a decision, and only accepting verification of said decision by the person himself, not some other entity or news program.

That should just be common knowledge and logic at this point.

Great idea. I think if/when LMA leaves, it would be the perfect opportunity to let Terry Stotts go and get Thibodeau. It would be a built-in excuse to gently fire Stotts, as the personnel on this team has changed drastically. It doesn't make the Blazers look as bad as we would if we were outright canning Stotts, and it doesn't make Stotts look bad because our whole roster has been revamped and will not fit Stotts' current system.

From a defensive standpoint (you know, the topic of this thread that you created), We've quite certainly upgraded our frontcourt. And while overall offensive production will be less with this frontcourt, offensive efficiency will likely improve, as LA is really not a very efficient offensive player, while Davis really is.

The starting Center and Power Forward for your Portland Trail Blazers.

This whole FA has been one social media clusterfuck after another. Incorrect and contradicting reports everywhere.

Davis is fine in a bubble was just hoping he was aiming a little higher up the FA market. Some like DeAndre Jordan who lead the league in rebounding and was among the leaders in Defensive Rating, Defensive Wins Shares, Blocks etc.

Davis is gave up around a PER of 20 and his DWS put him like 150 in the league and his defensive rating of 107 puts him in the solid 250 range.

Some of that can be attributed to the Lakers being just dreadful but some of it suggests he is not a focal point on defense that we need to go all in on defense.
