man that is a big mofo liger. I seriously thought it was gonna take a bite out of that guy who was talking about its head size.

Ligers are massive.

It seems mules are a better combo, (horse/donkey). Just because they are hard workers and stuff, I can't imagine a liger being used for anything but the circus.

Whoa! The question in my mind is, can they breed? Emagine making several ligers, and have them breed with each other, then release them in the wild somewhere...

Not all animals are 'used' for anything. Create a few Ligers, release them into the wild and let them adapt.

I'm pretty sure ligers cannot breed. Mules are also sterile.

I know I was just talking about animals that aren't formed naturally in the wild, because I think Tigers and Lions usually don't live in the same areas, and probably are hostile towards each other.

Why would you just out of nowhere release a new species into the wild? Those ligers are probably fast for thier size as well...they probably don't equal to lions or tigers in terms of speed, but they make up for it in sheer strength.

I'm surprised they got a lion and a tiger to crossbreed in the first place.

lol, i remeber when i first saw napolean dynomite i thought it was a joke, then my bio taecher last year told us they were true, and yea they are sterile

I did this in wildlife last year. You also have horses and zebras making zorses, horses and donkeys making mules, cows buffalo making beefalo, and other hybrids. Really interesting, but they can't reproduce.

Deb: What are you drawing?
Napoleon Dynamite: A liger.
Deb: What's a liger?
Napoleon Dynamite: It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic.

Are you sure they actually got a tiger and a lion to crossbreed? My guess is that it was done in some lab through artificial fertilization.

Well, when I wikipedia'd it, they said Lions and Tigers have crossbred in the wild as well.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">
Reports have been made of tigresses mating with lions in the wild and producing offspring known as ligers.

I took Biology last year, and we had to learn about hybrids briefly but it was quite cool knowing that these things existed in the first place. I think the Zebra is the one animal that has the most hybrids, as they've mixed it with donkeys and horses, producecing like 4 different subspecies.

I actually thought they forced them to mate or somehting under captivity , but I think your conclusion would be more logical. The crossbreeding in the wild is very rare I believe so it would make sense to just artifically fertilize.

I can't give a scientific explanation but I know that crossbreeds (i.e. Ligers, mules, etc.) can't breed. Don't know why but I know it is a trait of crossbreeds.

Yeah I was looking it up, the males are sterile, but the female species can bred. In the case of Liger females they can breed with Lions or Tigers.

Man they are huge. I have never seen one before.. They are cool

The spikes on the back are a nice touch lol.

Yea I think you are right about that. I think I read that Ligers are kind of slow and lazy, although powerful of course.

I opened this thinking, "people are still quoting Napolean Dynamite?" But damn that thing is weird. Thank god it cant reproduce.

In the wild? As far as I know, lions only exist in Africa, and tigers only in Asia, so for them to meet in the wild, let alone breed, seems highly unlikely, to say the least...

Hmm, according to the wiki page, the female ligons are not sterile. I wonder what the child would look like if one were to let it reproduce with a panther...?

The females can reproduce with Lion or Tiger. The male Liger can't donate.

Oh, god no, I hated that movie with a bitter passion.

is it bad? I haven't seen it yet. Some people seem to love it. I have a feeling I'll enjoy it lol.

It's ok but WAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY overrated.

I didn't like it either. I found one thing funny in it and that was when he went to ride his bike over the jump and went through it.

Definately over-rated.
