OT Lil Nas X - Old Town Road (Official Movie) ft. Billy Ray Cyrus

I can't believe we're allowing white appropriation of rap music.

It's shit like this is how we ended up with Taco Bell.

This makes zero sense. That's exactly why it's called rap. If you are rapping with a few of your boys, you're sitting around having a conversation (speaking, talking, not singing).

This could also be Rap. Rap is what you DO.

Rap has more than just words to it. It has music. Just because he's speaking the first part of the story doesn't make the song sound like rap. There is a ton of rock music that they do something similar.

Completely wrong.

It's not about the musical composition at all. It's about what you DO with it.

There are many MANY rap songs that don't incorporate the type of music you'd think you'd hear with mainstream rap song.

It's what you do.

Then I've been rapping my whole life.

Then this is rap too.

They're rockin' on that song and you know it.

Bottom line is that Lil' Nas X's song has NO rapping on it. Trap is not rap.
Never said it was. Said that Juice Wrld was pop if anything and that the original song ain't country. It is apparently called trap as you said.
It is apparently a political thing? I was reading about it on Wikipedia and it seems there is a controversy over it being on the country music charts. As I was reading there was a mention of a rapper I'd never heard of doing an album that

.......by black artists making cross-genre music, noting that rapper Juice Wrld's Death Race for Love (2019) would "probably be the most commercially successful rock album of 2019", but would never appear on rock charts or playlists,.....

I downloaded it and it isn't rock by any stretch. It is synthetic garbage so I guess it could be pop music these days.

The original song in this thread ain't country either.

What's hilarious is that we're sitting here debating something I don't believe in anyway, music genres.

I love the song and am gonna call it country JUST because it makes the CMA crowd mad.

I'm sorry some of y'all have an achy breaky heart over this, but I'm just hoping the popularity of this song leads to a Blazing Saddles remake. They should call it Blazin' Saddles though, and it should be a mostly black cast with a couple of white dudes to play the bad guys, and Charlie Pride should do a cameo.

Honestly, i don't get why the CMA crowd would be mad.

These have been released in the past 5 years.

If you watch the country music award shows they constantly have people from all sorts of genres on performing with country stars.

Billboard is dumb for taking it off the country charts. It belongs there.

Can't believe I forgot about Dirt Road Anthem. That's a great song.

Never heard it before. That's a cool song except for whats his name rapping. That was brutal. Ludacris was awesome as always to my ears.

I am going to say that by the norms and standards of country music - this is not country.

Let me explain.

I do believe that most country music is boring. This song is fantastic. The only logical conclusion is that this song isn't country.

(There are good country songs, but honestly, only very few imho).

I honestly do not care one bit what people classify it as - but hats off to the country guy that supported it and great on the artist - because this is a great song.
The obvious marriage between country and rap would undoubtedly just have to be called Crap!....(not a bad starting lyric if you ask me!)
