Lillard is interviewed on True Hoop.

Damian Lillard says Aldridge should start shooting more three pointers...

[video=youtube;fgNozuO7H_E]

Damian Lillard believes LaMarcus Aldridge should start shooting more three-pointers, and he was asked in rapid-fire questions whether Aldridge actually will next season.

"Yeah, I do," Lillard said.

Aldridge attempted 14 three-pointers last season and 101 in his seven seasons.

LMA should take more 3's? He needs to rethink that one.

I have wanted him to for a couple of seasons. Alridge takes as many long jumpers as any player in the NBA. He needs to take one step back and make those 3 point attempts.

Of course, I still want him to go into to the paint more. Those are not mutually exclusive.

Nobody said "more." Just sayin'.

Seems to me it would be closer to 2-3 steps back. I just don't want to give him any excuse for being that far away from the basket. We have enough 3 point shooters to spread the floor. But since he only took about 13 or 14 last year, I guess he could take a little more. (like 20-25)

No more 20 footers.

Can we all agree those shots are stupid?

Maybe Robin Lopez should shoot threes also. We already have Meyers Leonard working on his three point shot.

I say 40 wins. Last season I think I was 1 win off if that means anything.

I think this team has been built to be a solid group. Nothing great and not terrible. Bottom line, we need someone else to step up and join Lillard and LA. Nico has the talent, but I question his desire.

Yes I can agree. 12'-15' is a nice mid range jumper for LMA, even out 18'.

But I agree 20 feet makes little sense unless the clock is running down. Did he take that many?

Didn't seem like he took a ton of 20' but he took a ton more 18' then we should have let him. Most were open and uncontested off the pick and pop but he needs to very it up a little bit, not always going for the jumper.

LaMarcus isn't even in the top 20 in FG% from 16 to 23 feet. We need to get him away from those shots, even the open 18 footers.

Nice strawman. LA has hit game tying, clutch 3 pointers. No one in this forum is advocating for Lopez and Leonard to shoot 3s.

I like LA's offensive game as it is. Keep him around the elbow with the ability to drive to the bucket and he's devastating. Putting him out at the perimeter keeps him from crashing the boards (and he's not a great rebounder to begin with).

It seems the only person advocating Leonard to shoot 3s is Leonard. If I were Stotts, I would make him run until he dropped if he tried heaving one of those during a game. Only Sabonis could get away with it, not someone who hasn't even gained proficiency at the five. He shoots from the key and that's it.

And maybe the baseline once in a while.

Why would everyone agree to something so dumb? At the end of the 24 second clock, an open 20 foot J from any of the Blazer's better jump shooters (including Aldridge) is a good shot. Of course thats not the shot the offense is looking for during the first 20 seconds of the clock, but during those last few ticks it comes down to who can create the space to get a reasonable shot off. Both Nic and Wesley are subpar at this, so the responsibility for taking those lower percentage shots falls mainly to Lillard and LA

When the clock is winding down I would think LA would be closer to the basket and if anything would kick it out for a long shot.

If we haven't gotten a shot off in 20 seconds, the play has broken down and things are scrambled. LMA may have tride a pick and pop and been doubled; Lillard may have been triple-teamed with nowhere to go... the passes in and out have given us nothing. I don't doubt that, after 20 seconds, players are shoved out of the paint a lot more than in the 12-16 second range when the play is working.
