Lillard the best PG in the game RIGHT NOW?

With the best PG and the best PF and another player Hickson, at 20 PER, and another at $10M per year, we should have won about 23 in a row by now.

I'm not sure I'd take another PG in the league on my team.

I'd take Kyrie over Lillard all things considered.

His injury history is starting to scare me. Put him on the Blazers and I would just be waiting for the ACL tear everytime he made a cut or jumped.

He's definitely top ten. He's certainly better than I thought he would be. I think the minutes Maynor has been able to take from Lillard helped him over the rookie wall.

Question:

Why can't I look up JUST point guards on NBA.com or Basketball-reference.com?

i would expect the best PG in the league to be a little better than 23rd in PG PER

And out of those 22 other point guards, who would you want more than Lillard?

In my mind it goes like this (I'm probably forgetting someone):

Tier 1
CP3
Rose (when healthy)
Westbrook

Tier 2
R. Rondo
T. Parker
D. Williams
K. Irving (when healthy)

Tier 3
S. Curry
D. Lillard
J. Holliday
J. Wall

Tier 4
T. Lawson
K. Lowry
M. Conley
K. Walker
I. Thomas

quickly, I'd say you probably Parker too low and DeronisDeron too high. Wall's a bit closer to Tier 2 than Lillard, but they're both good. If Wall ever decides to learn how to shoot, he could be insane.

I think as you get to tier 3 and tier 4, it becomes harder to rank them. Easier to just group them.

Lillard is as good as any PG in the league offensively right now. When his defense comes around he will be ridiculous.

I also think he assists will go up if we add some more weapons this summer.

More weapons would be great. Yeah I can only imagine how much better Lillard would be if we had always had another guy on the court that was hot. If the defense couldn't focus and run doubles at him it would open up his game quite a bit more.

I am also really shocked at how much his game has evolved this year. In the beginning of the season I thought he was just going to be an outside shooter and I was happy with that. He has proven be so much more than that I'm so happy I was wrong

His ability to drive has far exceeded my expectations this year. I actually think he's as good as Roy was, which is something I did not anticipate. He could be even better than Roy was in his prime, which is a scary prospect. He's a better outside shooter than Roy was, and his ability to drive is quickly becoming just as good as Roy. Scary indeed.

Work on his lob and he already has three very competent players to finish at the rim.

Outside of Hickson it feels like we haven't used the lob as much this year as in years past. I'm not if there are stats to support that. I think a product of that is having more of a scoring threat at PG finally.

Zags actually has a great point. Factoring age and injuries; what other pgs would you rather have than Lillard?

He might only have two next year.

Probably right, but still I think that needs to be something he really works on. Once he drives; the entire defense collapses on him. Setting up a lob would be a nightmare for defenses.

Well between the homer in me and factoring in Lillard's clutchness and ability to adapt I would take Lillard.

Most of the guys that I would probably take are either coming off a major injury or can't seem to stay healthy.

Irving
Rose
Rondo (maybe)

I look at Curry, Wall, and Holliday as lateral moves, and Lillard could be better than all three. CP3 isn't someone I would want because he's already playing on one knee without a meniscus and we don't need another Roy scenario. He's an amazing player, but he wouldn't make sense for us.

Agreed but if you combine that with the danger of the tear drop and he becomes essentially unguardable

Lillard is like a rich man's Mike Bibby. Ideally he'll be a better Chauncey Billups (which is saying A LOT: Chauncey was finals MVP). But Kyrie Irving is younger and better, although possibly the Greg Oden of PGs.

Work on both. It's not like he has to be stellar at the lob. He just needs to look for it more. Maybe stotts develops this next season?
